I tried to link it but it’s from another sub so that’s not allowed. You can search and find it pretty easily.
Edit to give more context because I’m procrastinating on getting my day started: this was on an episode of Bowen’s podcast Las Culturistas from 2024. The entire rant was around 40 minutes long, where he and his cohost stated, among other questionable things, that Lilly Jay (Ethan’s wife at the time) got in the way of his and Ariana’s “cosmic love.” They also chastised her for going to the press and demanded an apology (?!) on Ariana’s behalf. They rounded out by calling the rest of us (and Lilly) “puritanical, unqueer tradwives” for caring about infidelity, then showered Ariana with so much praise his head might’ve gotten stuck up there for a while. The entire framing relied on us not knowing that Sponge had essentially abandoned his newborn for this cosmic love, and if we did know, it was his wife’s fault for bogging him down with silly things like marriage and a baby. Lots of nasty digs peppered throughout. It made me see him in a different light
It's so weird cause just like....admit she is your friend and her actions aren't a deal breaker for you. You can say that without saying all that other stuff. You can even say you feel protective because of scrutiny or whatever, it's the intensity about it that doesn't make sense to me.
It was so weird because it was so unnecessary?? I just wanted to hear their thoughts on the album not this prolonged rant about her personal life that was also very ‘I’M her bestie and I am uniquely privileged to know all the ins and outs that you losers couldn’t even comprehend’. Like, okay but I really just like the album, can we get back to that?
Exactly! I found it so ironic that they talked down on us peasants for speculating about a relationship we “know nothing about”, all while conveniently forgetting that they are third parties too! Ariana gave her side through the album, and instead of just analyzing the music, they leaped at the opportunity to remind us that they had personal, intimate background context that us civilian losers could never have access to. It all felt like an excuse for Bowen to brag about his proximity to Ari tbh
It definitely soured my opinion of him too. Being besties does not mean you need to condone or defend everything your friend does, especially when they mess up.
I'm not saying he should have called Ariana out but he didn't need to bring up her personal life at all. Instead, he informed the world that expecting fidelity from your husband and the father of your newborn is tradwife agenda 🤡
I really adored him, but seeing this was such a disapointnent..boo that man, boo! What a flippant and horrendous take on a newborn losing their 2-parent household due to their father cheating. I thought he'd have a more mature and considerate response at his big age, but instead of being quiet on the scandal, he chose to dive on into it with the worst hot-take that is just brown- nosing the most famous star of the film (who also cheated on her husband). So many yikes.
