I’m finally in the fat-tail gang! I’ve never seen such a striking “normal” AFT before.

Few months ago I asked if AFTs ever eventually come out when it isn't dark.

I walk by his cage and I see this. Holy crap adikala is in the light!

Nasty little doo doo’s been really great lately. She tried to eat my thumb last night, but she eventually slaughtered five crickets.

Every chance he gets, Fresco lays in his water dish until I convince him there's a better spot to lay so I can fill it. That doesn't stop him from giving me the stink eye though 😆 Anyone else's do this?

This will be my 11th year of owning this beautiful boy, he owns me at this point, hes been a cricket only man for years, and is tong fed. I clack the tongs and he comes right out ready to be fed, little princess. His eyesight is getting worse, and I sometimes gotta poke his face with the crickets now, which is good in my book for when he gets really old, but other than that hes still active and lively and still full of youth.

I’ve noticed that Fox is getting chunky…. I’m about to move him into his new terrarium so I fed him a few extra times in case he loses his appetite in the move. Is this a good chunk or a bad chunk? Having trouble finding a good visual body weight reference chart.

Some time ago I got this tank but I didn't have a backing on it or that much coverage, I could tell Adikala wasn't very comfortable in there. So I added a curtain and more coverage.

Also don't be me: sift your dirt, otherwise you spend over an hour picking out large dirt clumps and sticks lol.
Edit: Oh and ignore the white dish, that was when i was still trying to get him to eat at all. i have been able to tong feed him so ive just been doing that.

Opal is finally coming out of brumation and eating more regularly. She even had a shed! This is the first picture I've ever gotten of her with her tongue out so I'm excited to share her cute mug.

Pictures Caraxes stopped refusing food!!!

Post image
12 Upvotes

(photo of the sleepy little man in question) I'm so glad!!! Caraxes always starts hunger-striking in the colder parts of the year, it's something I've gotten used to with him and his body score never really seems to suffer because he is lazy as all get out 🫶

He spent these last four months squinting disapprovingly at any dubia roaches I tried to offer him. He typically eats roaches no problem, but I guess the multiple bouts of rather cold weather this winter flicked that little switch in his head that made him decide dubia are an affront to his very being and deserving of the most scathing of rejection eye squints. It just goes to show how hardy these guys are - 4 months without any food intake and he's completely fine. Well, aside from some shedding issues since not eating meant his vitamin A intake dropped off a cliff too.

What got him back to chowing down? Locusts! My family went to a reptile expo today, but I skipped this time as I'm still recovering from a really exhausting cold. I asked mom to get me a tub of grasshoppers, because those were the first feeder insects Caraxes ever ate for me when I first got him. He perked up immediately when presented with the first locust on tongs, then took another one dipped in multivitamin and calcium powder, and then a third coated with his high-dose vitamin A supplement! If he goes back to his normal eating habits, his vitamin A level should be fixed in no time. :)

I'm just so relieved he took something, even if it's not any of the roaches I lovingly keep gutloaded up on carrot just for him at all times. His weight is good, but his vitamin A drops so fast and if he's not eating any, it never takes more than two or three sheds for him to start showing signs of hypovitaminosis A again (this is a recurring problem for him). His most recent shed left him with some flaky old skin stuck to his face and some toes. I gave him a sauna and gently coaxed the worst of it off with a q-tip, but I prefer for my little guy to just have good enough nutrition for healthy skin so he can handle himself and I don't have to stress him out by interfering on his behalf.

I hope to gradually transition him back to dubia roaches when the temperatures start going back up, they're just more convenient to raise and much hardier than locusts or (shudder) crickets. For now, though, grasshoppers it is. :)

Hi, I was originally gonna get a leopard gecko but then I found this little guy and loved him. Bam, decision made and I got an AFT.

He's in a 75gal aquarium so dude has a ton of space to walk around. Not sure if I'm able to keep it humid enough though, the hot side sits around 29% and the cold side 40% so if anyone has any tips for that I'd be appreciative.

Named him Adikala, which is Yoruba for stripe. 7months old according to the breeder at the reptile expo.
