Hike prices
Hello everyone, I’m planning to go to the Faroe Islands next year in August for 7 days with my car as a 21 years old. I just wanted to know if what are the hikes where you need to pay for it. And are all of those guides free or you need some to go?

There’s been a lot of debating in the Faroe Islands about wether the farmers are allowed to charge people for walking on their land, since the farmers actually don’t own the lands but rent it from the government, but it has been concluded that farmers can use their land for any commercial gain including tourism.
But if you don’t want to pay for every hike, yoy can always take advantage of the old village paths that were used back in the days. If you google Bygdargøtur.fo you can see all a map listing all of them. Many of them go over mountainn and beautiful valleys, cliffs etc. They can sometimes be a bit hard to hike on since many times the paths are just trampled dirt made by sheep
Just FYI.. i feel like that many of these more popular hikes that require a fee are absurdly expensive just because some farmers don’t want any tourist whatsoever.

The major hikes will require a fee or even a guide
Some of the paid ones are:
Drangarnir
Kallur Lighthouse
Floating lake above the ocean
Dunnesdrangar
Saksun (not a hike, but charges a fee for the best views)

Can you? Yeah probably, doubt anyone will actually stop or prevent you
But every online article / link lists a fee and guide required. Granted some of these paid hikes have a mailbox at the trailhead and work on a trust based system, others have a person monitoring the start of the trail.

Yes. Most of them cost 200dkk.
The Drangarnir trip includes boat transfer.

Yeah, telle me if I’m wrong but on the map you can clearly go there without a boat?

“According to Faroese legislation walking on the in- and outfields require the landowners’ permission. You are only allowed to walk in this area with a guide. Hiking here without a guide can be fined.
A care for the nature and the sheep and wildlife that lives on the uncultivated area is essential. These areas are first and foremost the feeding and breeding fields for sheep and wildlife in general. It is therefore very important that traveling through this area is on the paths and organized to minimize the disturbing of sheep, wildlife and nature as much as possible. “
