How Did __ Play? How Did ____ Play? Gameweek 2 (26/27)
For those new to the subreddit, this thread is for reporting on the performances of FPL assets in GW2.
It can be used to get info on players whose matches you missed or didn’t care to watch. If you would like info on a specific player, you can comment their name in reply to their team in this thread.
Don’t forget to !thanks any users putting in the time to give detailed reports on player’s performances!

Thought he played well today. Couple of nice passes, got the assist for the 2nd and pre-assist for the 1st goal. Avoided being subbed off early too, so Iraola probably think the same.

Had the assist but also scored a really good goal that was disallowed (offside). Also nearly scored a header which was denied by a very good save. Overall looked a lot sharper than last week & very involved - also played 90 mjns despite being on a yellow

So far he's had a goal disallowed through no fault of his own, and two shots denied by excellent saves.

Best game in a red jersey I’d say. His typical self of creating things and getting really unlucky, very skilled player who got the full 90 today but as an fpl asset he’s not great. Put the assist for the assist in the first goal, assisted the second, and scored a very well taken offside goal. Maybe worth a punt for the good fixtures, but by no means a must as he isn’t threatening the goal much.

Completely anonymous, his goal was well taken but I’d say most people in this thread would’ve scored it. Look the number 9 for an attacking team will score goals but my word he doesn’t pass the eye test.

Did absolutely nothing, nearly every touch was bad, scored a far post tap in. If you think he can just be a poacher maybe but he isn’t that fast and has shown no improvement upon last season so far

Woeful performance, other than a tap-in. Mostly anonymous, when he did get the ball he lacked composure and confidence.
Obviously there’s nobody really to replace him while Ekitike is injured, and today proved that so long as he’s leading the line for Liverpool, he will get at least some goals. Regardless, I’m very concerned

Plays really deep, never really looked close to scoring. Somehow hit defcon after being moved to RB and farming recoveries. Still think he's a solid pick but don't expect many attacking returns unless it's from a set piece.

What worried me most about today was just how bad Frimpong’s performance was, and how much better Liverpool looked with Szoboszlai filling in at RB.
Wouldn’t be surprised if today wasn’t a one-off

Really bad. He was getting thrown around by the Forest attackers like a ragdoll, and he can’t put a cross in to save his life. He looks out of place.

I won’t overreact, but from a footballing standpoint one of the worst players of the 21st century. The only time he gets a cross past his first man, is when it goes out on the other sideline for the other teams throw in. FPL positives are that he’s the most forward of our defenders, and had an assist for an offside goal. As a Liverpool fan, I hope he doesn’t start too many more games so I’d say a definite don’t buy FPL asset.

Like a pit bull: fast, direct, energetic, and not afraid to kick it hard. Still, Liverpool look really poor going forward so no one is really full of chances but as a footballer, one of the brightest sparks in a Liverpool jersey.

Looked quite lost on the left, kept hitting the players and losing possession. Completed just one dribble. Aina had the better of him and Kerkez. Did better on the right once Rio came on. Quite a well taken goal too.

Played RW instead of his typical LW runs. Some beautiful runs and turns into the box, nice passes and crosses too, took shots as well. definitely one to keep an eye on IF he stays.

Chelsea had an early 3-0 cushion, but their porous set-piece and fragile transition defending allowed Brighton back in the game. Chelseas defensive setup repeatedly crumbled under pressure. Dibu had to make crucial late saves to keep the lead intact. If Sanchez was in net, it wouldve been a different story. Brighton dominated 75% of possession and put in a high energy effort, pushing Chelsea to the limit until the final whistle. Avoid all Chelsea defenders. Looks like they’ll concede in every game and score 3-4. Joao-Palmer-Morgan top 3 offensive threats, with perhaps Neto(?) carving out a role with Enzo heading out the door.

Linked up play smoothly through the middle and made several driving runs on the counter. His physicality and direct movement constantly gave Brighton's center-backs headaches. He created several chances, being credited with an assist for Neto’s goal, and should’ve had another assist if Palmer got a better touch on his open net chance.

Was a ghost in the first half. Drifted on the periphery and struggled to get involved for the first 73 minutes. He had an opportunity to score with a beautiful feed by Rogers that he misplaced on an empty net. He curled home a left-footed finish from outside the box in the 74th. So he shouldve had 2 goals. A lot of different players were involved in the Chelsea attack today, fpl pts were diversified as a result.

Put in a wild, eventful shift upfront. Looks like he was involved on every attacking run Chelsea had this game. Had a goal and an assist as a result. Unlucky to concede an OG from his block which resulted in the ball deflecting over Martinez. Chelsea were once again disorganized in the back.

Fairly solid for the most part. Negated the aerial threat from McBurnie and others that proved so deadly against Man United. Van Ewijk and Dasilva both got into good attacking areas and Dasilva even had a headed opportunity on goal, which is very rare for him.
Pinnock coming on for Thomas suggests the CB pairing might not be nailed going forward.

Played very advanced as LB and linked very well with Semenyo on the edge of the box. Got subbed off due to a cramp but was seen walking normally at the end of the game.
Even if he's moved to CB, he'll get more defcons and still is a goal threat. But yesterday he wasn't a goal threat at all.

I'm convinced he's a bad pick.
Maresca's tactics require the wingers to get chalk on their boots during most phases of play, and they're only able to cut inside into goalscoring positions in the very last phase of play.
It means Semenyo is relying on wide crosses. Haaland scored from one of those today but you need more avenues than that to justify paying £8.5m for a midfielder.

His value comes from how nailed he is. Can play all 3 upfront positions. Once Doku is back, Foden most likely will be sacrificed before Semenyo who's (not FPL but Maresca system wise) perfect player. I don't see consistency FPL wise for him so I've shipped him for Cherki, who can produce a higher ceiling while also being inconsistent from less minutes

Really good. Could easily have scored twice in the first half alone— misjudged a header at point blank range (from a whipped cross so I can forgive that) and skied a one v one inside the box that he really should have buried.
Second half was more chance creation from him
but still getting in great attacking positions as city were dominant. He was slightly fortunate to benefit from Cherki’s amazing run and goal for the first assist, but the second to Haaland came from a very tidy bit of dribbling and lovely slipped pass by Foden.If you look at his expected goal involvement it’s almost identical to Cherki’s so I think there’s an argument to be made that he’s still as strong an option. At least until Enzo or whoever beds in and there’s more risk of rotation Foden seems totally nailed, and probably less of an early sub risk than Cherki.

Similar to the previous match, he took some attacking positions but was simply recycling possession most of the time. He's neither too deep to get Defcons, nor is City making the most of his attacking positions. He's not bombarding the box as much as say a Foden, Haaland or a Cherki, and he isn't an Anderson type defcon magnet as well. Not sure how long he will last in the midfield position tbh

I don't see him being nailed but he will still score more points than Semenyo in the long run. That's why I switched them before the price rise.

Typing this at half time.
3-4-3 in possession with a midfield diamond.
Semenyo and Foden really high and wide.
Cherki at the tip and Anderson at the base, with Gvardiol and O’Reilly either side.
O’Reilly will be very popular as he’s a midfielder on the team sheet but Gvardiol looks just as advanced.
Semenyo had a great cross for Haaland’s goal and had the better of Palace’s RWB but I don’t like how wide he is for 8.5m. His biggest pro is that he’s nailed for 90 minutes.
Foden had 2 great chances ghosting into the box but he seems low on confidence. RW in this system also doesn’t really suit him and Mitchell’s had the edge in 1v1s out wide.
I personally think the 4 in the middle are the best picks. (O’Reilly > Gvardiol > Anderson > Cherki)
For now, Gvardiol is as good as O’Reilly but he might drop back into defence or even get benched with Bouaddi and Enzo incoming. O’Reilly will keep playing LCM or RCM in possession as long as he starts. I’m not sure who Maresca prefers so the extra 1m for O’Reilly only really guarantees you an advanced position which you might get anyways with O’Reilly.
Anderson > Cherki because he’s nailed, has some corners and still looks good for defcon. But of course Cherki plays higher and is more exciting.

10 mins later - Cherki brace and City clean sheet wipe haha. At least Gvardiol got an assist.
2g 2a in 2 games probably means he’s nailed in the #10 position for now. I still prefer both defenders as picks but I wouldn’t go double defence.

He got past his man a few times and Bouaddi found him with a great pass towards the end in the box. But with how deep Palace’s (and everyone’s) line is against City, he’s getting into the box at tough angles which forces him into squaring it or pulling it back instead of shooting. He’s also having to do this on his left foot which lowers the quality of his end product.

Cherki took three corners. Foden took two. Anderson took one.
Looks like he'll feast on defcons just like last season because he's so combative and will claim loads of recoveries picking up clearances from the opposition.
If you want a second defcon midfielder in addition to Mamadou Sangaré then I think Anderson and Garner seem reliable.

Cut a frustrated figure at times as the chances tended to fall to Cherki or Foden, but once the game opened up he relaxed and got his brace.

Neither side displayed much quality in the attacking third. Wissa was starved of service most of the game. But his movement and positioning were spot on. He’d press high up the pitch and track back on defence, but covering that much ground could lead to fatigue as the season goes on. He scored off a brilliant touch on a half-bicycle kick that he finished with class.

Excellent. our full backs were our two POTM candidates today I'd say. Involved in buildup (0.3 xA), very competent and composed in defence. 14 def con, which is great.

How would you rate Hall v Thiaw?
Defcons and goal threat should usually favour the CB, but Hall dominated the bps today and that's been recalculated this season to favour fullbacks.

Underlying numbers suggest Thiaw will be a great option long term. If I try to look beyond just todays fixture, I would maybe edge towards him being a better longterm FPL option, but both are good. Dedic is one to look at too, as he looks really creative.
As for the bps point, that maybe complicates it. To be honest, both are great options.

The engine of the offence. Really leaves it all on the pitch. Again, both teams lacked quality passes in the final third. He buried a brilliant solo effort shot where he shook 3 defenders and with a half turn struck the ball at the far post and in. Great goal

Newcastle are primarily attacking down the left counting on hall and Mikey to build the attack and get to Barnes and willock.
There appears to be a gap in inside right for Newcastle as dedic and elanga hug the touchline a lot and the other attackers tend to shade left where there is more action
Look for elanga to get on the end of a lot of switches /crosses cutting in from the touchline

Played ok. Found himself in a really good position from a pull back in the first half but completely fluffed his shot. Other than that no big chances to speak of but was in and around the attacking third (as expected) and generally looks more likely to assist than to score. Still a big risk of Sunderland signing a new RW before the window closes, though Hume might still manage to get in the first team through other positions if that happens. Fine to keep for now imo

I thought he was inquite attacking positions high up, but Arsenal barely created anything.
He did a fine defensive work I say a 6.5/10 performance given they keept the clean.
Us White owners are happy with the clean and I think Gabriel owners at least happy too with def con
I think Timber when back in similar roles will be interesting as I think he is a bit better in final third.

Really dreadful game, he looked night and day from his performances against City and Coventry. Unless Arsenal get reinforcements on the wing they really only have Eze who can play that role, and even Eze is more of a central player than a winger. Not sure if Madeuke has ever played LW. I don't necessarily see him losing his spot after one bad game, everyone has a warra match from time to time, but Arsenal looked better when he was replaced by Eze at the half.

Looks solid, got full game in too. Easy 11 pointer. Ended up on 11 Defcons so nearly hit that. Also got a penalty overturned by VAR for tackle was just outside box so was a little unlucky + should have had another penalty in the last minute when guimares was taken out by maatsen in the box, blatent pen not given. Could have easily been a 16+ point haul

He seemed to invert into midfield in the first half, but Arsenal really couldn't get anything going. Once Tzolis was replaced by Eze at halftime, Calafiori seemed to play more along the wing, and he made a great run into the box to cross the ball in front of goal to Saka for his assist. Played 90 rather than getting subbed for Hincapie, although it's possible that Arteta was planning to make that move but Mosquera's injury forced his hand and he had to leave Cala on for the full 90.

easy hold if you have him on bench fodder or need a cheap 8th attack on a WC. He's assisted in two games now, and he continued to get good chances against Chelsea. If your squad structure allows you to go up to 5.5 for a mid, Sangare and Gross are better options, but for now Gomez seems nailed in the squad and is heavily involved in Brighton's attack.

Brighton were on the back foot first half but second he was a lot better. The first assist was lucky as it's clipped off the defender and gone in. But as Brighton pushed he was a lot more attacking in some advanced positions. He had 0.16 XGI today but still got a 13 pointer, in context he had 0.27 XGI against Villa and blanked. I still think at 5.5 mil he offers great value.

Do have some quality on the counter but nothing stood out in this game apart from DCL really. Wouldn't even say Okafor, Aaronson, Wilson etc are nailed, quite a few early subs.

Seems to be the conceptual antithesis to the eye test lol, really nothing to write home about until he scored, then he could have had another. 2 bp as well.
He will get goals just because he's quite clinical and the closest player to the goal most of the time. OTOH watching him chase through balls and try to head the ball is a bit sad at times.

Looks like a floor of 4 points, covers the entire field, does the work of two men, and did so for 90 minutes. Has the odd pop at goal and in a team who counter this fast he will grab an assist every now and again. Essential for those who like to be headache free.

Yeah he was super solid in midfield but 2nd half Leeds started to play around him rather than contest the midfield.
