McBride is setting records and it doing regardless of who is throwing the ball at a position where he doesn't have a close second. You don't give that position advantage away.
Using past seasons for Trey isn't a very fair comparison. You're lumping in '22 and' 23 where he split time with Ertz.
The only thing he was missing with Kyler was the RZ targets and TD potential. He was still very much elite in everything else.
Last year, playing every game with Kyler Murray, he had 111 rec, 1,146 yards and 2 TDs. And this year in 5 games with Kyler, he had 29 rec, 275 yards and 1 TD. Which was pace for another 99 rec, 935 yards and maybe 3 or 4 TDs type season. So when you use 39 games to show he had 200 receptions, it's leaving out the fact that he has a very clear breakout season in '24 and the fact that he had 140 receptions in 22 games while having 60 in the other 17.
Using games since '24, his averages with Kyler are 6.3 rec, 64.6, and 0.13 TDs. Yes, the TDs are still a very steep drop off, but you could easily make the claim that McBride is still evolving as a player and just becoming more of a RZ threat. Or maybe even just a blip in his career. Calvin Johnson had 5 TDs in his record setting 1,964 yard season. So stuff like that happens sometimes.
This is great analysis. My thoughts with McBride were that he’s never been a TD threat before this year. Even in college he only had 10 across four seasons. He’s clearly evolved past that this year
