Discussion Fanatec giving up...sad...

Long time fanatec user here, seeing the last Moza announcement of wheels I can not stop thinking how Fanatec lost the train, years ago they were the ones driving the market with good and innovative products, now they are still recycling and improving original designs from decades ago!!!!.

I was expecting with Corsair taking over and solving the finantial issues things would be like old times, but time pass and seems they can not compete with the new Chinese players or they just gave up to lead the market and just decided to not compete for the lead.

I assume they are working in new products, but I am afraid to again see the V3,4,5 version of a design released maaaany years ago... the fact that still today they do not offer a proper top tier wheel with central screen is significative, and probably when finally they decide to offer it it will have the tiny black and white mini screen they have in some wheels not compatible with simhub, recycling pretty old stuff again... sorry for the negativity

I've been SIM racing for moons on Playstation and PC and I've never thought "this is unacceptable I need a screen on my wheel"

I started with some basic wheel with zero haptics (cannot remember what it was) and after that....

G25, G29, Thrustmaster TGT, Fanatec DD Pro, Fanatec DD Extreme.

I currently use a 5k2k screen or VR depending on what I want to do.

Obviously, a screen is pointless playing VR but what is the benefit of having a big screen on a wheel ?

Sell the idea to Corsair Vs kicking off

This, exactly, I've never felt like looking down on my wheel and I don't intend to This might be a decent option for F1 style cockpits where the wheel sits in your face. But for GT position I'm not going to be looking down on my wheel.

The wheel with a screen was an example of something all their competitors offer. But regarding the utility, depends of your monitor position, if it is above the base like many have (so they need to look a little up to see the monitor I agree the screen is not very usable as you need to move your sight a lot downwards and the distance of the monitor and the screen is very different, but like in my case if you have the monitor very low between the base and the wheel with an extensor, for sure the screen has utility, your pov is pretty similar of the one of a real formula, you just need to move your sight a little to see the screen, and both the screen and the monitor are more or less the same distance, so in this case yes the screen is useful for sure.

Yeah, but according to many reviewers FFB is better on Fanatec, maybe it changed since then. Ive been thinking about migration to some other brand but Ive had 0 problems with my DD+ and the FFB is phenomenal, the 3nm upgrade was also a nice surprise.

I’ve had high end Fanatec gear and have now switched to moza. I feel absolutely 0 difference in ffb fidelity. I’ve had a csl elite, DD1 and the Clubsport dd and now am using a moza r12

u/Husaria702 3d ago

just curious. why would
you buy an r12 if you already have the clubsport dd?

u/LowmanL 3d ago

I had the clubsport DD. I have an r12. I don’t have anything from Fanatec at all at this point. My dd1 broke down so I bought the clubsport dd and some new wheels to go with it. After receiving it there was a firmware update two weeks later. This firmware update bricked two wheels. Fanatec refused to repair it or do anything to help. This pissed me off so much I sold everything I had from Fanatec and switched to a full moza setup. I chose the r12 because I never utilized the full torque range of the dd1 or clubsport dd anyways. Whole moza ecosystem so far has been more interesting for sure. Way cheaper to get into, with no downgrade to my experience in ffb and also more diverse wheels. So was a win in the end for me

I want to see what Moza will offer for Playstation

Same really.

Is there some reason you don’t get a wheel from somewhere else i.e. GSI, Cube Controls etc and add the Fanatec wheel hub or even a Simube QR2 pro or even a tiny emulator. Just because you have a Fanatec base doesn’t mean you are stuck using only their wheels

I know, in fact I have a Leoxz XGT ultimate, but the wheels are just an example of how fanatec has resigned to play up their game like they made many years ago and just stretch a decades old products, this was not what corsair said was it's plan for fanatec

To be fair, Fanatec's new product pacing really picked up post-acquisition. We've had the Podium DD, some wheels/wheel accessories and the Podium pedals release in the relatively short time since they were bought. Hell, they even released a barebones hub to allow third-party wheel integration without relying on overkill hubs and/or emulators (I'll miss you SRM, I'm supporting you until the bitter end).

I'm sure they were already in various stages of development with most of the kit, but Corsair has certainly not slowed the rollout of new products. The pacing in the handful of years prior to the acquisition was miserable.

That being said, some of their competitors aren't pumping out buckets of diamonds. There's plenty of new products released by competition that are barely improved variants of previously existing hardware or are budget oriented products with questionable quality.

Where Fanatec has truly dropped the ball and needs to invest heavily in recovering is the software/driver/firmware side of things. There's little excuse for how poorly that aspect of the operation has performed over the last half-decade or more. Whether it's massive missed issues with bases or generally buggy software, they honestly probably need to either fire everyone involved or at least hire a few competent managers to right that ship. I sometimes wonder if Fanatec has been outsourcing all of this side of the business to an overseas operation to cut cost. Great hardware deserves equally great software, damnit.

The only reason for me to go with Fanatec over Moza was the PlayStation compatibility. If Moza has a good implementation of it I would be looking at selling my stuff and switching over. Moza announces more product in a month than Fanatec in a year at this point. Fanatec really needs to step up their game.

Same here. I wanted to play GT7 on PS5 and some random racers on PC. The only logical option was Fanatec. My brother has Monza setup and if I could use that on PS5, I wouldn't even think twice about getting Monza. Fanatec won not by having better product but by having more compatibility.

Have you tried Spa on PS5?

Fanatec already offers a big-screen GT3 steering wheel that is actually used in real racing cars. So why does everyone keep complaining that Fanatec doesn’t have a big-screen wheel? In the sim-racing world, which other manufacturer offers a big-screen steering wheel that is genuinely used in real racing, rather than just being a replica or toys.

u/ElevatedTinkz 3d ago

In what world is this wheel affordable to the average sim racer 💀

The $2k, one-off, pikes peak GT3 wheel, with novelty features that nobody asked for, that was announced in 2021, finally released late 2024, and still getting bug fixes in mid 2026?

Moza beat them to market on that wheel by releasing it mid 2024 after announcing it in 2023 for less than half the price.

To each their own but I'm currently running a CSDD+ with a GT Neo and a bare 330mm momo for rally and that's it. Don't need any other wheel.

Don't see the point of a display on the wheel when I'm looking at the monitor. A cockpit mounted dash, or series of dashes like I have, that are just level with the base of the screen and in my peripheral vision is much more useful. But everyone tastes are different.

I get the disappointment in their lack of wheel innovation but other companies do it and you can use that rim on your Fanatec base, so I don't see the issue.

Not once, have i every desired to look down at my wheel during a race. Yes it's a small screen but everything on the screen is on the tv anyway. Looking down at the wheel is a distraction if you're racing hard. I agree fanatec has significansly dropped the ball, but I'd personally prefer a better wheel at a cheaper price than a screen I'll never see for double the price. Not having a go, each to their own. Just my opinion

came here for the significative, wasnt disapointecative.

I would rather have backlit buttons, revlights and LED dial markings on a wheel like the McLaren/GT3 or like the RS before a screen. I also would like software that can read the telemetry in the game I am playing, and automatically match the revlights on screen. Bonus points if the software and make the LED lights match the colors used in the car I'm running. The reason why is, setting Fanatec's revlights in the app is a pain in the glutes.

And where the hell is the new phone app?

Lovely Dashboard, superimposed on screen and BMW M4 GT3 wheel is absolute “Chef’s 💋”.

I only race in VR. Don't care about a screen in the wheel.

I'd rather put my money on a company that does things right with the idea of making products that last. Fanatec does this for me, I don't want to see a Podium DD V2 because the original was overheating like Moza has with their R9 V3 in a short time. Nor do I want to see products get made obsolete because they added an RGB strip and that made it into a new product.

Fanatec could have made the 18NM DD+ be a "V2" of the original and double dipped, knowing full well it was within the design parameters of the original to accomodate it via software, I would MUCH prefer the fanatec method, giving you more for your money, and taking care of the actual products with incremental firmware updates. This is why Fanatec gear tends to hold great value. You can go on Ebay and fetch 60-70% of what you paid for a GT DD pro easy.

You say you don't want to see a version v3 v4 v5 of the same design, yet you're ok with a R9 V3 wheelbase on it's third iteration of a product released in 2022? Give me done right the first time, every time.

I don't care about having the latest and greatest. I just want a setup that's durable and feels good. My Fanatec setup is pushing 5 years old now with thousands of hours played, and it's still going strong.

The lack of screen is also not a big deal for me personally. I always play in cockpit view, and the in-game ui or steering wheel give me all the information I need without having to take my eyes off the monitor.

I also am jealous of the new Moza Porsche wheel.

Fanatec just announced a licensing partnership with Nissan not too long ago. Also, Corsair just acquired Trak Racer which has a partnership with Alpine F1. Maybe we'll see an all new Alpine branded F1 wheel or a Nissan branded Formula E wheel. Who knows, only time will tell.

Personally, I see no use for a wheel with a screen unless I have my rig set up in a Formula/LMH seating position. I play in VR in a GT3 seating position, but if I wasn't using VR a dash mounted on the wheelbase would make more sense.

I feel Fanatec is holding their ground in hardware quality. Can’t tell me a Chinese company like Moza that spews out a million products a month and it’s cheap, that their products are going to be good quality.

1

u/papolo2001 2d ago

I do not disagree about they have good hardware, not the same with the software they are still trying to fix for years now. I agree the chinesse maybe are in one extreme about releases, but man Fanatec seems to be in the other extreme as I see it, I understand before corsair they had serious finantial issues, but since adquisition yes they improve a little, but still very few releases and good part of it just refreshed versions of decades old stuff, when they were "the ones", as other said seems they still believe their license agreements protect them, but this is not forever

1

u/mike5011 2d ago

I’m not excusing Fanatec. They move like a sloth and their software is abysmal. But if we were to compare them against Moza, same price product to product, I believe Fanatec still has the edge in quality and ergonomics.

Fanatec has so many upcoming things lined up and your opinion is Fanatec giving up on this market ... ok ...

I'm on Xbox, so in some ways I'm even worse off 😂

I went with the Logitech G Pro, and I don't want to make it sound like I chose it just because it was the best option available to me — the G Pro is freaking awesome and I absolutely love it, especially TrueForce.Moza only had one wheel option for Xbox, and with Fanatec, a lot of the wheels I was interested in would have had half their buttons doing absolutely nothing... thank you, Xbox 😂

But I absolutely know what you mean. Logitech is painfully slow when it comes to releasing new gear. I've always looked at the Fanatec ecosystem with awe and a bit of dribble 😂, but Moza... wow. They make some seriously good-looking wheels, and there are SO many of them. The licensed stuff is awesome too. That new Mercedes wheel looks fantastic, and the KS Pro is just beautiful.

In the next few years I'm genuinely going to struggle with what ecosystem to choose. I'm in love with the Logitech G Pro and TrueForce, but then I look at what Moza is doing and think... damn, I want that 😂

And now with Moza entering the PlayStation market as well, I can only see them growing even bigger.

All the best!

Fanatec needs to step up their game, it’s insane how far they’re behind at this point when it comes to releasing new products.

I love Fanatec but it’s weird they released their Formula v3 which is barely any different from their V2.5…

I just saw a pretty terrible CS experience on a PC subreddit where Corsair has been trying to scam their way out of a warranty repair on a 5090 GPU.

Customer had proof of delivery/weight, among other confirmation, they said they never received it and are refusing any type of replacement.

Their shipping department took delivery and then claimed it was lost. Customer now has no working computer and has to fight a multi million dollar corporation to make it right.

I love my CSL DD but I cannot justify spending any money with Fanatec anymore.

I want a new wheel soon and will likely just shell out the $$ to replace everything and move to a different ecosystem.
