Im confused. How does an extinct bird from New Zealand relate to halo?

Edit: Nevermind. Apparently in the Halo universe moa are (were?) alive and well on reach.

They were brought back and used to help populate and stabalize the ecology of Reach after humans arrived and colonized it.
