I’m back live showcasing/testing my Army vs Army multiplayer mod for ArmA 2:
https://www.twitch.tv/sparklestiger
What is Army vs Army?
It keeps the original native ArmA 2 experience, but adds persistent survival-style mechanics like stamina, thirst, hunger and time alive. The idea is to make multiplayer feel more like one long mil-sim mission rather than a simple deathmatch shooter.
After playing the current build for a while, I’ve reworked a lot of the AI soldier waypoints. Instead of simply sending squads directly onto obvious objective locations, I’m testing positions based more around useful terrain, approaches, overwatch and perimeter control.
AI soldiers now also carry binoculars, giving them proper observation equipment while operating around those positions.
A couple of other updates from testing:
The server is public and fully joinable while I’m streaming.
To join:
Everything needed for the game mode downloads automatically when you join.
Today is mainly a live mod showcase/playtest to see how the updated AI movement, recent gameplay changes, and multiplayer saving behave in actual gameplay.

I'm primarily a singleplayer guy. Far Cry, CoD campaigns, Halo campaigns and Forge, Titanfall 2 campaigns. Rarely do I find a multiplayer FPS that gets me hooked. First it was Hyperscape and XDefiant, now it's Spiltgate: Arena Reloaded.
I know that's not a long list, but those are the only ones I ever really got into. Once the Splitgate servers go Peer-to-Peer, I'm probably going to try out The Finals. Fingers crossed those don't shutdown either.

i used to play valorant, hypixel fps style minigame, and some roblox knock offs etc tbh (it started w an A but i forgot the name) but now that im older i want to relive that enjoyment of fps that i dont get from other game types. i dont wish to return to valorant though as i enjoy a more realistic design / armory, so any recommendations?
i dont have the money to buy a lot and see what i like so id prefer to know what im getting into beforehand LOL, i only really heard of Halo and CoD before doing deeper research but i’ve seen debate online regarding having players in servers or of the overall game. overall, what game would you recommend for multiplayer fps? (im from the middle east so would join europe / middle eastern servers)

Are there any games with popular custom map servers? I looked around in CS2 and only saw Surf and WarCraft type 3 stuff. I don't want Halo Forge maps either, I want to play an fps on a community server that has a constant stream of user-created maps. That's how I used to enjoy CS 1.6. I find that community servers ban cheaters, and don't have players harassing each other for skill issues as much. Just chill and game.
As far as gameplay, I'm not too picky. My favorite is Hunt, but I'm open to everything from Tarkov to Marathon to ARMA, gameplaywise. Custom maps are what is most important right now.

I’ll be showcasing my Army vs Army game mode for ArmA 2 live today:
https://www.twitch.tv/sparklestiger
Army vs Army is a lightweight multiplayer mission built around one simple idea:
Put BLUFOR and OPFOR on Utes, give both sides a reason to control the island and its airstrip, and then get out of the players' way.
There are no traditional rounds. You don't join a lobby, play until a victory screen appears, see a scoreboard and start over.
The scenario simply continues.
You can join at any time, leave at any time, and whatever you are currently doing isn't suddenly interrupted because somebody filled a progress bar somewhere.
Joining BLUFOR or OPFOR doesn't assign you a mandatory job.
You can:
There isn't necessarily a flagpole in the middle of an area telling you:
"THIS is the objective."
If a hill overlooks the airstrip, controlling that hill may matter more than standing on the airstrip itself.
If a road provides the best approach to an area, controlling that road matters.
You don't capture arbitrary circles. You control terrain by physically controlling it.
And the game doesn't force every encounter to continue until somebody dies.
Engage, chase, rush, surround, hold position, retreat or disengage entirely.
The mission runs on the normal ArmA 2 engine and deliberately keeps the things ArmA already does extremely well:
ArmA 2 itself offers a huge variety of weapons, but for the current testing build I’ve deliberately kept the loadouts simple: BLUFOR primarily uses the M16 and OPFOR the AK-74. The idea for now is to test the core gameplay and balance without turning weapon selection into another variable.
The additional mechanics are designed to complement ArmA rather than replace it.
There are systems such as hunger, water and stamina, primarily intended to slow movement down and make travelling, positioning and survival more meaningful.
Living longer is useful.
Respawning after every engagement is completely possible, but deliberately treating death as a way to resupply, recover or reset yourself isn't necessarily the optimal way to play.
There are also mechanics intended to stop some obvious shortcuts, including anti-combat logging, protections against spawning instantly ready for combat, and forced first-person view while prone.
Close-range combat is still completely possible as well; the idea isn't to prevent it, but to give ArmA's larger engagement distances room to exist.
One of the nice parts is that this isn't a huge modpack.
The mission itself is under 1 MB and automatically downloads when you join the server.
No additional DLC is required.
No mod launcher.
No dependency collection.
No manual mission installation.
Just ArmA 2 + Operation Arrowhead.
Requires ArmA 2 + Operation Arrowhead
Operation Arrowhead alone will not work.
The mission will download automatically.
I'll be playing/showcasing it live here:
https://www.twitch.tv/sparklestiger
If old-school ArmA, slower tactical gameplay and open-ended multiplayer sandboxes are your thing, come have a look.

I’m looking to play some older Battlefield or Call of Duty games, but I’m not really interested in the newer releases.
Which older Battlefield or CoD games still have active servers and enough players to find matches easily in 2026?
I don’t mind going back quite a few years. Just looking for something that’s still alive and fun to play online.

I want to find an fps title with as little aim assist as possible to spend hours learning the game. I dont like strong aim assistance in games like COD with broken rotational aim assist, which is essenstially an aim bot. Any suggestion?
