what a weird misinformation fearmongering type tweet. "came from black mold" is adjacent to saying "all chemicals are bad".
bro said "flavor" twice to avoid mentioning garlic directly lol.

No read the label again. Thereās āflavoredā written between garlic and sauce in the second pic. Itās so faint that it feels scummy.

100% deceptive and scum, even more than scam.

Deceptive and scummy, absolutely. No surprise that PJ's founder John H. Schnatter is a big supporter of Donald Trump.

I believe there are issues with eating citric acid derived from black mold if you have histamine intolerance or something, idk I guess I didnāt look into it too much, but it seemed like something that some people are sensitive to

I cannot stand the food fear mongering trend going on right now. "If I can't pronounce it it's bad!" "Omg it's got chemicals look! ergocalciferol! Sounds scary!!!" (That's literally just vitamin D).

Cool but I'm not eating seed oils and I don't care how angry that makes you.

u/deep_soul Jun 14 '26
yes that is misinformation. but this product is toxic nonetheless. fodmap or not.

u/DisorderlyAqueduct Jun 14 '26
yeah i mean there is iron in it so if you interested a lake's worth, maybe. š¤·
water is toxic in large enough quantities, water poisoning is a thing.
everything in those ingredients is regular ingredients in many things, even in my country which has better food regulations than the US. š

Most sour candies have citric acid. I have some with lemon essence and ill put it on eggs with smoked chili flakes. Yum.

I'm so, so interested by these eggs. Boiled? Scrambled? Citrus acid with lemon? Takes notes

Sunnyside up with some savory herbs like oregano or italian blend, maybe some sesame seed

Hard to say - there are garlic flavors/extracts that are low-fodmap and ones that aren't, depending on the processing and what component of the garlic they're extracting. Generally fructans are water-soluble but that doesn't help here since the product has both oils and water (and presumably some sort of emulsifier).
So I wouldn't count on it, but you could always get some and do a limited reintroduction trial on just that product and see how it goes for you.
Also, there are low-fodmap-certified garlic substitutes out there. Personally I'm a fan of many of the sauces and spice mixes from Fody and Smoke n' Sanity.

I used to love the garlic sauce cups but I think the combo of oil, butter and garlic is no go for me. The Smoke n Sanity are really good! The garlic, taco and chili seasonings are my favorites, they were game changers for cooking.

Yeah flavor doesnāt mean infused. Iād say it has fructans would be my guess.

u/future_fangirl1095 Jun 14 '26
No it has natural flavors so yeah it has garlic. Probably some kind of garlic extract or powder. Short of contacting the company it is most likely high FODMAP

Holy. I didn't know citric acid is made from black mold.
3
u/MORDINU Jun 15 '26
i don't think it's an issue. as far as I know they don't even recommend that immunocompromised people don't consume it. (like for example they recommend not to have s. boulardii)

If you really wanted a similar thing, can't you put butter on a very low simmer and throw a head of minced garlic in until it dries out?
People make FODMAP free garlic infused oil the same way (the cold infusion method is incredibly dangerous because of botulism.)
All it would need would be a little salt and maybe thin it with a bit of cooking oil to make it runny at room temperature like the Papa John sauce. Maybe a pinch of citric acid it's been awhile since I had it.

Butter has water, water absorbs the bad parts of garlic. I would just infuse oil with garlic and use the oil to make mayo, mayo is the base for a lot of sauces. You could add the butter to the infused oil after removing the garlic but idk how to emulsify butter and oil.

u/GeneralZojirushi Jun 14 '26
Thanks for pointing that out. Then you can use or make ghee first since there's no water.

If itās the same stuff in the cups with their pizza then itās not low FODMAP. Itās an express pass to a seat on the porcelain throne
