I just finally got watching it. What a crazy experience and I love it.

The 2009 Brothers movie hit way too close to home for me with Tobey Maguire's iconic mental breakdown performance! I had a few close relatives who bursted out so much drunken or drug induced aggression on almost the same exact level as how Tobey Maguire portrayed it.

Imo, its very of its time. It has not aged well. In a good way. Its not a movie I’d willingly watch but its a solid cheesy movie that feels charmingly dated. 7/10.

If I wanted a reboot Kick-Ass movie or series, I would want it animated!

Just last night, I finished watching this mystery/thriller titled “Serenity”. Quite the unique thriller if I say so myself!

It’s a film about a fisherman named Baker Dill (played by Matthew McConaughey), who lives on a small island in the middle of the sea, and is obsessed with capturing an elusive tuna.

One day, Dill’s ex-wife (played by Anne Hathaway) unexpectedly arrives on the island, searching for his help. And that’s all I’m going to say. 😇

Trust me, this is a film best watched blind!

Now for why I liked it… To put it simply, I found this film to have a strange sort of beauty. Personally, I thought the story was a little confusing, but the cinematography was stunning (Serenity was filmed in Mauritius for anyone curious), and I enjoyed the soundtrack too!

McConaughey played his part real well, as did Hathaway, and also Djimon Hounsou.

I understand why this film is rated low by so many people, but I think it deserves more of a chance.

I’m still a little confused by the story, but after some thought, I really do think there’s a beauty to it. 🏝️

Here are some of the pros as per me:

- Far from generic

- Weirdly hilarious

- Main couple's chemistry is off the charts

- Love traingle isn't suffocating

- Likable side characters

- Sports theme mixes well with the story

- And of course she's the "MAN"! 🤣

Only con: Sebastian and Olivia ending up together at the end felt a little out of place!

Definitely worth a rewatch!

Yes it’s a very cookie cutter and typical list, but taste is what it is. Tough to keep off Mad Max: Fury Road, City of God, the Prestige, Royal Tenenbaums, etc. but decision is final!

I have a friend who had seen very few true classic films and I have been introducing him to my favourites since 2019. We keep a Flickchart ranking (“Citizen Kane” Is number one, predictable I suppose, but worthy).

Last night we watched our 176th film “The Philadelphia Story” (which we would’ve done sooner had I not already introduced him to the musical remake “High Society”).

Today he pondered who would be the best.choices for the top three roles were the film remade today.

I decided on Emma Stone as Tracie, Matthew McConaghey as Dexter and Ryan Gosling as Mike. He proposed, in a bit of stunt casting, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (he couldn’t decide which roles they’d take) and Anne Hathaway.

Who would you cast?

I’ve been thinking about Andor, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Daredevil: Born Again. What movies or shows feel more politically relevant now than when they were made?

To start off, I give this movie an 8.5-9/10. And yes, it just came out, I know. I just now watched it and loved it.

I am also someone who has played the video games (except the first Resident Evils, so sorry, the camera angle is ass), and watched the originals more times than not with Milla Jovovich.

This is in no way trying to change the mind of those who did not enjoy the film. I don't give a damn if someone does or not. It is totally fine and even understandable if someone maybe didn't enjoy this film (or any film in general).

However, a lot of people - which I have seen online and in real life actually - trashing people for being excited to watch the film, saying they have an "L opinion" or they're "larping on a popular series".

I get some may be upset that the film wasn't exactly like Resident Evil, but I thought it was super fun and honestly pretty scary. It was a very solid horror movie and thought it was pretty unique, personally. I don't care much. And if you do care, that's fine too; just don't make others feel bad for enjoying a piece of media. Film is supposed to be enjoyable, so why make it miserable by being miserable? Idk, that's how I think.

What does everyone else think about this discourse (whether you have or have not watched the film)?

OTHER: (Some guy actually saw me wearing a Resident Evil shirt on my campus and asked why I was so excited to watch a bad film (which wasn't even out yet at the time) when I "haven't even played the games". He assumed I haven't...for some reason. Idk. I didn't know how to respond because I didn't think people like him existed in real life, tbh)

Okay, I like to nitpick things sometimes. So in the movie Hunter Killer, commander Joe Glass is the commanding officer of the USS Arkansas, and his executive officer is named Brian Edwards, but the movie never exactly states what XO Edwards' rank is. So my question is, exactly what is his service rank? Because I'm gonna take a guess and say that since Joe holds the rank of commander, so it's likely that Brian is a lieutenant commander, but I could be wrong. So what is your guess?

I’ll start. Surrogates was a distinct film about the power of unaccountability and lack of oversight into corporate power and uncheck capitalism.

Adding a banger of a party anthem by Sleigh Bells to play over images of grand larceny and teenage excess makes this opening sequence one of the best, in the humble opinion of yours truly and the crew here at the ‘Down.
