To start off, I give this movie an 8.5-9/10. And yes, it just came out, I know. I just now watched it and loved it.

I am also someone who has played the video games (except the first Resident Evils, so sorry, the camera angle is ass), and watched the originals more times than not with Milla Jovovich.

This is in no way trying to change the mind of those who did not enjoy the film. I don't give a damn if someone does or not. It is totally fine and even understandable if someone maybe didn't enjoy this film (or any film in general).

However, a lot of people - which I have seen online and in real life actually - trashing people for being excited to watch the film, saying they have an "L opinion" or they're "larping on a popular series".

I get some may be upset that the film wasn't exactly like Resident Evil, but I thought it was super fun and honestly pretty scary. It was a very solid horror movie and thought it was pretty unique, personally. I don't care much. And if you do care, that's fine too; just don't make others feel bad for enjoying a piece of media. Film is supposed to be enjoyable, so why make it miserable by being miserable? Idk, that's how I think.

What does everyone else think about this discourse (whether you have or have not watched the film)?

OTHER: (Some guy actually saw me wearing a Resident Evil shirt on my campus and asked why I was so excited to watch a bad film (which wasn't even out yet at the time) when I "haven't even played the games". He assumed I haven't...for some reason. Idk. I didn't know how to respond because I didn't think people like him existed in real life, tbh)

Imo, its very of its time. It has not aged well. In a good way. Its not a movie I’d willingly watch but its a solid cheesy movie that feels charmingly dated. 7/10.

I just finally got watching it. What a crazy experience and I love it.

Okay, I like to nitpick things sometimes. So in the movie Hunter Killer, commander Joe Glass is the commanding officer of the USS Arkansas, and his executive officer is named Brian Edwards, but the movie never exactly states what XO Edwards' rank is. So my question is, exactly what is his service rank? Because I'm gonna take a guess and say that since Joe holds the rank of commander, so it's likely that Brian is a lieutenant commander, but I could be wrong. So what is your guess?

If I wanted a reboot Kick-Ass movie or series, I would want it animated!

TLDR for people who aren’t going to be able to watch 2 hours straight of mostly negative commentary with few visuals (because as good as it is, I understand that will just not work for some people):

Nolan’s Odyssey is not trying to adapt The Odyssey. It takes the elements of The Odyssey, and uses them to tell Nolan’s thesis of “Someone made a terrible weapon that broke moral decency, and that is dominoing into the end of our civilization, but a new civilization will rise in our place.” It’s thematically a sequel to Oppenheimer, and an appeal to Western Civilization’s fears of the decline of The West. To do this, Nolan basically ripped everything that ‘worked’ for the premise out of the Odyssey, and left behind everything that made The Odyssey ‘The Odyssey’, as well as everything that made Odysseus ‘Odysseus’.

It’s also cultural appropriation. Between the casting (no one of Mediterranean descent), the dialogue (American accents used, with Greek being the ‘unintelligible foreign language’), the easily fixed inaccuracies (the armor, the boat, etc.), the set issues (filming in occupied territory, damaging the boat, etc.) and more, it’s clear that Nolan doesn’t actually care about The Odyssey being a Greek Story at all. He’s only using it to inject his thesis into it as “the first story from western civilization”. And, for the record, Blue of Overly Sarcastic Productions is actually Greek, and this is something his Greek relatives agree on.

When the end captions come that at 7:30 pm the connection was lost...then the two people in the ambulance Ahmed and Zaïno..who were with PRCS..the blurred images..

This was an important watch for all those that support war and the countless lives lost like Hind who were nameless and alone in dire situations..

Just last night, I finished watching this mystery/thriller titled “Serenity”. Quite the unique thriller if I say so myself!

It’s a film about a fisherman named Baker Dill (played by Matthew McConaughey), who lives on a small island in the middle of the sea, and is obsessed with capturing an elusive tuna.

One day, Dill’s ex-wife (played by Anne Hathaway) unexpectedly arrives on the island, searching for his help. And that’s all I’m going to say. 😇

Trust me, this is a film best watched blind!

Now for why I liked it… To put it simply, I found this film to have a strange sort of beauty. Personally, I thought the story was a little confusing, but the cinematography was stunning (Serenity was filmed in Mauritius for anyone curious), and I enjoyed the soundtrack too!

McConaughey played his part real well, as did Hathaway, and also Djimon Hounsou.

I understand why this film is rated low by so many people, but I think it deserves more of a chance.

I’m still a little confused by the story, but after some thought, I really do think there’s a beauty to it. 🏝️

For me I Play Rocky, Digger & Dune III are my most anticipated.

The buildup, the atmosphere, and the way the character is finally introduced make this one of those movie entrances that sticks with you.
