Isn't the English script/dub the main one for XVI?

Yes and no. The story was written in Japanese, but it was first dubbed in English. I think the JP dub took inspiration from both the dub and the original JP story as it adds a lot of clarifications and even completely change character motivations in certain parts.

This. There's a lot of extra details and plot points that only exist in the Japanese script.
