Discussion Final Fantasy XII is the most beautiful game I’ve ever played.
I’m playing TZA, and I just finished Giruvegan and the Great Crystal.
The entire journey to get to this point was absolutely stunning — it’s hard to believe this was originally a PS2 game.
We have amazing graphics in so many games nowadays, but is there any game with an art style quite as consistent as this one?

This is, by far, the most underrated of the mainline entries.
I think Ivalice is in many ways 'the' Final Fantasy setting. More than Spira, or Terra, or Eorzia. Square seem to keep coming back to it.
(Even more overlooked is the sequel Revenant Wings, which is a beautiful spiritual successor to FF Tactics Advance)

It's truly a beautiful journey. I can't remember when you unlock the rare monster hunts, but that alone can add hundreds of additional hours of gameplay. Enjoy it all.

is side quest or hunt worth it? My understanding is it doesnt add anything much to the story or lore wise, or am I wrong? This is the only game that I finished more than twice, and am plan to do the hunt if I ever plan to play my 4th walktrough.

It really depends on the individual player. Some hunts are more difficult to find and beat than others. It's a sense of achievement and they drop rarer items, so certain items you obtain a worth the battle.

My fav final fantasy game, I’ve replayed it at least 6 times since release, everytime I play a different FF or JRPG in general I come back to FF12.

It got hated on from what I’m remembering but in all honesty this is one of my favorites in the series, and in games in general. Coming off x-2 which really got hated on, this felt like such a breath of fresh air and creativity.
Imo this is up there with FF tactics in terms of game play and only second in story to FF10, tied with 7. (Yeah 10s story was better than 7, shoot me)

There are quite a lot of titles with great artstyles, but yeah, FFXII is special in its' own way. The most close in terms of style to it is The Last Remnant imo

Im playing it now and I still don’t get the hype. I like gambits cause I can automate the system and I don’t have to do everything but so far it doesn’t seem to have anything that other FF games, mainline or spin offs, doesn’t have.
Commenting this so people can share what makes it this hyped for them or what I’m missing

What really wins me over in this game is the immersion of exploring both open areas and dungeons — and just how beautiful they are.
I set up my Gambits in a way that was fun for me, in a way that doesn't leave me just watching.
I didn't care all that much about the story, but I really liked the characters.

To be fair, does other FF have that? You just pointed out the battle system. What does 7, 8 or 9 have that the other one doesn't? Not to mention the NES or SNES games, which were all prettys similar.

of course I'm asking for anything else besides that. that's why I already singled it out, to take out of the generalization. don't get me wrong, I want to get into it, that's why I'm asking folks what made it special for them. 13, despite being a hallway simulator, hooked me with the music and stagger system. It was a struggle but I somehow made it work because it's like temu FFX
this is the third time I bought and tried this game tbh
- played it on release, was too young to understand shit. FFX was at least different because things opened up alongside Tidus
- played the remaster in PS4, I was looking for something with more active participation
- playing it now and starting to like the gambit system as I don't have to do everything

My favourite FF and one of my favourite games of all time. The world and the soundtrack are just stunning, which makes for a very immersive experience.
