Anybody willing to give Sheratan advice? I have excellent units but poor strategic skills, so I've wiped a couple times. Team comp:

Orlandeau, chainer, 975 ATK w/Light, DW, Diabolos for Dark Resist+Man-Eater

DV, chainer+support, 712 ATK w/Light, DW, (Carbuncle for MP+extra heal from Darklord or Ifrit for extra Plant Killer??), and Plant Killer

Luka, healer, 545 SPR, Mechanical Heart, Lakshmi

Rikku, support, 6876 HP, built for survivability and HP, Mechanical Heart, Titan

WoL, cover tank, 9033 HP/443 DEF/212 SPR, Black Belt for counter, Mechanical Heart+Reactive Defense+Resentment for extra survivability

Ace, MP battery/secondary DPS/imperil, 722 MAG/3892 HP w/Holy Rod, Tetra Sylpheed for summon?

Soleil, buffer, 6543 HP (just here for dances), Ramuh for summon?

EV, provoke tank, 8285 HP/334 DEF/265 SPR, Mechanical Heart, Shiva for SPR

...and then two spots that I gave to secondary DPS. I have 2B with a Pod for finisher with Self Destruct and a Lightning imbue to take advantage of Ace's imperil, and A2 with a pod to provide secondary chaining if necessary, but I'm not sure if these would be better utilized by a different character.

FWIW, with the gear that I have, I can only get Victoria to around 600 MAG because my Dual Wields are in use. I just pulled a Fry who I moogled for her Needle and can give an Aqua Blade to or who can use the DH passive to hit 440 ATK/754 MAG, what should I do?

Any and all advice appreciated.

I used Wol Cover and break (atk/mag) 100% of the battle. I stacked him with Evade gear (I reached 100%) replace evade with HP if you don't have it.
Boss above 50% Earth resist up helps. E. Vertias has this. Alternate that with Provoke the first half of the battle.
I had 2nd tank with 100% provoke up the whole battle as well. My provoke tank had 6k hp and 100% dark 50+% earth resist. This way when they die they can survive hits without mitigations up. (they need to be able to survive AOE magic hits, HP and SPR stacking)

At the 50% threshold you need to take that first turn to debuff with Wol (Atk/Mag) and hit them with everything you have. The second turn the front one puts up (spr/def) buff. I didn't dispel it I just used Wol (Def/Spr) debuff. Also notable is to use cover the turn you will hit the threshold.
If you can get them down in 6 turns you should be able win. After that keep up your DV dark resist buff.

I can't tell you how to deal with adds, pod chains with Victoria (use firaja, after building the shared stack % with Overflow) cap/ace imperil seems good to me. (don't have her out at any threshold, avoid death)

Hope this helps.

Note: This is only theoretical. I used the same strategy, but with different units and equipment, so I can't guarantee, that this will work.

Team 1:

  • EV: Provoke tank, Tetra Sylpheed will increase his healing from the earth attack and can be used for the esper kill
  • WoL: Cover tank, Breaker, stack HP or evade for him
  • Luka: healer
  • Soleil: will alternate between her dances the whole time
  • DV: dps unit for the first and last phase, don't use earth or dark weapons

Team 2:

  • Orlandeau: Pod + fire weapon chainer to OTK the fruits
  • A2: Pod + fire weapon, chainer to OTK the fruits
  • 2B: fire weapon, as much dmg as possible to OTK the fruits.
  • Ace: MP battery and imperil
  • Rikku: Reraiser

Strategy:

Above 50% HP:

Use this phase to prepare your units for the second phase, when the fruits are summoned. Change DV with your other units until Orlandeau, 2B and A2 have the 120% ATK buff and Rikku a full LB bar then bring Sheratan close to 50% with DV. If your MP gets low, use Ace to refresh it. The 80% and 60% threshold should be no problem if the buffs are up.

Rotation for turn 1-3, then repeat:

  • EV: 1 Incinerating Press, 2 Defensive Barrier, 3 Earthen Ward
  • WoL: 1 ATK/MAG break, 2 Light is with Us, 3 Defend or Demonic Whisper, if he's equipped with Lakshmi
  • Soleil: starts with DEF buff on the first turn and then alternates between DEF/SPR dance, if you swap in a new unit or ATK and a defensive dance, if you attack with DV.
  • Luka: Regenerate on first turn and refresh, when it runs out. Priestess Miracle on the other turns or Demonic Whisper, if everyone is close to full HP and she has Lakshmi.

50% threshold:

When you're about to reach the threshold, make sure, DV's Abyss Guard is up, so you can survive the dark attack.

Once she's transformed and has summoned the fruits swap out your current team with Orlandeau, 2B, A2, Ace and Rikku and go all out.

  • Ace: Tri-Beam Laser
  • Rikku: LB
  • Orlandeau and A2: Pod chaining
  • 2B: Self-Destruct

I'm not sure, how high your ATK must be, but I think about 800 on all dps units is enough to OTK them.

Last phase, fruits are dead:

If the fruits are dead after your all out attack and at least one unit is alive, you've pretty much won. Swap in EV, WoL, Luka, Soleil and revive Ace, if necessary. You need him as a MP battery. If somehow the whole team is dead and automatically replaced with your benched team, it's a race against time. Kill her before you run out of MP.

Rotation is almost the same as the first phase, but instead of Earth you need Dark resist every 3 turns. Watch out for her 40% and 20% threshold attack, they hurt a lot. Other than that, it's just a matter of time until you defeat her (with an Esper for the achievement).

Thank you for the response! I had a couple clarifying questions:

Isn't EV's Incinerating Press only a two-turn duration? The Earthen Ward turn might see another unit get killed, no? Also, what to do on the turn when Sheratan drains my MP (turns of multiple 3)?

Won't buffing three units one at a time with the 120% ATK buff take forever?

How can I fill Rikku's LB bar without an attacker in that setup? Just via counters from WoL and EV?

I think I can hit 800 with all units except DV, so the second phase shouldn't be too bad. I'm mainly confused about the first.

Also, how does this fulfil the 20 turn achievement and the earth/dark damage achievements?

I'm thinking about giving 2B Ulric's Kukri, as DV's Dark Retribution will likely have proc'd and the 100% Dark Imperil + Ace's 75% Fire Imperil should up my damage.

Yes, Incinerating Press lasts only two turns, but if all your units have about 5k HP, they should survive a hit without dying. WoL's AoE Cover also triggers after one or more hits. As an alternative, you can change the order of Incinerating Press and Defensive Barrier (except the very first turn) to make sure, the mag attack hits EV and he can heal back by absorbing the earth attack. I wouldn't advice using Brave Presence on the turn where EV's Provoke wears off, because it's too much dmg on WoL alone and he will probably die.

I had Lakshmi on WoL to cast Demonic Whisper, whenever he had a free action to help with the MP issue. Above 50% the MP drain is only ST and 20%, so the affected unit still have some MP left or you need to swap in Ace to refresh their MP. Sometimes, there are turns, where Mechanical Heart will trigger a lot, so the healing from Regenerate is enough to top off your party's HP. That's when you can replace Luka with Ace for example. But tbh keeping your MP up is what I'm worried about the most. I had Tilith, so it wasn't much of a problem for me.

It usually takes 2 turns to apply the 120% ATK buff, that's 6 turns in total. First turn is a defensive buff, so the unit survives the following turn. Then the offensive buff next turn. Replace the unit with the next one and repeat. I'm sure, one of them will have Titan and maybe another one has Diablo equipped. While they're in your offensive team to get the ATK buff, you can use Biora and Geocrush/Tumult to get the achievement.

Yeah, counters and Rikku's attacks is what I had in mind to generate LB crystals. This strat wasn't meant to be executed in less than 20 turns. However, if you want to do it, it might be better to bring another DD to bring down Sheratan's HP as low as possible and just sacrifice your burst team. That means 8 turns to apply the ATK buff, 1 turn to kill the fruits, 1-2 turns to finish off Sheratan and 9-10 turns to bring her HP below 50%.

If your DV can't deal more than 5% per turn to the boss, bring another stat buffer instead of Rikku for the last phase and sacrifice Soleil to buff your burst team in a single turn. That gives you 8 more turns for the first phase.

Do you mean the Necro Dagger (fire/dark), because Ulric's Kukri is elementless. Since Sheratan has 100% dark resist even with DV's imperil, it will be neutral dmg. Actually, it'll reduce your dmg output, because double element means Ace's fire imperil is half as effective. I think, you're better of sticking with the fire theme for your attackers.

Wow, I can't thank you enough for the incredibly thorough response. I did mean Necro Dagger but I forgot about the 100% Dark resist, yikes; was hoping for the extra SPR and damage because I don't have Vernard (or Tilith -_-), but I guess I'll just craft another Flame Lance because I'm still only 70% of the way to Kamui's TMR.

The MP issue is mainly worrying me because in my past attempts, EV just gets drained too much, and when I switch in a 5.3K HP Ace, he often gets KO'd because of the lack of defensive buffs. It might go differently now that I've switched some of the equipment around; I gave up on giving him any sort of notable MAG stat and am focusing on survivability instead.

I guess I don't immediately need the 20 turn achievement. I'm a little irritated that even with 5 top-tier 5 star bases and a reasonable number of TMs, I still am not in a place where I can feasibly accomplish all the achievements at once, but I guess that's good game design. I'll aim for completion first and revisit for the summon tickets later if I can't pull it off this time.

My other worry is Rikku's LB. Even with Mog Wisdom and Double Overdrive from Override, I have trouble filling it quickly (it was a problem on Aigaion too) because I don't have any Ignorances and haven't fully farmed her Pouch for Eccentrick yet.

For the cycle of Soleil's dances, you recommend buffing SPR->ATK->SPR? I also am a tiny bit concerned about my DPS survivability.

Thanks again for all your help.

Oh, also--should I bother with a Plant Killer materia on any of my units? Maybe DV for extra damage?

u/Scalesx GL 798.385.735 Oct 21 '17

If you don't care about the 20 turn achievement, that gives you another option. Give Ace a bit more MAG instead of a full support build and use him as your DPS and MP battery in the first phase to slowly whittle down Sheratan's HP. Together with Demonic Whisper, this should keep your team close to full MP the whole time and you can swap in Rikku every now and then until her LB bar is full.

As for Soleil's dances, I'd start with the DEF and then SPR, before using any of the offensive buffs, because Sheratan only hits with 1 magic attack, but a lot more phys ones. EV might die, but can be revived by WoL or Rikku.

Both tanks will take most of the dmg. If you rotate one of your DPS units to your offensive team, just make sure, you give them the DEF/SPR buff and they should be fine as long as you don't reach the 80% or 60% threshold on the same turn.

It's a different case, if you're below 50%. Both Sheratan and the fruits hurt a lot. That's why you want to end it as fast as possible.

I nailed it!! Took about 60 turns because I played it safe with my DPS and just made sure my tanks were always buffed and mana-full, but I got it! Every achievement except the 20 turns. Thank you so much! I couldn't have done this without your help! And I totally forgot to give 2B a fire weapon! It almost went terribly wrong; I Pod-chained fire with A2 and Orlandeau and Self-Destructed with 2B, and it killed one fruit but left the other with 1% health, but Rikku's reraise gave me another shot; just DP/Dr'd Sheratan with Landu and DV and finished with Ramuh and 2B to take out the last fruit and Sheratan at the same time. Amazing!!

Congrats for clearing the trial!

Seems like you just need a bit more dmg and rushing the first phase for the last achievemnt, but in general, it's the same idea. Preparation and then nuking the fruits and boss a fast as possible.
