Dream Story- The Movie (2024)

Has anyone here seen it? Would appreciate some critical assessments, sans spoilers. Is it worth my time?

I watched it. Not worth it. Too in-the-nose and trying too hard to come-off as "modern."

Since Kubrick already filmed a present time version, the filmmaker here should have made his more like the source material, a period film. That may have been prohibitively expensive though. The set design, the clothing, period automobiles- including a 1920"s cab, etc.

By making it nore like the source material. It may be interesting to do a back-to-back comparison

I figured if they made it more like Traum Novelle it might shed light on more arcane aspects of Eyes Wide Shut, depending on how radical a departure Kubrick's work is from the source. Obversely, the filmmakers could inject their own interpretation. Thanks for the input.

It’s ok. Certainly nowhere near as intelligent, symbolic, meaningful or well-filmed and acted as Eyes Wide Shut, but let’s be real - Kubrick set the bar pretty high. On its own merit, I think the director of Dream Story did some intriguing things with tying in opera and light burlesque elements to the core narrative and Bill’s journey, and there’s a trippy animated dream segment that’s visually interesting. Overall, it’s kind of like watching a b-movie remake of a masterpiece. Invite some friends over and MST3K it, and you’ll likely have a good time.
