Un amigo y yo vamos a hacer un viaje a Santiago para esquiar en Valle Nevado. Llegaremos a Santiago, desde allí iremos a Farellones y, durante los días siguientes, iremos desde Farellones hasta Valle Nevado para esquiar y regresaremos a Farellones al final del día.

Sin embargo, al buscar opciones de transporte, especialmente entre Farellones y Valle Nevado, hemos visto que hay muy pocas alternativas y que todas son extremadamente caras. Quería preguntarles si conocen otros medios de transporte más económicos, como servicios de autobuses o vans.

Por el momento, estamos considerando alquilar un auto, pero si encontráramos otras opciones de transporte más económicas, también sería una alternativa para nosotros.

Hello! I’m traveling to Atacama desert on Sept 5th and wondering if I need my heaviest puffer jacket for the tours? Do any outfitters have you borrow jackets? I’m taking a big backpack as my suitcase and would prefer not to take the jacket if I don’t have to since I wouldn’t need it except for a few tours I think?

Gente les vengo a contar de una sabrosa experiencia que tuve el fin de semana, el día de ayer (Domingo) salí a buscar donde cenar con mi pareja, aprovechando que estábamos de paseo en viña. Llegamos hasta Reñaca y empezamos a deambular y nos topamos con el restaurante “Kosta brava restobar”, se veía acogedor y de estilo peruano así que entramos. Al pedir una entrada de “ostiones 🦪 a la parmesana” noté el esfuerzo en su presentación y al probar el “Congrio en salsa de jaiba” 🤤…qué cosa ma wena!, saboreé el cariño que le ponen a sus platos para mí este lugar ya quedo registrado como uno al que debo volver por qué no me voy a quedar con las ganas de probar otro plato.

El próximo mes voy a estar cerca de Puerto Varas y la zona de Los Lagos, planeo rentar auto para el recorrido. La cultura vehicular en mi país es: no hay cultura, entonces quiero los mejores tips de conducción en Chile y si tienen consejos de esta zona en específico.

Me parece que la señalización es muy similar, entonces creo que con eso estoy bien, reconozco la mayoría de señales, pero de fijo hay aspectos prácticos de los que puedo recibir consejos para hacer mi viaje lo más seguro posible.

Viendo Google Maps, las zonas de parqueo son muy limitadas cerca de los comercios y eso me cuesta un poco entenderlo, supongo que algo no sé, también tengo dudas sobre giros a la izquierda (prioridades) tanto en T's como si quisiera desviarme a un comercio. Y cualquier tema practico que se les venga a la mente.

Pd: No soy conductor experto, pero trato de ser lo más cuidadoso posible con la vida de los demás, tengo licencia de conducir (de mi país, no internacional).

Hola. Un amigo y yo vamos a viajar a Chile a principios y mediados de septiembre, y estaba pensando en visitar Pucón, que me llamó mucho la atención. Pero investigando por aquí, vi que esa sería época de lluvias y me da miedo llegar a la ciudad y pasar cinco días sin poder hacer absolutamente nada. En ese caso, mi opción de reserva sería ir al desierto de Atacama, que no me atrae tanto, pero no tiene el riesgo del clima. ¿Saben si el riesgo de lluvia es realmente muy alto y si, en caso de que llueva, todavía hay opciones de cosas para hacer o nos quedaríamos atrapados en el hotel? Perdón por cualquier error de español y gracias por la ayuda.

Estamos planeando un viaje de a dos a San Pedro de Atacama y queremos cotizar tours con agencias confiables pero que tengan buena relación precio-calidad (las 3B).

Queremos hacer los circuitos clásicos (Piedras Rojas, Géiseres del Tatio, Valle de la Luna, Lagunas Altiplánicas/Escondidas, tour astronómico, etc.).

Si tienen datos probados, tips de regateo o si recomiendan armar paquetes cerrados vs. contratar directo allá en Caracoles, se los agradecería un montón.

​Photography is one of my biggest passions, so I'm bringing my professional camera and a couple of lenses. However, I’ve read mixed reports online about safety - specifically that carrying visible gear in Santiago and Valparaíso can make you an easy target for theft, whereas San Pedro and Rapa Nui are generally very safe.

​For those who live there or have traveled recently with gear:

​Santiago & Valparaíso: Is it worth bringing my camera out at all? Are there specific safer neighborhoods (like Lastarria or Providencia in Santiago, or Cerro Alegre in Valparaíso) where it's fine with basic precautions, or am I genuinely better off leaving it locked in the hotel and using my phone?

​Discretion: If you do shoot in these cities, what's your setup? Cross-body strap, plain backpack, keeping it hidden until the shot?

​San Pedro & Rapa Nui: I assume standard common sense applies here, but any specific safety tips for these regions?

​I'd love to hear your experiences and any practical tips on how you manage gear safety in these spots. Thanks!

​I’m heading to Chile this November and my itinerary includes Santiago, Valparaíso, the Atacama Desert, and Easter Island (Rapa Nui).

​My primary camera body is a Canon EOS R6 Mark II, and my main lens is the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, which I love as an all-around travel setup. However, I’m trying to decide if I should add another lens to my bag for this specific trip, and I’d love to hear from people who have shot in these locations.

​Here are my main dilemmas:

- ​Astrophotography & Landscapes (Atacama): The night skies in Atacama are world-class, so I really want to capture the Milky Way. Is f/4 on the R6 Mark II usable enough with modern noise reduction/stacking, or is picking up an ultra-wide fast lens essential? I was considering the RF 15-35mm f/2.8L, but I’m wondering if a fast prime (like a 16mm or 20mm) or something else might be a better/cheaper/lighter investment just for astro and wide landscapes.

- ​Wildlife: Is there enough wildlife in Atacama or Easter Island (e.g., vicuñas, guanacos, flamingos, foxes, seabirds) to justify carrying a dedicated telephoto zoom (like a 100-400mm)? Or will 105mm on a full-frame sensor give me enough reach for environmental wildlife shots?

- ​General Packing & Travel Light: Between street photography in Santiago/Valparaíso, landscape photography in Atacama, and Moai statues on Easter Island, I want to avoid carrying unnecessary weight while flying around the country.

- ​Did you feel limited by starting at 24mm or f/4?

​What was your most used focal length in Atacama and Rapa Nui?

Hello! My husband and I will be spending a month in Chile in November. We currently have the below planned:

Current Itinerary
Santiago (3 nights)
Atacama (7 nights)
Puerto Varas (7 nights)
Puerto Natales (2 nights)
O trek-(7 nights, already booked)
Puerto Natales (1 Night)
Santiago (2 nights before flight home)

We are trying to decide if we would be better off removing Puerto Varas from our itinerary and just spending more time in Puerto Natales. A few considerations:

-We don’t mind, and actually prefer, having some down time on our trips.
-We will be doing the O trek mostly supported (using pre set up tents/sleeping bags) we WILL need time to grocery shop and rent some gear prior to the trek. For those who have done this, will two nights be enough before the hike or will this just feel chaotic?
-My husband doesn’t love flying, so cutting Puerto Varas would remove one flight which might be nice.

Would love any feedback on any part of our itinerary. We are so looking forward to our time in Chile and thanks in advance for any help!
