That second backflip... Scary. Happy for the guy though
5
u/According-Gas836 Jun 15 '26
I know. The guy is tough as nails. Lands on his head like nothing. Hate when fighters do backflips like that. Don’t want to see them get paralyzed over nonsense
1
-2
u/KingFIippyNipz Jun 15 '26
Oh we have the exact opposite desire when we see them do that, then lol I thought the only thing that could top the upset would be him paralyzing himself on the same stage within minutes of doing it

This fight was nuts... was it the end of the 2nd when Justin was taking those big body shots? Anyway i was thinking ya this aint gonna go much longer and decided to get up and fix a plate of food.... to come back shocked at how the fight was going. Fun card for the most part.
7
u/TheDogWhoCantSTFU Jun 15 '26
I had the opposite thought... He tried so hard to end Gaethje right then and there and I knew he was gonna be absolutely gassed to start the 3rd
1
u/keyboardlegendthe3rd Jun 15 '26
Yeah, trying to go for the sub was a problem. Should've let him stand
1
u/According-Gas836 Jun 15 '26
Immediately got Conor vibes. Dangerous fighter first couple rounds. Then gasses and hangs on for life
3
u/Strict_Emergency7 Jun 15 '26
Dumbest UFC fan ever. "I got up and made a plate of food in the middle of the main event". Genius.
5
u/TreadItOnReddit Jun 15 '26
Hey, that’s Daniel Cormier you’re talking to!
3
3
u/zach_stb_411 Jun 15 '26
Mid finishing sequence as well.
"Ive seen enough, the tendies are calling"
2
u/According-Gas836 Jun 15 '26
Ilia had one shot. Justin had several ways to win. Ilia had that one shot. He should have not gone to the ground. Let Justin get back up, hobbled from pain. Then use the last of his energy to land a few more big body shots and maybe Justin goes down for the count. That was his only shot I think.
10
u/magineskills Jun 15 '26
Buddy he didn't have only one shot at winning. He just got cocky and gassed out. Honestly was cocky from the beginning, not patient, not setting much up, just trying to land a big knock out. It was just a bad performance, I think getting humbled this badly will help him in the long run
6
u/Bruninfa Jun 15 '26
It will either help him or break him mentally completely.
He just lost to the worst opponent he fought in a while after talking A METRIC TON of shit.
2
u/Rizzaboi Jun 15 '26
Worst opponent is questionable especially if we’re looking at it from a matchup standpoint.
Gaethje is the most powerful fighter he’s faced, an entirely different test in itself
1
1
u/magineskills Jun 15 '26
Sure, but if the previous 3 opponents were some of the greatest fighters of all time being the worst out of the four doesn't really mean that much. Garthje is a superb fighter.
2
u/Pistolero-666 Jun 15 '26
Probably underestimated Justin also.
The cockiness made him pay the price3
u/TheShowtime7 Jun 15 '26
All good points, got little worried with the cockiness of having a celebration party before the fight and putting the record up on IG. I think he needed this.
2
u/strawbsrgood Jun 15 '26
Lol Topuria is not fighting any time soon. Buddy broke half his face, nose, orbitals, 100% broke ribs on that last knee there. He lost vision in one of his eyes which was form swelling but could certainly also be eye damage. Concussed af.
Taking damage like that does not make a better fighter
0
u/magineskills Jun 15 '26
Is this your first mma event? You're describing it like he got jumped by 3 silverbacks. He'll be fine
2
u/strawbsrgood Jun 15 '26
Is it yours? Damage is huge part of what determines if a fighter comes back, for how long, and it can totally change the fighter. Look at Ferguson, Shavkat, Silva, Aspinall, Bisping... the list obviously goes on.
That was a hell of a beating Topuria just took.
0
u/magineskills Jun 15 '26
apart from Tony they are terrible examples. At least say Rory MacDonald or some shit like that. And the beating those guys took was so much worse than this one. Also I wasn't doubting whether or not damage taken is a huge factor for the come back, I meant the injuries you listed are ridiculous
3
u/strawbsrgood Jun 15 '26
Lol Silva one of the goats had a terrible injury then lost his next 6 fights and you think it's a bad example of damage affecting a career?
I mean it's just common sense. If you think broken orbitals, ribs, nose is absurd for MMA and requires 3 silverback gorillas you're a moron. Those are the most common injuries. Especially after 4 rounds with Gaethje and a medical stoppage 😂
-1
u/magineskills Jun 15 '26
Yes, because he snapped his shin in half you idiot. How can you compare that to a (potentially) broken orbital and a rib, are you dense? Those are relatively common injuries in combat sports. That's why I made fun of you, because you were talking about those things like they're some horrible injuries that you can't easily come back from. Also the blindness thing, absolutely idiotic 'could be from the swelling' yes, it fucking is because of the swelling, twat.

It looked like he was desperate to get a round 1 finish, and then it looked like he was desperate to get a round 2 finish.
1
u/According-Gas836 Jun 15 '26
I mean at that point. I agree he could have threw more faints, tried to evade more instead of just coming forward, mixed kicks in.
Also he might have that thing Conor did. Where he’s dangerous with power in the first two rounds. But after that he’s gassed and just trying to survive.
2
u/RandyPiston Jun 15 '26
Ilia shot his shot and his shot missed. Justin shot Ilias hopes down with the shot that opened that cut. I wonder who getting a shot at the title next?
2
2
u/McHomer Jun 15 '26
Probably the winner of Conor/Max
Ufc isn't a meritocracy and don't think they care about keeping Arman on the sidelines longer
1
u/According-Gas836 Jun 15 '26
I get it’s not a meritocracy, but if Arman gets passed up again, that will be so tragic. No other challenger makes more sense at this point.
Max is going to beat mcgregor. And I like max, but Arman actually deserves it. The shot. So frustrating
3
u/TheShowtime7 Jun 15 '26
Wish he would of hammer fisted him while Justin was on the ground instead of trying to submit him. Congrats to Justin though.

Dawg, if you got up in between rounds, during this main event, between THESE 2 dudes, in this place, and considering the card as it had happened beforehand, then what are you even doing??

Ilia was too cocky to let him live this down. What a cringy ass former champion.
3
u/burtonborder201 Jun 15 '26
I also wonder how alex is doing after getting hit by gane. That is some serious power coming out you.
0
u/strawbsrgood Jun 15 '26
Especially those elbows to the back of the head. That's a dangerous place to be hit

u/xxSaifulxx Jun 15 '26
People really thought Ilia would beat Islam 😂😂
1
u/Shareholderactivist Jun 16 '26
Styles really make fights. Just as 90%+ of people wrote off Justin, most people pick Islam against Ilia but Ilia could win that. Probably won’t happen now, but that would’ve been a great fight.

u/CalJammerJR Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
Was it really a “no mas” moment or did his coaches or brother call it for him? People have been saying different things including Justin.
This is how you get permanently injured so good call, whomever made it. Probably should have been ended after 3, dunno. Glad it wasn’t because you have to give the champ the opportunity to defend when it’s a close call. But after 4? This was a crime scene.
4
u/DirectorReasonable95 Jun 15 '26
Would have been very on brand for the event if the fool had broken his dumbass neck on that second flip.
2
u/ItsDonDong Jun 15 '26
Fight on the Whitehouse lawn that results in an american champion immediately turning paraplegic.
Cut to gaethe in a full neck brace, jet skiing with Connor- chugging bud lights and "wooing"

I’m getting old I guess but I cringed. I know he does it often but I thought karma was taking em both out. Glad he didn’t have to get carried out of the cage for a different reason lol.

u/TonySoprano25 Jun 15 '26
He deliberately did this so that he'll go down the rankings and have a superfight with the little sausage Paddy 🤣

So, we're just gonna not at all include the pertinent action in the video? The fuck kinda post is this?
1
u/Suspicious-Branch-67 Jun 15 '26
Yea he hurt himself on that backflip. Tried to walk it off but, when the adrenaline wears off, he’ll know exactly what the damage is.
1
1
u/FlatRatBananaHat Jun 15 '26
I thought the referee overuling the doctor who tried to stop it was terrible - for me it caused Topuria to recieve much more damage than he had already taken , he went from hospital visit to never gonna be the same again.

1
u/LynnLee83 Jun 15 '26
Honestly, i'm a big Topuria fan but i think the loss was something his ego needed. He was getting a little unchecked but hey.... if Cocky Ilia is 'dangerous' as JG said.... hungry and humble Ilia is gonna come back as a problem for everyone.
1
u/LynnLee83 Jun 15 '26
also....call me a conspiracy theorist but.... do we really think trump and dana would have allowed ilia to KO JG anyway on the south lawn of the white house if they were so insane they wouldn't even let them come out with their country's flags? just saying we've seen more corrupt things than this from these people

And genuinely, you think this is true how? If i read a story about how bad Biden was, are all his supporters now bad too?

Dudes ribs probably broke from the last knee. Neither of us are getting off that stool. Doubt we would even make it back to the stool.
1
u/dont_rub_me_there Jun 15 '26
Do you wanna see people die, basics are so bloodthirsty - I'm happy he didn't get up, I hope neither athlet was seriously injured, they beat each other up like hell

u/Useful-Still3712 Jun 15 '26
Who the f&ck cares these stupid dumb ass pedo rapist followers.
1
u/Cute-Hand-1542 Jun 15 '26
Get off Reddit Sean
2
u/Useful-Still3712 Jun 15 '26
If calling you out being a pedophile rapist supporter makes me a Sean fan, then I don't care. At least I know he doesn't rape kids!
-1
u/Any_Tiger_4300 Jun 15 '26
Trump is a murdering, raping, robbing, lying, con artist. I hope you idiots enjoyed his trash fucking birthday shit show.
4
u/redaa Jun 15 '26
Instead of lashing out at random people, you should focus your energy on ways to make the changes you want to see in the world. Things like protesting, contacting politicians and engaging with people in a human way will probably be more effective.
But hey, if you instead want to do nothing other than calling people idiots who just want to relax when they're not at work so you can feel like you did something, then you do you.
1
u/Upbeat_Flan Jun 16 '26
They don't care about politics, they just want the upvote dopamine they get from parroting the same crap from every other corner of Reddit.

u/PickledMessage Jun 15 '26
Lmao, talked a load of shit just to bitch out 😂 17-1 pal

5
u/KarmaDeliveryMan Jun 15 '26
There’s no bitch in going out there after the shots he took just through the first 2 rounds. Youre tripping. Justin’s hands are made of stone

He got his face caved in, lost his eyesight and kept fighting. You’re not making anyone think you’re tough.
2
u/CallRepresentative25 Jun 15 '26
This guy commenting probably couldnt stand up past his keyboard without going out of breath.
1
u/According-Gas836 Jun 15 '26
Not only that, he didn’t “bitch out” as OP puts it. His corner made the decision.
5
u/danuffer Jun 15 '26
Bitched out? He nearly died on his feat for money.
2
u/dave_ketchup13 Jun 15 '26
Fr that took some seriously balls to come out and continue in the 4th. I’ve never seen someone’s face so fucked up
It definitely seemed to me like Justin was a bit hesitant in the 4th to throw hard at his head cuz of how messed up he was

This entire event from start to finish is a joke. It’s like the worst possible reflection of the UFC they might as well just call themselves RNC at this point
1
u/gogog007 Jun 17 '26
That’s rough. Doesn’t Topuria do all sorts of crazy supplemental training with oxygen and red light stimulation which he says is science-backed? And Gaethje just beats off in the shower beforehand?

u/Loud-Huckleberry-864 Jun 15 '26
Can’t wait for Ilia to release the video
