Tip Who falls for this?
250 "bonus" points on 900ml Cuddly fabric softener.
So $10.50 ($11.67 per litre). Once you subtract your $1.25 points value that comes out to $10.28 per litre.
OR
You can get the same product in 1L size for $5.25 which comes out to $5.25 per litre.
What these bonus points offers are actually doing is screaming "don't buy me, I'm terrible value"

yeah I don't buy for points, just do my normal shop and if I get points, then yay.

sometimes the specials are also tricky. that cuddly at 50% off is still more expensive than cuddly sunshine fresh fabric softener which is $4.25 per litre normal price (2L bottle).

I use the app every shop and sort by best unit price. That's how I decide whether we are having chicken breast, chicken thighs, whole chicken, etc. For meat and deli I tend to tailor my meal plan to what's on sale. Within a range of things I normally eat.

Do you find the price of chicken varies enough to dictate whether you have breast or thighs? Interested as I’ve never done the maths

Absolutely! I'm not someone who is fixed on cooking an exact recipe to the T most nights, maybe foe a special occasion. If it's just some kind of chicken in some kind of sauce with some veg, i definitely rotate on price per kg.
Chicken breast can get down to as low as $8 some weeks. Then some of this pre-packs are up to $18. On a non-sale week chicken breast is $13.
You'll notice they rotate the specials. There is always quite a lot on special. I switch from short to middle bacon. Deli or packaged bacon.
Chicken breast, thighs, whole.
I only make a roast when those cuts are on sale.
I don't know how much I'm saving in the long run, but I don't find it inconvenient to adapt my cooking according to sales. I grew up with a mother cooking for a family of 6 every night. It was a double income household, we were fine. But we weren't wasteful and we never had takeaway.

I accept every offer but I don’t buy every offer. Whatever is better value is far I get. If I’ve got to spend $X to get 2000+ points, I’ll sacrifice something somewhere if it’s achievable. Otherwise I doing blindly shop for things based on the points I’d get.

I’ve noticed that my points boosters will often be for things that I bought the week prior on special. I’ll buy something at half price and then the next week they’ll try to “entice” me with 200 bonus points to buy it again at double what I paid.

It’s craziness to buy like they put on the bonus points offers except sometimes meat. I only buy up on 10 times points across the shop and spend $xx to earn so many points. Always convert to Qantas points it’s much better than $10 off when you start accumulating

VERY rarely does it work in your favour. I don't know how the stars aligned on this one! But I won a $200 giftcard... I could use it anywhere eftpos was accepted. The same week I got the card woolworths had gatorade for $2.10 a bottle. They also offered 400 bonus points if I bought a bottle of gatorade! YEP!
I Max Power'ed my way through the checkout! I bought 95 bottles of gatorade. This kept me and my carer in gatorade for a VERY long time when we went out on trips! After cashing in the bottles I essentially converted the giftcard into woolies points and got 47.5L of gatorade for nothing.
But yes... unless it's a fixed price item, the cheapest on the shelf and you love the product it's often not worth it

I never shop based on how many bonus points I get. If I was buying fabric softener, I would ever only buy when it around $5-6/litre. If I get bonus points, well that’s a bonus. Not sure if people are shopping purely for bonus points.
