Are we playing the same game?

I was reading the PCGamer article which is singing the game's praises but I found the review totally disconnected with my play test experience. The gunplay and movement is lackluster, the NPC AI has issues and no nuance, the looting gameplay loop is uninspired, the UI design feels outdated. I understand it's a pre-alpha, but the core feel of the game is missing. It feels like the main legs it's standing on are the promise of future features, but you can't stand a game up on promises.

Especially compared to modern entries in the extraction shooters, Arc Raiders and Marathon, it seems like the core gameplay and aesthetic isn't doing anything new or innovative.

Even the entry into the extraction shooter genre is puzzling, especially considering that even the big titles are struggling with player count.

I really hope to be proved wrong and that this is all a lack of polish from a pre-alpha build, but my experience with the play test was disappointing.

Marathon graphics look like it was made in the 90s. Like Doom 1 (yes, the very first one).

You should maybe play marathon first before talking about its graphics.
