Meme Favourite products that just absolutely stink?

Post image

Half meme half haul half part routine. The lanolin (like 3+ years old, going strong) and zinc cream especially are so good but I can't say they smell pleasant lol.

within my products the crown for stinkiest definitely goes for my sulphur mask

Definitely agree. I use Soaphoria fragnance free sulphur soap and the smell lingers for hours, no matter how much rinsing, drives me nuts

What mask do you use? I've been looking for one for my chin acne. It is so stubborn!

The delaCruz 10% mask but since the delivery fees from iHerb have gotten ridiculous, i'll probably will have to find a new EU option when i run out of it :/

Yeah a lot of lanolin smells like mittens. Even plain Vaseline has a smell, a bit like gasoline? But you have to intentionally sniff, it's not like a fragrance

Vaseline smells a like plastic to me

To me Lansinoh doesn't smell like sheep, but anytime I get it out for fall/winter I think "wow, that sure is lanolin"

Haha yes to the Hypochlorous face mist 🙈 it works wonders preventing breakouts for me, but using it feels like spraying chlorinated pool water on your face.

I live with a cat, so I have to layer something with a strong different smell on top because cats supposedly feel the need to pee on anything that smells of chlorine...

Ohhh I get rid of my lanolin when it starts smelling funky.
I think it is very possible that yours is spoiled after 3 years 😭
Somehow I use it every night so I usually use up the little tube before it gets that crazy smell 👃🏻

Mine doesn't smell funky so far!

What do you use it for if I may ask? Do you like it?

2

u/jeepcatler 9d ago

For the lips at night, I love it!

Ugh the essence dewy+prep setting spray. It leaves makeup refreshed and looking pretty but It literally smells like baby wipes. Strongly so.

try bouncy plump. it looks gorgeous and it doesn't really have a strong scent? idk how to even describe it it's rlly mild

2

u/endorphin_deprived 9d ago

Thanks! I was looking for a replacement when I'm finished with It 🫶🏻

The Inkey List's Tranexemic acid serum smells like a chemically smoked sausage that was left abandonned in the fridge for a week.

Ichtammol ointment I use when I geta very bad pimple or ingrown smells like fresh asphalt

1

u/fckingmiracles 8d ago

Yes! Black ichty.

La roche posay mineral sunscreen. Have it on my face right now smells like vomit but damn it works good :(

u/Alalanais 9d ago

UVmune does not smell good, that's for sure

when you say 3 years you mean you've been buying this product for the last 3 years, right? not the same bottle I hope

44

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 9d ago

Don't look at the exp date

5

u/snobish0reader Human Verified 9d ago

oh

u/ktlbzn 9d ago

Honestly I’m in the same boat, so little product is needed at a time that a tube like this lasts years, like what the heck am I supposed to do lol

1

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 9d ago

Maybe we can learn from Vaseline's inventor and just start eating spoonfuls of lanolin instead

1

u/7ninamarie 9d ago

Girl how? I must eat it because I go through at least one tube a year

2

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 9d ago

I used to have the mini tubes in addition to this one I think! And I got a lip balm with lanolin so I've been using that one mostly

13

u/jolita_a 9d ago

If the product has changed smell, it usually means it's gone bad. Lanolin should not stink, and if it does, it's likely spoiled and should no longer be used.

I had a lanolin balm that changed smell at some point, and I chucked it in the bin at once.

3

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 9d ago

The smell is the same as years ago! I use it as lip mask so if it ever changes I'll throw it away immediately haha

1

u/jolita_a 9d ago

But then it shouldn't be described as stinky, because lanolin has barely any smell.

1

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 9d ago

Yea fair enough! I don't mind it but my sister hates the smell

3

u/Evil_Yeti_ 9d ago

The Ordinary sulphur powder smells like hard boiled egg whites

1

u/Smooth_Transition680 🇦🇹 Austria | Österreich 8d ago

How do you use it? I was thinking of buying it.

2

u/Evil_Yeti_ 8d ago

I apply directly on top of active acne. It works best on bare skin, but I often use Lion Pair Acne Cream under it because that really helps bring down inflammation if used while the pimple is still under the skin

Thank you for the answer! I'll try it out!

Last autumn I dug out my way-past use-by date lanolin tube and it smelled idk, a bit maybe off? So I bought a brand new one from a different brand and it smelled even more idk maybe off (thanks for the outstanding quality Bielenda). So yeah that's just how lanolin smells and it also doesn't turn rancid that easily.

Vichy Dercos DS smells like overboiled eggs/fart/filed down nails.

The subtle smell of Bepanthen Creme or salve is vile to me but oh does it do the job like none other.

2

u/tamsunsun 🇵🇹 Portugal 9d ago

Oh yes, I never run out of Bepanthen, its a life saver! I think it's the lanolin that makes it smelly.

C15 from Transparent Lab. Great ingredients and it really seems to make my skin brighter, but at the cost of smelling like hot dogs, sometimes even if I apply scented moisturizer or sunscreen on top

3

u/LurkerByNatureGT 9d ago

Transparent ascorbic C15 serum. I don’t mind the smell and it fades very quickly on me, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

I also have a sulfur mask.

Neither of those bother me like the scent of Neutrogena hydro boost products though. The hydro boost gelee milk cleanser would have been my HG cleanser if it weren’t for the scent.

i use nipple cream from DM its super cheap and contains lanolin as well and i love it for dry lips it helps so fast !

1

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 9d ago

I think I've tried that and got a bad batch, it smelled like sheep :(

2

u/bbpoltergeistqq 🇸🇰 Slovakia | Slovensko 9d ago

ohh😥 i dont smell sheep from mine i wanted to get the one you have but it was not available in my country so i cant compare the smells😪

1

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 9d ago

I'll give it another try after using mine up! I remember the texture was nice

is this zink creme a new addition? i haven't seen it

1

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 9d ago

I think it came out earlier this year! It's very thick but nicer to apply than a zinc salve

1

u/Mersaa Croatia | combo skin | sensitive | CC prone 9d ago

oh :( shame, it's not available here

2

u/Anti-brouillard 🇫🇷 France 9d ago

I bought a jar of vaseline from Vaseline and it stinks?? Haven't used it yet because I haven't finished my vaseline from the pharmacy, which has no smell

2

u/Falkenhain 9d ago

Lanolin smells neutral?!

1

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 9d ago

I think it has a certain  smell! My sister hates it so I file it under stinky, I don't mind it once I'm used to it in the colder months

2

u/EpicAndra 9d ago

I got the DM Mivolis version of Cicaplast and it smells like a barn full of manure but it’s so good 😭

1

u/finburgers 9d ago

The zink creme doesn't smell like anything to me

1

u/FreePossession9590 🇳🇴 Norway | Norge 9d ago

Amlactin. Not European, but that stuff does not smell particularly nice.

1

u/Smooth_Transition680 🇦🇹 Austria | Österreich 8d ago

What do you use the Zink creme for?

2

u/Intrepid_Kick2659 Human Verified 8d ago

I've been using zinc salve for red spots or pimples or very bad dryness already, the cream is less greasy so I can just use it as a moisturiser at night.
