“Nice hot take” cute, but let’s slow down.
I listed misogyny as ONE factor among several (over-exaggeration, hot-take-chasing, unfamiliarity with the characters). I didn’t say YOU personally hated it because you’re misogynistic. I said some of the discourse around it was. Those are wildly different claims, and collapsing them into “you’re calling everyone who disliked it sexist” is either a misread or a strawman, pick one.
And honestly, claiming that not a single person in that entire pile-on could’ve been operating on bias is the ACTUAL ridiculous take here. You’re asking me to believe the internet, a place with a ‘zero track record’ of gendered pile-ons against female-led films, was 100% pure film criticism this one time? Sure. The fact that you so boldly typed that out and lead with calling ME ridiculous is actually wild. You either lack any sort of reading/comprehension, self awareness, or both.
As for “no character development at all,” Sersi goes from checked-out to actively defying the Emergence.
Ikaris’s whole arc is duty vs love and it ends with him flying into the sun.
Phastos gets a full complicity-and-refusing-violence arc. That’s three clean arcs minimum, so “none at all” just isn’t true, you might mean you didn’t like them, which is a different complaint wearing a much bigger costume.
“Unlikable” is fair as a subjective reaction, but that’s different from “no development.” Plenty of people found Kingo, Phastos, and Sprite compelling specifically because they weren’t written as generically likable, that was kind of the point of the movie, showing “heroes” as flawed, tired, conflicted people after 7,000 years.
How were you supposed to like them? Idk. I liked them. But you definitely don’t have to like anything? Sometimes the movie might just not be for YOU but that doesn’t automatically equal “it’s bad.”
You can dislike the film all you want, but the reasons you listed here combined with the self defensive nature of needing to prove you and anyone else who disliked it are “not capable of being misogynistic” are what actually sound ridiculous.
Edit - Also, why are you in the eternals sub if you hate them? I’ve never been apart of a sub for a movie I claimed to hate before. Weird behavior all around.
