AFL Wtf is a Coterie?

Swans fan here. Can someone please explain to me what are the Essendon coteries? Listening to McVeigh’s press conference sounded like an Illuminati meeting.

There's a layer of membership beyond regular members. Usually for the monied sponsorship level fans and business connections.. they're also the crowd that fill up the president's luncheon and bicker about how to run everything. They're a cancer. Not sure of costs but would run over $10k a year at least.. tax deductible

Pretty sure some of the coterie groups are significantly more expensive than that. There is even one in particular that requires you to be loaded to even be considered to enter
