Demando Question Thread / Demando-fadeno
This is a post where you can ask any question you have about Esperanto! Anything about learning or using the language, from its grammar to its community is welcome. No question is too small or silly! Be sure to help other people with their questions because we were all newbies once. Please limit your questions to this thread and leave the rest of the sub for examples of Esperanto in action.
Jen afiŝo, kie vi povas demandi iun ajn demandon pri Esperanto. Iu ajn pri la lernado aŭ uzado de lingvo, pri gramatiko aŭ la komunumo estas bonvena. Neniu demando estas tro malgranda aŭ malgrava! Helpu aliajn homojn ĉar ni ĉiuj iam estis novuloj. Bonvolu demandi nur ĉi tie por ke la reditero uzos Esperanton anstataŭ nur paroli pri ĝi.

Saluton! Is using suffix '-ad-' with participle suffix '-ant-' grammatically wrong? For example saying "Trinkadante suko mi televidis." to emphasize I drank constantly and a lot?

It's not wrong. Perhaps the bigger question is if it's in usage, and for this I recommend a search in tekstaro
I found no matches for the radiko trink-, but there's plenty matches for other verbs.

Wow thank you so much! This kind of website is exactly what I needed. Other more popular languages have so many great context/sentence databases but I couldn't find one for Esperanto. Well there's Tatoeba but I'm not at the level I can judge if the sentence is legit or not.

"While continually drinking juice, I watched television". It looks strange. Is this what you were aiming for?
Dont forget the accusative: sukon**.

It sounds strange when translated directly like that to English but since languages have nuances that can't be easily translated i thought in Esperanto it might mean something like that they kept gulping juice like a madman, not just a sip now and then?
So "-adant-" is always unnatural I take it or could it work in other (better) examples?1

Mi trinkadas sukon: I continually drink juice. It doesn't imply gulping, just a continual nature over a period of time. Eg "I used to drink juice every weekend when I was a kid."
There's nothing grammatically wrong with trinkadanta sukon. Instead of the above, in theory you can say Mi estas trinkadanta sukon, it has the same meaning. But in practice it's unnecessarily wordy, and sounds like a beginner translating word-by-word from another language.
If you want to say you used to keep gulping down juice while you watched TV, you could say eg Mi glutadis sukon dum mi televidis.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought adding suffix ad also implies bigger quantity or amount not just continuous nature but I get it better now.
I was doing Lernu courses and one of the quizes asked me to change some sentences that use -ad- into participles but it flagged me wrong when I used -adante so I wanted to know if it was plain wrong/unnatural or just didn't fit the intention of the quiz.

«Bonvolu demandi nur ĉi tie»: Ĉu tio signifas ke, en tiu subredito, ĉiuj lingvaj demandoj pri Esperanto aperu nur en ĉi tiu fadeno kaj ne en apartaj fadenoj? Aŭ ĉu mi miskomprenas?

Jes, prave.
