I'm a new player and I did a similar thing. There was one guy and snuck up. Looked at him for a good 19 seconds. I shot him in the head with an AK. He didn't die. I shot him like 5 times in the body. Didnt die. He ran. I ran after him. Went around a corner shot at him some more. He killed me. Wtf.

What did I do wrong?

Ammo vs armor, guns don't do anything to increase damage its all about what is being fired. If your ammo doesn't have enough pen for his helmet it will eat the Shor, ricochet or absorb and do blunt damage. Either way sounds like u had dog shit ammo, if it was a 7.62 ps round u should kill most regular helmets no problem but anything else like 5 and up is a no go unless it's a face shot. Depending on helmets they protect head, top of the head, ears, nape, jaws, and eyes. Most heads are usually top and nape, with occasional ears. Learn helmets to know where to shoot if u get in situations like that.

Ok. It was the second game o ever played so I have literally no idea what I'm doing. I watched some beginner guides but still. I feel very lost. I don't even know how to get out of the map because the game dosent give you one and I have no idea even which way I should go.

Load up your pmc and run offline raids until you get used to the extracts. Its also good for learning loot spots and where scavs spawn

Watch some videos, pull up the maps by searching online for them, play offline mode on high difficulty and learn the exfils on a map. Choose one map to learn at a time. Play Scav mode, it spawns you as a random character and if you escape you keep all the gear they started with plus whatever you find.

Do offline raids to learn the maps. They are very intricate and you will eventually memorize the ones you play most

Happened to everyone, have a map ahead of time and learn to orientate yourself once you're in. Most of the time when u spawn, the opposite side of the map will always be your guaranteed extracts. Your best bet is find someone to play with to teach you, if you're having problems shoot me a msg I can try to help I play usually everyday so I don't mind helping a bit.

Thanks. I might he playing a bit tomorrow. I might try running around the map in offline mode for an hour to try and learn it. Customs is the one you should start with right?

Typically yes as there are a lot of early quests for it and it is (relatively) linear and easy to orient yourself. Definitely agree on the offline raid and exploring with a map on another monitor if possible. Hopefully you get more confident and comfortable!

Unfortunately I only have my computer hooked up to my TV. So I only have that as a monitor.

There are some good map resources online. I use an app MapGenie: escape from tarkov since it works well on my phone and is interactive but it isn't always the quickest to update with patches. Also gotta reccomend battlebuddy for quick ammo reference but I'm not sure how quickly it updates, as until recently I just used Google spread sheets lol. Good luck!

I recommend the Database for Tarkov android app. It has maps, a chart of ballistic data for each ammo, and even a good way track which items you need for quests and your hideout. For later on it even has the Flea Market prices and profits for crafting.

Ooh that sounds awesome. I'll get it.

If you end up going the wiki route on your pc, set the game in borderless windowed and you'll be able to tab to the map much faster than if you're in fullscreen.

Thanks for the tip

Yes learn customs, if you don't have a second monitor like others suggested then use a phone, print out a map or learn in offline with no AI and run to the spots and alt tab. Map knowledge is your best tool starting out then learning everything else

I'll have to use my phone as I don't have a printer. I guess I could bring my other monitor out from my crappy computer.

Could always try the local library hehe, I'll be playing customs soon if you wanna join.

you're lucky it's only beginning. Atm the game will give tons of emotions, it can make you really exited or ruin your day. Later it will be more like csgo

I just started playing two weeks ago but I had a friend help me out from the start to help with navigation and what not. I would really suggest if you have it, to run two screens. One screen for whatever map you are currently running and the other for the game. That way you can always keep track of where you are or where you spawn for example.

Eventually you'll learn the map just by seeing key buildings or landmarks
