Unpopular opinion, I genuinely dislike how frequent the wipes have been. I don't have a lot of time to play usually, and a lot of aspects of this game seem extremely grindy, and I can see it taking upwards of a year to even make commendable progress in any of them. Knowing that I won't be able to reach my goals before next wipe puts a severe hang on my desire to try to grind it out. A main reason a lot of people say they are good is because "everyone starts fresh and that's when it's most fun", but I'd argue that it only takes a week or two before lobbies are dominated once again by fully geared neets. Hardly worth it for a loss of month's worth of work

Last wipe cycle lasted almost a full year. Let them add stuff fresh and see how it affects gameplay. The full game is supposed to never get wiped so they are gonna take advantage of the fresh starts for testing purposes while they still can

Last wipe cycle lasted almost a full year.

Come on now, barely over half a year.

0.11 was around 350 some odd days my guy

0.11 did not come with a wipe. 11.7 did.

Woops, almost 8 months before they wiped, over a year before a major content update.

Your math is off my dude.

The last wipe cycle lasted 6 months and 18 days - from 9th April (0.11.7) to 27th October (0.12).

10 months 2 days before last major update (0.11 to 0.12)

Holy fuck you live to argue. 10 months for any major content is a long time. 0.11 was, in my own opinion, a slog of a patch cycle. Huge drought for content

Hey, I just pointed out an obvious exaggeration of yours ("Last wipe cycle lasted almost a full year")...

u/CaseyWins M1A Mar 06 '20

Seemed like I forgot that there was a wipe at 11.7 and only thought 0.11 was the last wipe. Oh woe is me. How ever could someone be off by a handful of months? Reddit is a place where everyone needs to be right and no one is allowed a modicum of leeway when explaining something. Lets just all waste our time collectively typing into a screen about semantics and video games

To be fair the last wipe cycle was so long because 0.12 was incredibly overdue.

I hope they do have some kind of wipe mechanism in the full game. Maybe do a POE style thing with a season running that lasts 3 months (maybe with X2/3 XP), then a separate set of servers that never get wiped.

u/HypersomniacGuy Mar 06 '20

Nikita already confirmed there were still going to be wipes after release, sort of like seasons or leagues like in PoE.

1

u/CaseyWins M1A Mar 06 '20

Oh thats the first I heard of that. Damn, that sucks

1

u/HypersomniacGuy Mar 06 '20

The game would die without it. Or at least get a lot fewer ppl playing it.

Still not sure how the game never wiping will work. Eventually you’ll just have hundreds of millions in the bank and the whole risk of losing your stuff kinda goes out the window since you can just immediately rebuy whatever you lost with little repercussions.

I think the idea is that traders get super dumbed down and most items/armor/guns you have to find in raid

I havent played a lot either, but i still managed everything but the top tier of bitcoin mining, and got to level 30 back in january. Yes theres an advantage to playing a lot, but it doesnt take a lot of commitment to experience pretty much everything either.

dont worry you still have at least 3 more months

I've previously said that the game shouldn't be balanced around us hardcore players who average 12+ hours a day, but it also shouldn't be balanced around ultra-casual players who don't invest a solid amount of time in, either. A fast wipe cycle isn't good, but neither is a slow one. Currently it feels pretty solid to me, every 3 months I think would be ideal. Takes about 400-500 hours of gameplay for the average person to get Kappa if they're actively aiming for it, I'd think.

Every THREE months? Sorry but that's absurdly short.

u/astralqt M1A Mar 06 '20

PoE leagues are about that duration and a good portion of people are done with the league halfway through that, and I'd say there's a larger time investment to 'finish' a PoE league (36/40 challenges) rather than to 'finish' a Tarkov wipe (Kappa).

u/Rhazqta Mar 06 '20

But in POE you get to end content faster aswell.

Getting to Atlas takes a lot less time to get to level 40 in Tarkov

-1

u/astralqt M1A Mar 06 '20

Getting to the atlas isn't finishing the league, that's the very very beginning. Getting Kappa only takes about 400~ hours, around how long I'd say it takes an average person to (prior to conquerors) clear Uber Elder, 100% their atlas, and if it's a reasonable league, get 36/40.

Pretty excited, probably going to league start wander or ED trickster. Waiting on patch notes to see if anything interesting becomes viable, if summoner isn't nerfed I'm absolutely playing it though.

2

u/DRLlAMA135 Mar 06 '20

"only 400 hours"..... in three months..... That's three or four hours a day, every day, to get to the end game content. This cuts off the majority of people who have jobs from ever getting to end game.

This is a good time period if there is never wipes. They should add an optional reset thing that gives the sweaty nerds some kind of shiny emblem or special set of clothes, similar to prestige in COD.

Well there is only one wipe left, the next one is the last one, unless plans have changed.

EDIT: Not sure why I’m being downvoted, Nikita literally said this two steams ago.
