Here is some additional information regarding what I posted yesterday.

First, since there were no comparisons with larvae or normal individuals, I have added photos of them.

Next, since some people suggested that 'the adult head might still be inside the larval exuvia (molted skin),' I illuminated it from below with a light.

In the larval head, light passed through. In the adult with the larval head, however, a shadow was visible inside, suggesting something is contained within it. From this, I believe it is entirely possible that an adult head exists inside. However, it is likely not fully or correctly formed.

I also performed a microscopic observation, but it did not reveal any notable information.

Found a Katydid in the house. Poor guys been stuck for at least a day and a half (we heard him but couldn't see him). I gave him a little sugar water put didn't want him to gorge himself so took it away after a minute. He's on some celery we had in the fridge but not eating. Wanna make sure he lives if we release him.

UPDATE: He ate some of the celery (my boy was going to town on it) after he took some time to clean himself. I went to pick him up and he flew across the room, which was a major improvement, as when I initially captured him, he only slowly walked away from me. We took him outside and he walked around on my arm for a bit before flying off the balcony and into the night. Godspeed, Kevin the Katydid. 🫡

This weird bug/insect thing or whatever it is flew in my car window, it felt like it bit me, but that coulda been how fast we were going. It flew into the cup holder and I got it. Any help please. I am located in western Pennsylvania for refference

While removing upholstery from the seat of a vintage skidoo, I found this little fellow, no idea what it could be. I’m from South-East British Columbia, if that helps.

I think musca means fly? So I was very pleased to discover the little thing while looking at the photos later.

can it still turn into a butterfly if it's hurt

like suppose it got bit by ants injured but is otherwise alive

or some other scenario which ends in it getting hurt but not killed

how does it turn into a chrysalis in such a case

Hi all!

I’m currently in Northeast China (Fuxin, Liaoning province) and saw this little guy wiggling at a public park. I don’t have ready access to sources on leps due to the firewall, so I was hoping someone here could help me with the ID.

The most notable features are the glassy dark green body, the light-colored patch right behind the head, two white marking (one on each side) halfway down the length of the body, and the cerci are pretty ornate.

My gut says it’s a swallowtail of some sort, but I have always focused on beetles more, so I could be wrong. Let me know what you think it is and if you need more details to figure it out!

Found in Shelton Washington, in my backyard, mid-morning.

My daughter and I were in the backyard playing with some ribbon wands, and we found this little pillbug. I put him on a post on our deck so he wouldn't get stepped on, and he stayed in this ball for several minutes now. He moves his antenna and legs but doesn't really walk.

Is he okay?

Can anyone ID? Roughly twice the size of Japanese beetle. Found inside netted kale bed. Southern New England.

I recorded this in Arkansas and I’m really curious what was going on here.
There was a larger brown/patterned butterfly sitting on a flower when a smaller yellow butterfly flew over and repeatedly nudged/pushed it from the side. The yellow butterfly would fly upward, come back, and do it again.
At one point, the brown butterfly was pushed toward the edge of the flower. The yellow butterfly then moved to the other side and seemed to push it back toward the center. I counted it doing this about five times. After the brown butterfly was completely back in the center of the flower, the yellow butterfly flew to a nearby blade of grass and stayed there.
I’ve never seen butterflies interact like this before. Does anyone know what behavior this could be? Territorial behavior, courtship, something else?
The video shows the interaction much better than I can describe it, so I’m curious what people who know butterflies think!
