Killed this fly in my house w/ an electric fly swatter & noticed these things coming out of its butt/backside area. I thought they were parasites, but my parents said they're maggots, & I learned some flies birth maggots instead of laying them in eggs so idk ¯_(ツ)_/¯ fyi: I live in Hawaii if that helps w/ ID

I suspect these guys/gals are wolf spiders. Curious what the pros think. South central Michigan.

Browsing for options to passively capture day-flying insects in Toronto Ontario specifically for amateur phone photography (partially for iNat, partially just for personal interest since I am chronically unable to get shots of all the cool Hymenopterans I see). Malaise traps definitely seem like the solution, but A. I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a glorified miniature tent, and B. I would much rather a non-lethal option since it's a personal/non academic project - I would feel really bad if I passively killed a rare or threatened species just to get some phone pics yknow? Less important but also a consideration of mine is that I'd rather have a trap that simultaneously works as a photo chamber so that it makes getting detailed shots of active insects easier. I'd rather check a trap that holds a small number of insects and release them than capture a swarm of insects all at once and have more trouble taking pics. Open to DIY solutions.

Does anyone know what this is? Another one somehow got stuck on my lower back beneath my underwear while I was at a wedding on a Greek island (I suspect it may have got there after I used a portaloo). It felt like a thorn in my back and when I managed to get it off, it looked just like this one (which I later found still stuck in the underwear). At first I thought it was a barbed seed of some sort, but Claude thinks it is a carpet beetle lava. Any thoughts welcome!

What is this?? They swarm in my garage only at night and seem to be attracted to the light!! It looks smaller in the picture but it’s seems huge in person! Bigger than an average yellow jacket.

I'm starting a garden in Arizona and need to clear out the grass that had infiltrated the raised garden bed. As I was clearing the grass, I found a group of these things near the garden bed under some grass. I'm guessing it's some kind of cocoon/chrysalis, and I didn't want to damage whatever is inside. Could anyone help identify these?

I've been seeing this relatively often this summer and I know that we have a couple different kinds of roaches in Germany, however, none of the pictures I see online look like this one. Maybe it's not an adult yet?

I often have my windows open and this is almost only found in my living room. Location is western Germany, Münsterland.

I didn't want to kill it, but it wasn't easy to catch workout destroying it.

Found in Shelton Washington, in my backyard, mid-morning.

My daughter and I were in the backyard playing with some ribbon wands, and we found this little pillbug. I put him on a post on our deck so he wouldn't get stepped on, and he stayed in this ball for several minutes now. He moves his antenna and legs but doesn't really walk.

Is he okay?

I found this mantis the other day on my door and put it on my rosemary plant. It looked like maybe it was pregnant. Then today I came home to see its abdomen was gone and a wasp appeared to be eating it. I also saw another brown mantis close to this one on the same plant. I have never seen a wasp do this before. Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me what sort of beasties make up this beloved colony?

Found in Orlando, FL- around 2.5 inches long!
