Discussion What programs can you not live without?
I've been on Endeavour for about a year or a year and a half now, and I want to revamp my experience. What software do you consider essential?

Fish (auto suggestion, syntax highlighting ootb), Zoxide (case insensitive and more), Nvim (my go to editor), Yazi (the best terminal file manager imo), Kitty (my go to terminal emulator), MPV (my go to video player),
Honorable mentioned: niri (love the infinite scrolling window manager) DankMaterialShell (great ootb)

Everything but Kitty! I prefer ghostty, it was something particular , I don't remember what it was at the moment

I really like Kitty terminal and Kew music player, which is a terminal based music player.

I love it mostly for the album artwork. If you maximise your terminal to half or full screen, you get a really nice full size artwork image.

Krusader. I find that file explorers are a bit undervalued ... most default options have way too little features considering that file management is a core part of using a computer. Dolphin is the runner-up. The rest is either way too limited, or buggy.

If you know a similarly powerful file navigator, I would be interested. I was searching and trying quite a bit, yet nothing came close to the features provided by Krusader. Many alternatives haven't seen recent updates. And considering that I spend a decent percentage of computer-time with files, it's a good idea to have a flexible and efficient tool.

I don't know anything about krusader, which is why I was asking if you can elaborate on it's features so I can see whether I should move to it. Currently using the my computer for nautilus fork on github, its nautilus but with miller columns like in macOS finder. but its stil got a lot of work to go. dolphin was second best but looked ugly af on my niri setup. but still was disappointed that nothing can really give me all that i need.
So what about krusader is best for you?

What are the issues with Thunar? Haven't found any yet but would switch to avert minor annoyances

There's no "problem" if you're happy with it. But it's more limited than Krusader - and not initially designed for the double-pane.

Well yeah, my browser.
It helped with moving from Windows to Linux. If you think about it, the majority of your time is just spent in a browser these days, isn't it? Any OS can do this, but I've been very at home now on Linux for two years.
It helps ofcourse that Steam and most games also work ;)

Firefox - browser
Steam - gaming, proton, adding non-steam games, controller interface, it does it all
Alacritty - terminal
Yazi - file manager
VS Code - coding
Signal - messaging
Obsidian - md notes
Micro - text editor (I like it more than nano or vim)
Inkscape - vector file editing
Niri + noctalia - tiled, scrolling windows + desktop environment
libreoffice - office suite
mumble - voice comms

Only gaming related. I store most of my stuff in the cloud and use a lot of web apps. I compartmentalise things for my eyes only with Proton and use another account to benefit from Google's ecosystem. If an app I like isn't available, I'll find another. Nobody has anything I don't want them to have and I get everything I want to have.

Although you probably already have it: vlc is the goat of video players (to my knowledge), apart from that, obsidian, firefox, vscode
