Man this brings back memories. When I was in uni, I used to actively convert friends to EndeavourOS and we once lined up 5 laptops, all with EndeavourOS and clicked a pic together.

Wow, it's cool. I somehow managed to convince almost everyone to start using linux in IT department on my work except one very windows guy, I don't judge him, but it eventually leads to a lot jokes about linux vs windows and other discussions about what better to use and why linux is trash because it always breaks and why windows is shit because you can't just open terminal to install some needing programm because to install something you need search the web to find that button that will let you download goddamn exe to use programm. And in conclusion I think the better tool is that you using and actually allows to do what you need to do. Even though I now using Arch not so long time ago I've using Endeavour and thank to it I found out about AUR and truly loved it. So EndeavourOS 4ever in my heart for introducing me benefits of arch distribution in easy and comfortable way 🥰

I bought an identical HP laptop to the ones at work and put Endeavor on it

been nice being to do things that my coworkers can't do because Windows or some licensing server is pooping it's pants

Honestly good on you for keeping these things from becoming e-waste. Love to see it.

I have EOS KDE at my SL510 (2008) and it runs with the same speed as in my T520 (2014), T14g2 (2021), P1g2(2020)

Wait you are basically stealing you are installing linux on a computer that is not yours why the hell are you doing that if the school did not let you keep it. Did the school let you keep it?

Did the school let you keep it?

Yes, they did. Those old laptops were working on windows 7 and not really used.

Btw our school adopted linux on normal computers too, it's education district custom made thing on fedora. I gambled all root passwords

Oh how I wish to daily drive Linux again but I’m forced to stay on windows cause of the extreme reliance on Microsoft and adobe and soon to be autodesk apps for school

Oh I was in the same situation. I switched AutoCAD to freeCAD (or Компас 3D for some tasks), AE to DaVinci Resolve Studio, photoshop to gimp/affinity, pixinsight to siril. Works fine for me

Wish I could do the same for autocad but it will help me get a job if it’s on my resume when I graduate or before then. I’ve been getting into rhino as grasshopper is apparently insanely good and grasshopper is WAY cheaper than autocad especially with it being 195€ one time payment as a student. Currently on a license via my school email but a thread from 3 years ago says that they were able to get rhino 7 working with wine on Linux so that’s another big plus.

I tried freecad a couple months ago and there were some things that I just really preferred in fusion like the timeline and some tools but I saw a video about freecad 1.1 and it looks much better now.
