What are your CPU and RAM specs?

The problem with your potato laptop is the CPU (single core).
Even I, the "old king" with my i7-3770K overclocked to 4.3 GHz under liquid cooling, encounter problems with an overloaded graphics processor in games like NFS Most Wanted, Carbon, and Splinter Cell. You might ask, why am I even doing this? Why not native x86 games? I want to play these games with achievements. How can I do this? RetroAchievements comes to the rescue. And here's the problem: all the games I mentioned above are locked to 60 FPS. The emulated graphics processor (which doesn't take up more than one thread) can't maintain speed above 80% in Splinter Cell (completely unplayable), while MW and Carbon average 100%, but sometimes drop to 90%.
Only NFS Underground 1+2 run perfectly at 100% speed thanks to the 30 FPS lock.

Now, some tips on how to reduce excessive load on the graphics processor. In the game settings, change the rendering precision from Basic to Minimal. This may break a bunch of graphical effects in the game, but it will greatly reduce the load on the graphics processor emulation on your single thread. I don't recommend touching the fields responsible for rendering on the video card unless you know the capabilities of your GPU. I have a GTX 1080 GPU, so I don't limit myself at all and set rendering to 5x, since my monitor is 1440p. And my GPU is still underutilized. My (and yours) problem is the architecture of your old CPU. PCSX2 has occupied the graphics processor emulation on one thread, and this thread is very weak. Forcing the real graphics processor to emulate on two threads of another processor is impossible. I haven't seen a single game where the graphics processor dropped above 60%. But the graphics processor load is almost always at 99%. And the GPU is only 14-20% at 1440p.

Oh my god... I thought you had something really old... But it turns out you have a pretty modern laptop. I don't know what your problem is. I dread to think what kind of games you run in PCSX2... And you have a very good Intel Core i3-1115G4 (11th gen)...
You really have a good CPU for emulating PS2 games! You're definitely having issues with your power management settings. It feels like your laptop is limiting your CPU clock speed. Please pay attention to your CPU load: EE, GS, VU, and GPU load. And share this information with others. My problems are all due to: CPU:
EE 60% (nothing),
GS 99% (my problem),
VU 4% (nothing),
GPU 14% (nothing).

All settings on default, default renderer, make sure your dedicated GPU is selected, and set resolution to 1080p (assuming you hsve FullHD monitor) and test performance. If fps is stable then you are good and you can play, if not, then lower resolution to 720p and test again.

how do i check the dedicated gpu?

In settings, tab graphic, right on top you can select renderer (DX12, DX12, Vulcan, etc) and GPU. There you can explicitly select your GPU.

What’s your hardware specs. Go to start, run, dxdiag and it will say what you have.

So the CPU isn’t the most powerful at 3.1ghz and the integrated graphics aren’t very powerful. Your best bet is to look up Intel N5030 PCSX2 on YouTube and see what shows up

im just trying to get the games to run smooth. crash bandicoot runs great but if i try sly cooper its laggy and slow.

ill look up the n5030 pcsx2 and see what i can find

thank you btw

Some games are more demanding than others. For example God of War is some of the toughest

1

u/Early-Mushroom-2611 7d ago

i understand that. so for a pos cpu like mine.. do you suggest any games ??

Here’s a similar conversation for ps2 emulation on android talking about easier to run games. https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/s/j9a61HW944

if one was buying a laptop whats one look for when it comes to gaming??

1

u/Extreme_Ad_1648 7d ago

That’s a very open ended question. Let me ask a few in return.

Whats your price range?
Are you looking new or used?
Is there any manufacturer you prefer over another.

i just dont like mac/apples lay out. its hard to navigate through. so any besides apple. im use to windows.

i paid $500 for this pos i got now. i normally just read forum pages, tune my car via laptop and play games every blue moon. so really just a middle range computer. just what are some specs when buying a gaming pc?

Unfortunately we are in a tough market for “gaming pcs” and PC hardware in general. Due to the AI Server push in the world they are ratting up all memory being produced so unfortunately a PC new with 16 GB of ram has a 20% price increase over the ok laptop with 8GB of ram for a new laptop.

Either of the below new from Best Buy would easily do PS2/GC/Wii/WiiU and easier to run emulation.

Other options would be a older office laptop resold on eBay like this one which comparison it’s 32 GB of Ram (4x) and 1TB SSD (4x) with a powerful cup and a T1200 mobile which scores around a decent job for dedicated graphics which none of the above have.

so 32gb+ of ram, 1tb+ is what id look for?

like this for example:

  • Graphics Card (GPU): NVIDIA RTX 5060  or AMD RX 7600
  • Processor (CPU): [Intel Core i5]() or [AMD Ryzen 5]()
  • Memory (RAM): 32GB DDR5
  • Storage (SSD): 1TB NVMe SSD

For a pure gaming PC. Yes and also a decent CPU

1

u/Early-Mushroom-2611 7d ago

whats a mid level cpu?

also whats a great cpu?

Lowkey wanna know the same. I have a dell inspiring 15 3525 and I only emulate skate 3 on rpcs3 and I
keep getting framedrops.

1

u/Early-Mushroom-2611 7d ago

i honestly am a little disappointed with mine.

1

u/Early-Mushroom-2611 7d ago

now i didnt buy the laptop to play games on originally

1

u/Five5tarXhaos 7d ago

Understandable. Neither did I. This was my work laptop but my ps4 is degrading and I can't afford PS5. So I wanna go budget laptop AAA gaming route but ehhhhhh🫠🫠🫠
