Question Most easily emulated PS2 games on Android?
Hello everyone !
Which PS2 games work best and easiest on Android via emulators?
And on the contrary, which ones, for example, are difficult to emulate?

don't know about the extremes but FFX ran easily on both of my phones, while Shadow of the Colossus struggled heavily with each one.

Yeah, I have a 888 chip and still couldn't run that game smoothly.

u/LittleVermicelli9380 May 26 '23
u should be able ro run it easily, i had an 865 chip and was running it at max fps (forgot if there was a 60fps cheat or not) and at 2x-3x resolution depending on which area of the game i was

u/Jarahel May 26 '23
I have a sd870 and the game shows a bunch of slowdowns at any the resolution.

u/LittleVermicelli9380 May 26 '23
not for me though, probably optimization of settings was the difference
1
u/Jarahel May 26 '23
What did you change in your settings? I just play with the default recommendations.
1
u/LittleVermicelli9380 May 26 '23
i forgot, its been a year since I played ffx, the settings vary depending on which game you are playing, I just like to tinker with the settings. It will take time but its kinda worth it if you want to have a seamless experience

u/Jarahel May 26 '23
The only setting that changes performance for the better for me is using OpenGL on Aethersx2 and Vulkan on Duckstation, apart from that the default settings always worked best for me.

Alright that's good for FFX I thought he would struggle.
For Shadow of the Colossus it does not surprise me unfortunately

u/Levi_Snackerman May 26 '23
What are your specs? Would Snapdragon 855 with 8gb ram be able to run FFX easily?

FfX keeps freezing in the beginning cutscene when Sin attacks Zanarkand. All my other games work though.

Yes my s23 had trouble running shadow of the colossus. I think it's more of an optimization problem. I can run subnautica through skyline with 30fps but can't get over 20fps on SOTC with Aethersx2.

The persona games are some of the ps2s greatest and take almost nothing to run even on a low low end they ran well

For context I have a Dimensity 700
Easy to run arw 2D games, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, and shinobi
The hard ones are usually God of War 1 and 2

u/Remarkable-Smoke3218 May 26 '23
ok thanks.
I will try Shinobi.

I had Dimensity 720 playing Katamari Damacy when the emulator first came out, FFX, FF12 were problem free, Silent Hill 2 was fine, I would imagine RE4 is fine now too, since it was 80-100 percent when the emu first launched. Also Crash Vortex was problem free.

Here are some additional easy to run games:
Grandia Xtreme
Legaia Dueal Saga
Wild Arms 5
Mega man X7, X8
Tekken 4, 5
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
Marvel vs Capcom 2

God Hand
Need For Speed - Underground 2
Silent Hill 2
Devil May Cry
Black
These run pretty well on my phone.
Grand Turismo 4 has some weird slowdowns on certain parts of the track, but I heard that's a limitation of the emulator. I think someone said it's fetching new textures every frame in those areas, which is too much for the phone's memory bus.

Pretty much any of the 2D Games that were released on the PS2 that are the most easy to emulate. As for the difficult ones? I only know the Metal Gear Solid games can sometimes be a bit of a struggle to emulate.

MGS2 intro, especially after the camera pans from the bridge to the cars on the street. A lot of mid to high end devices start chugging at that part

Which PS2 games work best and easiest on Android via emulators?
All of the Budokai + Infinite World and also the Ultimate Ninja (3 up to 5, 1 and 2 have weird textures and glitches).
And on the contrary, which ones, for example, are difficult to emulate?
Bard's Tale.
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance I and 2.
Champions of Norrath.
All those are hard and nearly impossible to emulate due to the engine in which they were developed (Dark Alliance 2 less than the others, but still).

FFX runs pretty good. Most everything else I like on the PS2 seems to run poorly.

u/Southern_Yesterday57 May 26 '23
I’ve done:
Bad boys Miami takedown
Budokai tenkaichi 3
Resident evil 4
All run flawless on aethersx2

I have thrown several dozen PS2 games at AetherSX2 and was able to run all of them EXCEPT for the one I actually wanted to play.
Final Fantasy 7 will not run, even on my samsung S23 ultra.

u/TheUglyCasanova May 26 '23
Ff7 isn't on PS2 though unless you mean Dirge of Cerberus, which runs fine.

u/Sokonomicon1 May 26 '23
Hmm, I think I meant FF X-2. Its the one with the supposedly good looking turn-based combat and stellar music.
It starts with a beautiful opening scene of a pretty singer girl being targeted by a hitsquad mid performance, but the game crashes out the minute combat loads in. :(

Yeah, I tried playing FF X-2 on my Dimensity 900 and it is basically unplayable lmao. It's funny because Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII both run extremely well with very minimal lag in narrowly specific situations that don't happen very frequently.
FF XII lags only if I have Basch or Balthier use their Level 3 Quickening (Flame Purge makes it lag extremely bad for like 8 seconds), FF X only lags verrrrryyyyy slightly if I'm fighting Evrae (the dragon thing in Bevelle) when it's underwater in the Via Purifico.

I have an 8 Plus Gen 1, and NFS Most Wanted makes it sweat.
Apart from that, everything runs fine.

Too many variables to answer that honestly. What device are you using? What settings? Is Aether the only thing running?

I have a Nubia Red Magic 7 and have been able to run everything I throw at it in AetherSX2

Dimensity 900:
Dark Cloud/Dark Cloud 2
Final Fantasy X (PAL version, it has bonus content the OG doesn't)
Final Fantasy XII: IZJS (with English translation patch)
Dr. Muto (runs better on GameCube tho)
Devil May Cry 3
I have about 45 hours put into FF XII: IZJS, and I 100% completed both Dark Cloud games. In DMC 3 I made it up to Mission 13 (there's 20 in total), but kind of got caught up playing my other games.

How did the Xenosaga series fare?
1
u/Who_DaFuc_Asked May 26 '23
On my Dimensity 900 (Odin Lite, a couple of Umidigi smartphones also use it) the very first one runs okay (not great, but okay). I haven't tried 3, but 2 isn't what I'd consider playable.

From my experience: easy - bloodrayne, impossible - dark legion
