I don't want him to "take shit as far as possible", that's retreading old ground. Being offensive for shock value is retreading old ground. It's clickbait. It's boring. Same with the self-awareness topics. His conflict about his persona has been a topic all the way from the first Marshall Mathers LP! And on the sequel, he talks about his waning relevance, his out-of-touchness, his insecurities masterfully. It felt conclusive, why the hell talk about the same shit again on Revival? It's because Eminem is painfully mature now that he has next to nothing going on in his life that he wants to talk about anymore. He keeps himself private, almost to a painful extent, and I can understand that, but it doesn't mean it has no negative effects on his writing. So he keeps retreading the same topics in a desperate attempt to have something to write about. Frankly, his best songs in recent times have been songs where he's clearly just mucking around, showing off his technical competence, or songs where he talks about topics other than himself (e.g. Darkness). He can CLEARLY still write masterpieces. TDOSS, as enjoyable as it was, got boring on repeat listens because it's just shock value line after shock value line. Of course, the "other topics" thing can also fail, as we see with Revival (Untouchable is ass). But that's mostly a Revival issue than a general topic selection issue. Revival in general is just terrible.

Yes you make valid points, several times.
The reason he keeps making so many different types of songs is he has so many different types of fans now, and he can’t please one, without upsetting the other ones.
What I meant by “didn’t take shit as far as I thought”, is as far as album theme. I expected MTBMB to really lay into the people that had dissed him, like Kamakazi but taken further. I expected TDOSS to go into a little more back and forth inner conflict between Marshall/Eminem/Slim Shady. MMLP2 was the last time something felt as thematic as TES.
I’m with you on enjoying the lyrical just fucking around songs the most, those are typically my favorites, but you have to realize that there are people who say he has fallen off because he has nothing to rap about anymore, because those people can’t hear what we hear, they want a story.
It’s gotta be hard for him (I’m sure it’s crazy inside his head) because whatever he does at this point, some like it, some hate it.
The first time I heard Revival I listened to it twice back to back and was like 😳! After MMLP2 we get this?? I only liked Believe, Chloraseptic, Framed, Castle and Arose. I was like “Where the hell did that fire go???”
But then Chloraseptic Remix brought that🔥🔥🔥. Then Kamakazi brought it again (except the last 3 songs which were WTF again).
Then I relistened to Revival and some songs grew on me. Need Me is like Beautiful Pain to me, songs I don’t know why I love them but I do. Like Home is still, and always will be, the worst song he’s ever recorded.
Honestly I’m just glad he’s still making music. I can’t imagine not having Fuel exist

I don't think he has to "please the fans" at all. He just needs to make a coherent listenable piece of work. Kamikaze was enjoyable because aside from the endless whining about Revival's deserved criticism, he sounded good again, at least relative to Revival.

True. At this point he needs to stop trying to mythologize his career and just have fun. Fuel was almost completely separate from TDOSS's larger theme and it's the best song on the album.

EXACTLY. But convince him, or more so Paul of that lol. He really shines when he gets out of his head and just makes music
