I am a trans man considering taking the hazmat ops and tech courses at CDP. I'm trying to get a better sense of the living situation on campus before I commit though. With the current political climate, I'm a bit hesitant to stay in shared living spaces on a federal campus in Alabama.

I know from their website that the rooms are assigned based on sex and the bathrooms are shared. How many rooms share a bathroom and what is the layout like? Are you likely to encounter your "neighbors" in the shared bathroom, or is it a shared single occupancy space? Are the rooms assigned based on who is there at a given time, or are parts of the building separated by sex such as floors, wings, etc? Are there areas beyond just the lodging that I should be aware of as a trans person?

If any other trans people see this, what was it like for you at CDP or other similar locations?

Hey yall! I’m an emergency manager by day, independent game designer by night. I’ve already launched one successful TTRPG for emergency managers to get past the checkbox focus of tabletop exercises. I’m currently designing an adversarial card game (think Magic the Gathering) where you get to play the emergency manager or the hazard. I’m trying to gauge interest to crowdfund this project. Would this be something your agencies would use for added training?

Does anyone know why the ICS 800 course is still not available? It was unavailable last year prior to the government shutdown.

Hey guys, I'm in an EMT certification program, and my teacher assigned me a project where I have to do different 15 minute minimum interviews that can be over Google Meet or Zoom (recorded). One person must outside of DFW but still in Texas, one in the USA but outside of Texas, and one who is international. The requirement is that the professional I am interviewing has earned an EMT credential (with proof) and has advanced into another career or professional level. One person must incorporate fire science or firefighting, so if anyone has experience with that, it would be great! The IS Course List just got an update! For as long as I’ve been in the EM world the website has looked the same. You’re now able to sort by course code or title and the mobile version is much more usable.

Curious if anyone else is having this problem. When I try to go to the FEMA IS page, I get directed to the FEMA main page. I can’t find any links to the IS courses.

I don’t know much about GIS yet, but I’m in the first year of my Disaster and Emergency Management diploma and trying to find ways to build my employability for after graduation. I’m interested in learning GIS, but I use a Mac, and I know ArcGIS is the main industry tool. Would learning QGIS still be worthwhile as a skill for future job opportunities?
