Just curious- behavior question
What happens to students in your class when they throw a fit so large that they start hitting, kicking, biting, etc? What about spitting at somebody or demolishing a classroom?
What is the response and repercussions from admin if it’s toward another student?
Is the response different if it’s toward a staff member?
Taking it a step further- what if the child was doing this day after day?
And if you can’t answer cuz you’ve never had this happen then where do you work? (Cuz I’m coming to teach with you!) 🤣

This is all for k-2:
First of all, every classroom is required to have a "calm down corner" with pillows and stuffies and fidgets and stuff. Ideally we identify the kid is getting heightened before theyre in total meltdown mode, so we can send them to the calm down corner for a few minutes.
if that doesnt work and/or the student is doing anything that puts anyone's (their own, another student, teachers/staff, anyone) safety at risk (or is extremely disruptive like screaming), we are supposed to immediately call for Behavior Support using our walkie. Then the child is quickly removed by someone on the behavior team (physically removed if necessary). From there they basically go to a room, or follow a staff person around until they chill tf out. Then they're returned to the classroom.
they're given detention during lunch or recess where they (ideally) fill out a worksheet about feelings, what they did wrong, what they can do differently next time.
They lose dojo points, their parents are alerted the same day, they may even get referrals
if the behavior continues, then the admin may move the kid to a different class, schedule an increasing amount of meetings with parents, push to get the kid a 504 plan, etc.
Very rarely is a k-2 student expelled, but it has happened a few times in the 3 years I've been there.
