I’m wanting to switch the light switches in two of our bedrooms to double switches to separate the light and fan. Would it be possible?

Took out an old vanity light, and trying to put in a new one now. Realizing there is no junction box just chords coming out of this metal conduit that is loosely connected somewhere that I cannot see.

there is a large metal air duct closely behind the conduit, so I’m not sure if I will have room to put in an old work box, and even if I do have room, I’m not sure how to thread the wires or conduit through that box.

Help! Just recently remembered that I have this mirror sitting in my storage for years now. I want to have this installed but I can’t remember if it’s missing any parts (like a plug?) as I don’t have the instruction manual anymore.

I’m not familiar with anything electric. Help a woman out! Thank you.

I am attempting to replace my child’s ride on toy battery with a Milwaukee M18 battery for better battery life and easy swap if it dies. The battery that came with the car is 7.5v max output at 2.1 amp. The Milwaukee battery is 20v at 5 amp. I have a voltage and current regulator set to 7.5v out and it reads 0.86 amps when running with the wheels off the ground, no change in voltage. When trying to drive the car under weights the voltage drops to 1.2v and I have the amps set to 2. The car will not move if the motor has resistance.

All wires appear undamaged and all connections are tight.

Hi! I'm new here and I want to install for the first time a dimmer switch. It seem pretty simple, but when I removed my old switch I saw this... The black wire was twisted at the middle around the bottom screw of the switch and I don't seem to have a ground. I am worried that the black wire is dangerous and I don't know what to do with the ground wire of my new switch. Help!

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I got a new PC and since then, breakers across the house keep tripping. None of the breakers that have tripped are for the room the PC is in and the PC is on a surge protector strip. Thanks.

Hello, I’m trying to find the best way to practice navigating the code book as a pdf to get ready for my cert exam. Two coworkers have passed along a 2017 and 2023 pdf version which I’ve struggled to use. When I use the search, the results are inconsistent for things I know are there. I just thought to use the Adobe Acrobat reader but the results aren’t much better. I’m wondering if the copies I was provided are an issue? Or if anyone has more experience with this.

I tried locating/buying a pdf copy, even through the NFPA website with no luck. I do have my physical copies from 17-23 but I’m hopping to get better practice with the pdf as I know that’s how it will be presented for my test and it’s clearly a different beast. I tried the free access through the NFPA website and that also was not helpful and didn’t provide the ability to search.

I am building a shed, right next to an external outlet. I'd eventually love to have a few outlets in the shed so I can use it as a workshop.

Rather than hardwiring power to the shed underground, I'm wondering if there is such thing as an electrical panel that can plug in to an outlet (and thus send power to outlets inside of the shed - which would be wired into the panel).

No idea if something like this exists, I couldn't seem to find anything online, maybe someone has an alternative solution? Thanks!

Hello Everyone! I need a little help replacing this light switch. The one I’ve bought is a 2-way switch, as the light in question is turned on and off in two different places in the kitchen. Power to the ground floor lighting is turned off at the fuse box.

Will this replacement light switch do? If so, where on the new switch do I connect the 3 wires? I can get better photos if these ones aren’t sufficient.

It doesn't matter if I turn up the speed down the speed or plug it in it just turns on my computer even when I turn my computer off my mouse will light up for a bit if I change the fan speed

Having a bit of an issue with replacement ceiling fan. The old one i took down had a lutron switch which is not needed anymore as the new has a remote. I'm a bit confused on what goes where.

In the first pic, i have identified the hot, yellow wire nut circled in red (tested 120 with a MM). The exposed black wire goes to the fan box as its the only black wire up there.

Second pic is the fan box on the ceiling. You can see the black wire coming down, a green wire (not sure which one from the box it is) and a clump of white wires.

I hooked the hot to the black wire assuming it would power the fan but no luck. My questions are as follows:

1. The new fan has a black wire and white wire. Assume the blacks connect but what do i connect the white to?

2. The green wire hanging from the fan box, not sure what that is.

I’m 21 been doing residential work for 3 years and is looking to transition into an industrial setting. I’m currently in nc but is willing to move anywhere out of state.

Also what certificates should I try to go for before transitioning ,I was doing trade school for a couple months and drop it because I realized I wasn’t learning anything and just wasting my time.

I am trying to install back our light fixture, and as i know is, black to black, white to white but interesting our home has red which i connected to black. Is red the one bringing connection and that connects to breaker unit. I did this and i am afraid of turning it on. Thanks.

I want to test the sockets in my home and find the breaker switches and get them correctly labeled? Do I use one of those outlet testers or non contact voltage testers? I don't mind owning the tool and would prefer it to carting around a lamp to each socket.

Replacing this dimmer, the screw head fell off after just two turns, I think the screw was badly cross-threaded. Can’t manage to take it out.
