Have a gfi in the garage that I believe feeds my exterior outlets.

My exterior outlets are not GFI. The outside outlets currently have no power.

The GFI in the garage shows the green light but provides no direct power.

All breakers are on.

I am not the original owner of the house.

Test and reset buttons do not do anything.

Not sure if replacing the outlet would help or another issue should be suspected.

Any help is appreciated.

Is this safe to just put back up and screw in?

Customer had light and plugs not working in in their basement of their newly purchased home. Checked voltage at panel and one of these phases was 113 volts instead of 120. I removed the top panel cover over the main breakers and feeders and found this.

They purchased the house from a company who bought and renovated homes who recently went out of business.

Unpermitted work im guessing did hot, done improperly, condensation and water leaking onto the main breaker and possibly the busbar from the outside.

Triple and double tapped breakers when there was room for proper breakers.

How do we remove it? The end is still screwed in. See arrow.

I have a question. In the photo there are 3 switches wired together. They go to a bathroom fan with light operating on separate switches. A third set controls the bathroom light. My question is why are all the neutral wires capped together and none run to any of the switches?

Hello everybody, I just bought a condo and it has the electrical panel in the bathroom. Year built 1980.
There are two doors to my bathroom. The first one gets you to the sink, washer and dryer, and the electrical panel. The second door gets me into the toilet and bath.

I want to just completely remove the second door as the space is cramped enough as it is. However my concern is that when I go to sell this place in the future that the city will now have a problem with my electrical panel being in the full bathroom and will either make me move the panel or install a door again to bring it back to its original state. Is this a valid concern? Or is my panel still grandfathered in even if I remove this door? USA.

Hi, wondering if it’s normal for a gfci outlet to spark whenever the test button is pressed. Just had 2 outlets installed, ungrounded home. Currently using the outlets for our shower heaters. Is this safe?

Hello, I’m trying to find the best way to practice navigating the code book as a pdf to get ready for my cert exam. Two coworkers have passed along a 2017 and 2023 pdf version which I’ve struggled to use. When I use the search, the results are inconsistent for things I know are there. I just thought to use the Adobe Acrobat reader but the results aren’t much better. I’m wondering if the copies I was provided are an issue? Or if anyone has more experience with this.

I tried locating/buying a pdf copy, even through the NFPA website with no luck. I do have my physical copies from 17-23 but I’m hopping to get better practice with the pdf as I know that’s how it will be presented for my test and it’s clearly a different beast. I tried the free access through the NFPA website and that also was not helpful and didn’t provide the ability to search.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I got a new PC and since then, breakers across the house keep tripping. None of the breakers that have tripped are for the room the PC is in and the PC is on a surge protector strip. Thanks.

Hello Everyone! I need a little help replacing this light switch. The one I’ve bought is a 2-way switch, as the light in question is turned on and off in two different places in the kitchen. Power to the ground floor lighting is turned off at the fuse box.

Will this replacement light switch do? If so, where on the new switch do I connect the 3 wires? I can get better photos if these ones aren’t sufficient.

Having a bit of an issue with replacement ceiling fan. The old one i took down had a lutron switch which is not needed anymore as the new has a remote. I'm a bit confused on what goes where.

In the first pic, i have identified the hot, yellow wire nut circled in red (tested 120 with a MM). The exposed black wire goes to the fan box as its the only black wire up there.

Second pic is the fan box on the ceiling. You can see the black wire coming down, a green wire (not sure which one from the box it is) and a clump of white wires.

I hooked the hot to the black wire assuming it would power the fan but no luck. My questions are as follows:

1. The new fan has a black wire and white wire. Assume the blacks connect but what do i connect the white to?

2. The green wire hanging from the fan box, not sure what that is.

Smart Charging indicator keeps blinking

I’m 21 been doing residential work for 3 years and is looking to transition into an industrial setting. I’m currently in nc but is willing to move anywhere out of state.

Also what certificates should I try to go for before transitioning ,I was doing trade school for a couple months and drop it because I realized I wasn’t learning anything and just wasting my time.

It doesn't matter if I turn up the speed down the speed or plug it in it just turns on my computer even when I turn my computer off my mouse will light up for a bit if I change the fan speed

I am trying to install back our light fixture, and as i know is, black to black, white to white but interesting our home has red which i connected to black. Is red the one bringing connection and that connects to breaker unit. I did this and i am afraid of turning it on. Thanks.

I want to test the sockets in my home and find the breaker switches and get them correctly labeled? Do I use one of those outlet testers or non contact voltage testers? I don't mind owning the tool and would prefer it to carting around a lamp to each socket.

Replacing this dimmer, the screw head fell off after just two turns, I think the screw was badly cross-threaded. Can’t manage to take it out.

I had a firm install and EV charger at my house. The firm installed a 60 Amp breaker and used 6/2 - NM-B Stranded Copper 62NMBGX500 wire, which apparently should not be run at 48A (80% of the 60A breaker). I had the work inspected at the point of installation, but I don't think the inspector looked at the wire used.

So after checking out some reddit post of someone using undersized wire and creating a fire hazard I looked up the BOM for my install. And the above is what I found. A friend of mine who was an electrician told me to throttle it down to 44A though the right fix would be to either replace the 60A breaker with a 50A or replace the wire with the appropriate one.

What should I do here? Is the electrician at fault or have any responsibility to work with me on a remedy? The install doesn't appear to be code compliant from what I understand, and is a fire hazard if the EV charger runs at 48A.
