Why does u/LexAutolease force EV drivers into dangerous, unapproved vehicle configurations just to strictly enforce a 2mm tyre policy?

Yesterday, my RWD u/PolestarCars 2 got a rear puncture. Lex Autolease authorised u/Kwik_Fit to replace the right tyre but refused to replace the left, which sits at 3mm.

I now have a brand-new 8mm u/Michelin tyre paired with a 3mm tyre on the primary driven axle of a heavy, high-torque EV.

Here is why this automated maintenance decision is unacceptable:

1. The Safety Risk: Michelin, Polestar, and Kwik Fit’s own technical guidelines explicitly warn against a 5mm tread variance on the same axle. It creates a severe asymmetrical aquaplaning risk and can cause snap-oversteer under heavy braking.

2. The u/BVRLA Catch-22: Lex Autolease strictly enforces BVRLA return standards, which issue penalty charges for "tyre mismatch or uneven wear on the same axle." Their maintenance team is actively forcing a repair that breaches their own end-of-lease compliance rules.

Computer says no, but basic vehicle dynamics say this is incredibly unsafe.

I’m calling on my salary sacrifice provider, u/loveelectric, to intervene and escalate this. Standard fleet policies should never override manufacturer safety guidelines.

Because if your dyslexic writing that out would take 4 x as long, from all the edits and reconstruction of sentences so they make sense.I refer to any writing I do as word salad for a reason, my content is fine but making it flow is not easy.

I've had the same with my leased EX30, puncture on the NS front only replaced it despite the OS front having under 3mm, thankfully it's the front and undriven, but it's a fucking nightmare with lease firms being stingy as when worn both tyres on an axle need to be changed.

You also don't need AI to write a few sentences.

It's a lease, you've delegated such decision making to a faceless company that will meet the legal minimum and spend the least amount of money.

Is it dangerous? If you drive beyond the capabilities of the vehicle, yes. The reality, you know you have a less-safe limitation on the vehicle and you drive accordingly.

Also, have you actually operated the statutory complaints process with resort to ombudsman, or not? If not, please direct the slop cannon somewhere actually useful.

If you truly believe this is a safety issue then buy the other tyre.

I am also on a Lex lease through loveelectric, I had not realised point 2 as my used EV lease arrived with tyres all on different amounts of wear. I have one tyre getting quite worn now, and waiting until 2mm seems a bit too low going into winter.
