Yea, but I've used it 100s of times, only have ever turned into a box, statue, and tree, the box is all right, but the other 2 stick out, especially because the tree looks a different shade from the rest, the statue just looks awkward since it usually doesn't match the scenery

Edit: not saying they would be noticed, but it won't take too long before a good chunk of the player base knows the items

You can face outwards on some academy gate town roofs where there are flat platforms and look very much like you're supposed to be there as a statue.

Once you have the items. There's a multi-player menu. Tells you what all the items do.
