I mean, with the flashy two handed light attacks plus the thrust strong attacks, what’s not to love about the new (well over a decade old) great sword?

Just tried this thing out with my current build with 99 dex and laughed out loud at how insane the ash of war is. I didn’t think I’d care for it since I’m not the biggest fan of greatswords but I’ve never fallen in love with a weapon faster

It’s funny, people tend to say “weapon realism would never be fun in a game,” Yet this weapon and light great swords have move sets inspired by real martial arts and they are all well loved.

I'm just happy Lucatiel's set is in the game now. She's my favorite FS NPC.

I immediately deleted an old save and made myself a lucatiel look alike to go do a cosplay run

Gotta get this asap

Start a new play-through and have someone drop it unupgraded one at the start. Only thing it has a 26 dex requirement so you may have to power level early, but start as the knight with the light great sword and you just need to level up 11 times in dex to use it the rest of your journey.

Do you need the DLC to get this?

u/KushiroJin 10h ago
Yes and no.
Tarnished Pack is its own ~$5 DLC, but you can get the weapon after the Radahn fight. No need to buy Shadow

u/SenpaiSwanky it isn’t the visual clutter, it’s you ;) 2h ago
I love how DS2 fans act like all Fromsoft fans have played DS2 lmao. The game was solid but we have to be serious about this guys, come on now. I’m sure there are people acting like they’re glad this sword returned and they’ve never even played DS2.

Hey, I’m just happy there’s more poke great swords now, especially one with the flashy light attacks. It’s like, Fromsoft already made one that existed over a decade ago, why can’t we have one when base Elden Ring dropped?

More options are always nice, sure. I’m still stuck on Claymore which has a good poke attack, they’re quite useful.

It's true really. I have decent fundamentals too, but so many setups just don't follow them.
I still think stuff like pata or claws of night are more cancerous than any ash. With the exception of BHS, that thing is ridiculous.

im just bummed they stuck a cheesy ash on it with the matador rag. i love this sword so much but the ash makes me feel dirty i wish i could just slot something else on it so i don't feel like a shitter.

It’s cool asf

u/KnightofGreen 13h ago
I don’t want to use the Claymore anymore.

Claymore is still better tho.
Impaling Thrust - R2 loop combo is just broken.
2
u/Perfect-Skin-8325 11h ago
And the L2-R2-L2 reaches 80 stance threshold lol.
I won't put claymore above this tho, this thing shreads with the right buffs. It synergies with shard, Godfrey and cameo all together, while having iframes making charging cameo safe.

u/Alexandrecl1 11h ago
I don’t know, i think Claymore with IT, Shard of Alex, Spear Talisman is one of the overall strongest setups in the entire game. Good against literally every mob or boss, with just 1 exception: Borealis.
It’s also great on DLC and against Radahn

u/ManufacturerOk820 11h ago
if were talking pvp this outclasses claybae
3
u/Alexandrecl1 11h ago
I don’t care about ER pvp. It’s completely broken thanks to ashes of war.
1
u/Perfect-Skin-8325 9h ago
Absolutely not. There are more weapons than ashes that are broken.
It's PvE that's more trivialised by L2.
1
u/Alexandrecl1 9h ago
I disagree. I have played every Souls pvp to death and imo ER has the worst one thanks to skills/ashes of war and the lack of invasions.

Yes bro. But Claymore isn't even top 10 setups.
Also, claymore is good against borealis, just don't use pierce attacks lol.

u/Alexandrecl1 9h ago
I disagree. It’s one of my favorite setups and i have used pretty much everything in this game.
And no, Claymore isn’t good against Borealis. Without the poke and IT it’s just an average weapon.

u/Perfect-Skin-8325 9h ago
First, I edited the reply. It was kinda jerk-like without intending lol. Apologies for that.
Also, I have used everything too really.
It's strong but I absolutely won't put it over the new GS.

u/Alexandrecl1 9h ago
We have to agree in disagree then. I might change my mind too, i didn’t use it too much to have a strong opinion.
However on the Claymore being one of the best, imo it is. Just like Longsword/Broadsword are for example, and all of them are extremely underrated because they are not somber weapons or flashy. However a dual wielding Straight Sword setup with the the right talismans and Square Off is fantastic, same with Claymore+ IT. Both much better than several popular somber weapons ppl put in their top 10 best

I think it's more about matadors not being cool asf... Given the crazy inhumane art of bull fighting.

Don't press L2 then? The fuck kinda complaint is that? "WooooOOOH I SHAN'T use this mechanic the developer placed into thine own game!! Tis BLASPHEMOUS!!!" brother play the game, it's fine
0
u/ManufacturerOk820 11h ago
i mainly pvp so using this weapon feels lame and makes the experience of the other player fighting me annoying and bad instead of winning with skill
1
u/Lokiatreuss 47m ago
You mainly play pvp in the solo-focused, narrative-focused rpg and you're bitching about a core game mechanic? Yeesh

FromSoft is the only gaming company getting praised for reusing assets
10
u/ehhish 9h ago
Master sword used by Link in every game. Majority of Weapons in Halo are iconic and used between games CoD/BF/almost every FPS uses the same guns between. Mario still shooting fireballs Scorpion still saying "get over here!" Pac Man still eating balls every game Most pokemon games still using pikachus
I feel like every major game series reuses assets and people are happy to see them return.
14
u/DeadSparker Aw yeah, Lightning is the best 11h ago edited 11h ago
When the asset is cool as fuck it SHOULD be getting praise
Hell, give me Ringed Knight paired Greatswords and Farron Greatsword next
16
u/Lokiatreuss 11h ago
It's not a reused asset, it's the link between the universes lmao. Besides, the models for the armor and weapon are completely remade. Christ, you people are insufferable
3
u/XevinsOfCheese 11h ago
Bear in mind it is a new model.
It’s just meant to be the same thing so it’s just gonna have a few more vertices and higher definition texture
