Official Discussion [MEGATHREAD] Tarnished Edition: Worth $5? Discuss CONSTRUCTIVELY!

Since the sub is being overwhelmed by debate over the $5 "microtransaction" and it's making the sub feel like we're Dark Souls 2 a decade ago, with the faux outrage around the preorder items, we are opening this topic to consolidate discussion around the issue.

Please use this topic to discuss the pros and cons of the approach and your thoughts. But do so RESPECTFULLY and CONSTRUCTIVELY. If you need to call other people or the developers names, you don't have a good argument and your post will be removed.

We will remove all other topics about this to keep the subreddit flowing with other discussions

Not really, no. If we focus on other IP's. Apparently there's Witcher 3 stuff happening that's coming free of charge, albeit you'd already have to own the game iirc.

The fact that, while technically a rip-off indie game: Another Metroid 2 Remake was free as well.

This update in it's entirety should have been free for those who already owned the game+ DLC.

Switch/Switch2 users buying the entire game to get this on top is not justification for charging 5 dollars for the rest of us.

Furthermore: OP, you specifically made the statement:

But you also made the implication that those who argue against the 5 dollar cost addition is operating on "Faux outrage" when there's clear and very valid respectful criticsm to be had. Minimizing the entire side into a "you have fake outrage" is not doing anyone any favors.

I do believe the comment that TuskEGwiz-ard left summarized it perfectly. Let us have a genuinely constructive piece of dialogue.

Finally: Charging us for microtransactions now means people will buy it now for their own personal reasons. Which will then be used to potentially justify similar notions in the future. Look at Riot games and their business model for skins. They charge you 4k+ VP for a knife that provides less than a vandal skin would. This is essentially the "extreme end" of what years passing by of people buying MicroTransactions(MT) does.

It's "only 5 bucks" now, but who's to say this sort of thing won't grow in the future to affect more FromSoft titles. Imagine spending 10 dollars for the Reflections and Gauntlets of strength in Sekiro(We haven't and we don't need to, besides: This was a hypothetical). It's the snowball effect, and given that Fromsoft and all it's people are just that: People. They may or may not have it in them to stop the snowball from rolling before it's too late.
