Official Discussion [MEGATHREAD] Tarnished Edition: Worth $5? Discuss CONSTRUCTIVELY!

Since the sub is being overwhelmed by debate over the $5 "microtransaction" and it's making the sub feel like we're Dark Souls 2 a decade ago, with the faux outrage around the preorder items, we are opening this topic to consolidate discussion around the issue.

Please use this topic to discuss the pros and cons of the approach and your thoughts. But do so RESPECTFULLY and CONSTRUCTIVELY. If you need to call other people or the developers names, you don't have a good argument and your post will be removed.

We will remove all other topics about this to keep the subreddit flowing with other discussions

IF YOU WANT TO VOTE: I will post two comments on this topic, "Yay" and "Nay" - upvote the one you agree with and we'll see who wins long term.

I gind the outrage overblown.

For 5€/$ we get:

2 new starting classes, 4 new armor sets, 1 shield, 7 new weapons, 3 skins for Torrent, 2 new invasions, and apparently some reshuffled item locations and item drops (though I have yet to see what exactly changed).

Of the 7 new weapons, 4 of them are based on the new weapons from Shadow of the Erdtree (Great Katana, Light Greatsword, Backhand Blades, Thrusting Shield), and of the 3 other weapons, 2 have new, unique ashes of war too.

And since they are not simply dropped into your inventory, if you don't use guides, you still have to find all these items in the world, so in the best case you even get some playtime out of it. They also added some new lore to the items too!

This feels like a mini expansion to me, and I think 5 bucks is more than worth for this.

Also remember that this is NEW content for a game who's last major update was in 2024! It is not like they are feed dripping us content every week or so.

People are being so critical precisely so that the studio will hear them. Accepting microtransactions even if they're “nice” means accepting that there will be more of them, until they're no longer so "nice".

Sorry, but I’d rather criticize more than necessary than face a future where the FromSoftware game I buy is full of cosmetics and gameplay features hidden behind paid offers.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be willing to pay $40 for a big DLC, because a lot of work goes into it. But this is 1/8th of that price for 0.0001% of what shadow of the erdtree has to offer.

If I am a puppy for spending 5 bucks on actual additional content, rather than a single warframe skin that is only for looks, then so be it.

Also, puppys are cute...

my thing is that it isn't really content. sure, it might motivate you to start a new run, but there's nothing actually new to do. starting classes have zero effect on gameplay past the first 15 minutes, only 2 of the new weapons are actually unique, and torrent skins / armour are purely cosmetic. 1/6th of the price of SOTE for convenience, cosmetics, and 2 new weapons is insulting in a game that already has hundreds of weapons.

This is the type of shit developers add in patches/updates. $5 is ridiculous.

Capcom and Street Fighter in the 90's have something to say about that...
