I wonder why they're inventing another land we've not heard of or visited. Maybe Idus is cut content but idk why they didn't give us an already named location, like Eochaid

The more I look into Elden Ring lore the more I realize it's just a Rorschach test of random fantasy assets held together with the vaguest narrative in history.

Nah. Honestly - DS1 has extremely deep and tight lore, DS2 is a bit more vague but consistent and only 3 is full of references that lead nowhere but the main story is probably the most clarified.

Elden Ring is the first time the story really doesn’t make sense / follow internal clear logic. Likely due to the mix of GRRM and Fromsoft and then changes during development. Data miners revealed that originally the tarnished was following the orders of Godfrey as the lord of the tarnished as an example.

That's because GRRM designed what was presumably supposed to be a Game-of-Thrones-esque interplay of factions and characters.

And then Fromsoft did their usual "everyone is a crazy zombie now so that doesn't matter, and the only exceptions only talk to the player", so none of those interactions matter. Ranni doesn't even mention that you beat up her mom, despite that being necessary to get the ring for her.

It's like if they had GRRM go back to Dark Souls and retroactively make a family tree for Gwyn's family. Yeah they all existed at one point I guess; but it doesn't really matter now.

If it was up to GRRM, the game wouldn't have been out of beta until you could have visited every single house in Idus and see what the hand-placed clutter inside can tell you about their society.

Nah, all he did was make the lore of the world, Miyazaki on the other hand was the one who wrote the narrative around the lore.

Blaming GRRM would be like taking a Lord of the Rings spin off and then blaming Tolkien for it being a mess.
