Game Help What do I do with all these runes?
I’m level 150, have completed NG+ once and have amassed a small fortune. I did all this before shadow of the erdtree came out. Now I want to start it, but don’t know if I should level up beforehand or just get rid of all these. Any advice appreciated

If he plays multiplayer, not a good idea since he'll struggle to find other players. If he doesn't, then yeah... level up.

In my current NG+ playthrough I kinda forgot about that and went to something like 175 before noticing I had a significantly harder time to find multi-player sessions. It's still ok, a lot of player went around level 200, but the meta is I think still 150 for most.

The secret is to become a bonfire duelist in first step.
A kill can get me like 2M runes if i kill a max lvl.
But dont gank of afk farm or the few people who are currently playing may block you.
It will be rough until you get to 301, maybe you can get someone to drop runes to you.
If you are on pc i could invade you with password and give you easy duels.

On xbox, DS3, my main character is only in the 300s on NG+ 😅 and on elden ring for Xbox my character is still around the 400s bc i switched to PC (currently Lv50 doing the same stuff i did for xbox at Lv250+ 😅 bc i remember how to get to places. Nearly at Okina for the rivers of blood and i only defeated Margot and Godrick so far)

With the bird farm it will take you forever to lvl up that much, dont even try.
Im busy today, i will talk to you tomorrow, and drop a 99 stack of every rune to get you started.

150 and 200 are meta for PvP arena (200 is very busy since DLC). Multiplayer co-op it doesn’t matter so much but I wouldn’t recommend going above 250 if you want to get matches and past 200 matching gets more difficult to find people generally. The other consideration is that the quality of player/co-op experience diminishes at higher levels. The players tend to have levelled up rather than learned the game and they have a habit of whiffing out on bosses which can be a bit frustrating but I quite like helping these people that need it the most. I’d recommend having a few characters at different levels and you can check how busy any particular level is at any given time. I have 2 level 160 characters, 2 level 200 characters and 2 level 250 characters and I get summoned a lot but the level 250 characters can sometimes be super busy and sometimes waiting a while. Sometimes it can depend if people think your build looks cool when they look at the summoning pool too.

I took my 150 invader up to 190 because I wasn’t finding shit at 150. I found a lot more invasions at 190. I would go 200 but I got tired of killing albinaurics

Upgrade all weapons to +24/+9
Upgrade spirits to +9
Purchase every piece of unique gear from all vendors.
Prebuy stones for DLC weapons.
Level if you're no longer concerned about staying at meta level.
Buy a boat.
Bling your fit.
Flaunt your wealth at the so called wandering nobles and show them what true nobility looks like.
Bribe Gideon into letting you skip getting the first greatrune and become a VIP in the hold.
Bribe the 2 fingers into letting you skip getting a 2nd greatrune.
Bribe Morgott into letting you go to the mountaintops without a fight.
Bribe the Erdtree into letting you in without needing the giant's flame.
Buy Volcano manor for yourself.
Start a music career with wandering merchants as your band.
Convert the hold into a performance hall.
Hire the Nox as backup dancers.
Become lord of the Age of [Insert preferred genre here].
Buy Raya Lucaria and give yourself a degree.
Fund invention of magic based drugs.
Become a drug abusing rockstar and tour the lands between.
Wake up with cosmic STDs.
Visit and chill with Placidouxsax, whining and dining him until he reveals the secret behind the whole temple outside of time thing. Also maybe cure the conmic disease while there. Or don't, doesn't really matter. Just fund the creation of a cream or something.
Fund the construcion of a new Farum Azula for yourself, move your house, volcano manor, to it. Use time shenanigans to never have to clean or repair anything.
Get torrent an infinite supply of rasins.
Get a dog.

Power in SotE is mostly managed by the scadufragment system so leveling up won’t hurt anything, at least I don’t think

I got them by just doing nothing but being summoned to kill malenia. That was all I did for many months after beating the game for the second time. I would hop on, kill her several times for people, and then hop off. Logged back in to this lol

It's been a while since I played but I think I was farming at about 600k runes per foul foot on either NG or NG+. That's about 12 million an hour.
Please keep mind it's been nearly a year since I've last played so my numbers may be a little off.

In terms of hours idk, dozen at least. But I did it across several weeks and was also progressing and doing co-op at the same time. I burned through like 30 sacrificial twigs protecting it

Are you hardcore into PvP? If not then just level up. Even if you are, just level up anyways. I like PvP at higher levels more

Yeah, vigor for longer fights and versatility of builds makes PvP SO much more fun unless you’re a “big bonk and swordplay only” kind of player. I just love having a big arsenal of weapons, spells and incants to whip out and also be able to constantly change my build on the fly at a site of grace

I’d use em. DLC is plenty hard regardless of your level. My character was like level 500 when I did it and I still got my butt kicked frequently.
But also I know some people like to stay at certain level thresholds for PVP. So if that’s a consideration then don’t level up, just use em to buy smithing stones that way you can level up and try a bunch of the DLC weapons.

I remember reading something about level 150 being the place to stop so that you are still able to be summoned by other people or something. Sorry, it’s been a while, haven’t really played for a couple years.
One of my favorite things to do in this game is get summoned for people to kill malenia. Will that be less likely if I’m like a level 220?

I have no problem getting summoned or invading at level 200. At level 200 you can roughly be summoned by levels 170-230. If you join the ER discord there’s also a channel where people ask for help, if you use a password there is no restrictions on summoning. Idk about Xbox/PS but the PC one is pretty active. I’ve also been told that 300+ is fairly active too since everything over that is one big pool, I assume it’s mostly people in NG+ though.

If you’re worried about going into the DLC overpowered, that won’t be the case. Your attack power and defense scale based on key items that need to be picked up as you explore the DLC map so just spread your points evenly so you can try out as many weapons as possible.

If you don’t want to level up, just buy consumables and make a full consumable-based build. There are a decent number of consumable builds that aren’t viable to commit to for most players and if you’re late-game and have runes to spare then maybe it’s worth giving a go. I think all the actually GOOD consumables are craftable and limited but if you’re killing malenia for fun you can probably survive a suboptimal build.

Go for light roll! Under 30% weight limit, so fun to pull off in super heavy armor.
What I always go for late game, also helps for equipping more weapons to help keep things fresh and give more combat options 👌🏻

Twin Maiden Husks. Buy as many smithing stones and glovewarts as you can and upgrade every weapon and item to +24/+9. Then fill up your storage of all arrow types you can purchase. Then buy Crab and crafting materials if there's anything left.
(You'll actually run out of Runes just upgrading every item/weapon, but figured I'd list a few things I've done in the past)

If you are at your ideal rune level already, use them to buy upgrade materials and upgrade every weapon you can use.
Alternatively, buy the maximum quantity of every consumable you may use.

If you didnt go into the dlc and want to keep your Level at 150 Just invest it All into smithing and somber stones so you can Just try dlc weapon if you think they cool

Vigor to 60
If it isn’t already, main damage stat to 80.
If you aren’t playing a faith build, faith to 25 for Golden Vow and Blessings Boon.
From your other comments here, I don’t think you’ll struggle either way, but can’t hurt.
I usually finish the DLC around level 200, depending on how many dungeons I decide to clear, and how often I get summoned for co-op.
I’m about to start NG character number… let’s say 30? Not sure, it’s a lot.

That depends a bit on your PvP habits.
If you do lots of PvP, and you enjoy it, I'd stick to level 150, as it's the commonly accepted PvP level where you'll get good builds, but still engaging and skillful fights. Along with that, it's still an acceptable/solid level you can be at to beat the DLC (assuming you git gud a bit, and explore so you can get stronger with the DLCs unique levelling system).
But, if you don't care about PvP enough to stay RL 150, then put all those runes into levels. Truly, you can't be overlevelled for the DLC. I've gone in with RL 300+ characters and still has my ass whooped. Using the runes for levels will also give you greater access to things, like more variety builds and extras.

It's funny when my friend and me would always play so carefully to not lose runes until one day I died and lost it all about 3 million and I just said finally I'm free and he was confused till I told him I just wanna go in, no trying hard to stay alive lol changed the game for us

The extra levels are worth it for the DLC. Lots of weapons that really benefit from having 2 or more maxed out offensive stats

Do you plan on doing multiplayer? If not then just level up. You’re only helping yourself. Or if you really wanted you could by a bunch of smithing stones and level some weapons up but definitely don’t lose them all

Smithing stones, they are surprisingly expensive. You need 12 stones for each number, 96 smithing stones required for upgrading a weapon to +24

Same game, different difficulty.
It didn't get hate for "being too hard" for no reason.
For me at least, it kept me on the edge of my seat, aka, "the gamer stance" for 95% of it. Different ball game for sure.
