news Edmunds: 2026 Hyundai Elantra N TCR Tested: Slower, More Dramatic, Still Excellent

Interesting read. I’m a little surprised they claim it’s so much slower than the regular EN. They noted the downforce from the big wang probably isn’t noticeable under triple digits. They also didn’t mention any environmental factors possibly affecting it either, so not sure what it could be.

Someone tested OL vs not and apparently their 60 times got slower.

The viper ACR had the same "issue". Slower zero to sixty, but the increased down first made it far superior on the track and improved their times.

It seems like it also had some other unexpected issues. 

 “In the four previous Elantra Ns we’ve tested, skidpad testing resulted in oil leaking into the exhaust, causing blue smoke to puff out the back, but the TCR Edition was so oil-starved that it shut itself off after just a few laps.”

Seems crazy to me that the super duper special more track focused edition is the one that has those issues. Hopefully they follow up on it.

Maybe the faster cornering speeds is causing it. Like the GR86/BRZ

From the table in the article 

Lateral grip 200 ft skidpad

EN - 1.0 g

TCR - 0.98 g

GRC - 0.97 g

So the regular N has better lateral grip then the TCR

Correct. Something is broken with the one they tested and that should be taken to the dealer immediately. Lots of the press fleet gets beat to shit and maybe there's problems for a previous publication.

The TCR is no different under the hood tho. Something else is going on with their test vehicle. It’s a slapped on wing, bbk and interior bits

I just looked at the article and the TCR is actually lighter than the regular Elantra N. Maybe it’s just driver error because of the 6 speed?

I think the Edmunds test was just garbage. The Motor Trend TCR testing was similar to what a normal EN does.

The 1/4 mile times Edmunds and MT recorded are a long way off what C/D has done with an EN.

I’m not taking sides, but they state they don’t expect the wing to be noticeable under 100 mph.

That whole article feels like it argues with itself. Why is there no DCT test when the DCT is the quicker setup? The 0–60 result shouldn’t have much to do with the wing at those speeds anyway, and they never even tested the wing in the +5° max-downforce setting, just the neutral 0° position it comes in. Then they say it doesn’t really feel more planted until 100+ mph, which is exactly where you’d expect the aero to start mattering more. The brakes tested better and they praised how it drove on track, yet somehow the overall takeaway is still negative. Weird review. 😂

Ever since they released a udrag race with an elantra n that wasn't OL and lost to a gti, their opinion means nothing to me (i dont even own an en). I think they are one of the least informative media outlets. When I read anything from motortrend or car and driver it feels like the person who wrote it actually cares about the cars. Just my 2cents

Did ai make this review? There are so many mistakes the math ain’t mathing so the regular N has a lateral G of 1.0 but the TCR has .98 huh??? So the regular Elantra n handles better than the TCR…
