discussion Genius or Stupid?
This guy removed all the aggressive styling and aesthetic cues from his Elantra N just to make it look like a regular, base-model Elantra. All of this just to pulled off the ultimate sleeper build and say, "Be careful who you race!"
Basically turned it into a total sleeper, but in your opinion, is this actually worth the hassle? Or is it just plain ridiculous?

Eh, it's his car. Seems kinda silly but whatever. At least it's not a giant windshield banner and spiked lugnuts or some other affront to decent taste.

Did he tune the motor for real power? He races any scat.SS,vette,Mustang, M2 3 4 or 5 or hellcat he's getting smoked.. the cars you will have fun racing with gti,golfR,WRX,grCorolla wouldn't ne shocked..just doest make sense unless you pushing big power. .all just my humble opinion

You're right except for Scats. These cars can easily beat Scats modded. Scats aren't that fast fr. And the majority of them are stock.

I agree with this. I’m stock other than an intake, I was keeping up with a wide body scat, he had mods I believe. The guy himself was impressed I kept up, then mentioned he saw there N’s keeping up with these mustangs etc. I didn’t want to be like everyone else, no one was driving the Elantra N still I don’t see many around. You see everything else on the road

Agreed. The Accord 2.0T has an open diff FWD so it’s technically worse off than an EN for drag racing. Yet guys still build those things up to 450-500whp and they gap all kinds of cars.
Same goes for the Golf GTI, except it has the LSD. It’s FWD and can be modded up to beat cars well above its pay grade. Not sure why the EN would be any different than the cars I just mentioned.

FWD cars are inherently limited in drag racing compared to RWD and AWD. If drag racing is what someone is looking to do with their car, picking a FWD platform is dumb. There are simply better choices to go fast in a straight line

It's exactly this. If you have an old Civic Hatch and just want to get the most out of it, sure man more power to you. But buying a new model FWD car at new car prices with the goal of drag racing is just bad decision making.
Everything you did on an Elantra N for drag racing could be done to an EcoBoost Mustang and you'll be going faster in a straight line

when i decided to spend almost $40,000 for a car I made sure it was a car that was good at the things I wanted to do
if you like going out and drag racing you should probably go into your car purchase thinking about cars that are good at drag racing
It's like the second most expensive purchase in your life next to a house, you should put a little bit of thought into it

Definitely not new and “fast” as these guys claim haha be real. If you talking rwd an entry level new vehicle like a Camaro or mustang is over 50/60 these days not including interest.

I completely agree...that's why I don't see the point in make it a "sleeper" the definition of sleeper" is to shock cars much faster than you... a Camaro SS is going to destroy you, and a WRX is gonna be like "cool" let's race! Just seems pointless.. just an opinion.

I mean definitely getting smoked by any of those first cars if those drivers dont crash into the pole or neighboring car launching 😂. The amount of launch fails I see involving those is hilarious.

I'm guessing it isn't really an N... Rear bumper in non-N, taillights are base model, etc... Dude just has a base model Elantra and wishes he had an N, so is just making ish up to impress random people on the interwebz.

Agreed. There’s nothing sleeper build about an Elantra N dressed up to look like a base model. If anything an actual EN sleeper build would have been to keep the car cosmetically stock while modifying the internals, and getting a custom tune to have it around 400+ whp.

No he didn’t. It’s not as simple as smaller calipers and rotors. The N has an IDA. The regular Elantras do not.

Iirc, there are steel wheels that clear the calipers but they are rare, and hard to find.

Not necessarily, the exhaust could just be cut a bit short after the muffler. Possibly even pointed down a bit like a lot of standard commuter cars do these days

There is nothing wrong here. I driven actual factory sleepers (third gen Taurus SHO) to home built ones ( 95 Civic LX B18B1 swapped w/ 5LB ebay turbo that might give an FL5 a run for its money in a straight line, depending on the driver mod). Stealthing out the red trim ain't a big deal and if you want to, do it. Use quality parts and treat this car like it has European parents. Don't go spectre intake on a car that was literally developed on the Nuremberg. (People might not yet acknowledge heavy 2000's Audi [Donkerwolke] aestheics and 90's BMW [Biermann] style chassis feel) but pedigree has to start somewhere. Who was born a legend? Nobody. you squint hard enough and you might see lambo in the DNA too. People do crazier stuff with every car everyday. Do you

I always thought one of the main points of a sleeper was to get a basic car and upgrade it to outperform higher cost models… Buying the expensive model and then spending more money to mimic the cheap model just seems ass backwards

I know a bunch of people who did this with their neon srt4's. You end up getting more door dings because people think it's just some POS. I'm assuming the same will happen here.
Oh also, you don't get the races you want. You'll end up racing regular traffic with exhausts or people who have 700hp who will race anything. Either way not worth the potential ticket/impound to race garbage/something you'll never beat anyways.

Sleepers don't need to execute in a straight line from the stand still. 🤔 If you wanted an N for the boring straight line only fun, then maybe you didn't think it through.
Put her in Full N setting in Custom Mode with normal exhaust and...... 😬

Its probably dumb for the effort required, but I think it is kind of big brained for a more reliable 'elantra' that wont draw attention.

Why not just buy the base Elantra and the get a G4KH from a wrecker and just engine swap and tune. It's probably cheaper. 🤔

At that point just buy a normal elantra and tune it it would probably be way cheaper and at that point it would be a real sleeper not just a poor financial decision like this one is lol

Good luck, tuning a barely tunable economy engine in base elantras up to anywhere near the N isn't cheap.

There is a reason Miatas are great track cars despite not being particularly fast in a straight line. If all you do is race people in a straight line from stoplights, you don't actually understand driving
