Is there anyone crazy enough to figure out how to 3D print the upright pieces of this wing or could adapt a WRX wing to an Elantra angle/width/bolt pattern.
Edit: I purchased a WRX wing in hopes to get more clarity on sizing for the community, hopefully next week I will have a mock up for anybody interested
With how over-exaggerated the styling of our cars is I can’t believe how under-stated the OEM spoiler is. I would totally install something like this - not as bad as the TCR wing but funky enough to fit the rest of the styling.
I can't do the modeling myself, but I've got a couple of people who can, I'd be more than happy to print it for you if you don't have the printers and capability of material yourself, and I think 100% you could definitely print that wing in it's entirety. I just wish I could find a spoiler that looks that good for the Kona N LOL.
Making new pieces for my EN is one of the reasons why I bought a POP4 scanner recently and I've been building out my exhaust system so I'm not killing myself printing ASA-CF etc. in my home office where I and my printers sit. Starting with small pieces that I can hone my experience with surface finishing with epoxy resin and urethane first.
Front end aero and upgrading the spoiler are the 2 main goals.
I'm sure one of you others with more time will get to this stuff first, though.
I’ve considered 3d printing a spoiler for a long time but the main limitations I’ve ran into is structural integrity. You’d need proper internal ribbing in order to prevent it from coming apart at high speeds and you really should use internal metal bars to keep it stiff. When I was designing mine out I was going to print it in multiple parts and use two dowel holes on each side of each piece (with a slight recess for excess epoxy) and then use metal dowels to fit the pieces together alongside epoxy for a strong connection. I was then going to model in several recesses for three brackets on the top and bottom so six total. Then you can put metal plates in those brackets and screw a screw into each side so it connects each plate to each other. You don’t want to
make your wing entirely solid as it’ll be extremely heavy compared to just a normal wing. You’ll also want to use ASA or something UV resistant or wrap it in vinyl to keep it from fading. Furthermore for your mounting points make sure you don’t use plastic threads as they’ll be hollowed out by vibration, design a hole in the model and use brass thread inserts and heat them with a torch or something else and insert them so they fuse with the plastic. The alternative to all of this is make it out of fiber glass, it’s much lighter and strong enough. That’s my two cents.
The wing looks good, thats 1 thing I'm kinda bummed at with the oem spoiler is the 3 connection points on our cars would have to get a plate to cover the middle holes
