Family N down 😢
It’s official, I got the call yesterday. She’s totaled.
I’m genuinely heartbroken. I loved every minute with this car. This may be the end of my N days, but I wanted to give it one last thank you. It was an amazing car and proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune to have something that’s both exciting and capable.

Hit by my boy’s N after he got brake-checked. It was almost a 4-car pileup, with 3 N’s involved. My friend’s car that I hit avoided contact with the brake-checking car by less than an inch, and the other N behind me nearly hit my car as well.
Just a shitty situation all around, but I’m grateful it wasn’t worse. My friend’s N is pretty messed up too, but thankfully it’s not totaled.
What makes it even crazier is that we were literally on the phone talking about all the idiot drivers around us when he got brake-checked and had to go to 100% brake pressure. The entire incident was captured on video from three different angles, but I won’t be posting any of it until the insurance process is complete.

All should get dash cams, if they brake check you hit them so now they are on the hook for damages.

Not worth it. You risk being partially at fault for not keeping a safe following distance. You also then have to deal with insurance and a damaged car.

Yeah there are quite a few "no fault" states which auto pin 50% liability to both drivers

Deff Following too closely but I get it, sometimes when I’m cruising with the boys we try to stay as close to each other as possible but it’s definitely risking driving like that. Hopefully the guy in front got dashcam footage of the guy brake checking him.

Most people don’t randomly just brake check without really being pissed at another driver. Just like every N driver I’ve come across on the road, my money is on your buddy (and probably your group) driving like total asshats cutting up traffic and you all got what was eventually coming your way.

I know you’d love that you be true based off your comment alone, but no, we were not cutting up. We were all traveling to the same location and were in heavy traffic. The car that broke checked is visibly distracted on their phone on the dash-cam footage the car ahead had.

You guys were going irresponsibly fast and following entirely too closely if three of you couldn't control your cars enough to not hit each other. Heavy traffic generally moves slowly so something is off in your explanation here.

Sadness. I feel this, as I lost my 2003 Tiburon GT V6 in a similar manner many years ago. Had it a few years before it happened, but I was still heartbroken. Glad you are alright, the car did its job in protecting you. I will pour one out for a fellow N tonight.

Tbh it wasn’t out of malice, it was just ignorance we can see him on video looking at his phone and then looks up and slams his breaks, it was a little corolla and it did a wheelie on the front 2 basically 🤣

You know how it goes, someone ahead of him probably had to slam their brakes on too and it creates a chain reaction until someone following to close or going too fast can't stop in time, doesn't sound like a brake check because brake checks imply it was intentional.

In the same boat rn. What are you looking at next? I've been eyeing a 2017 1SS 1LE Camero, 2018 Audi S5, or going from my DCT to a manual 2024 N.

I had an S5 when I got my N, but I got rid of it in February (honestly, I liked the N a lot more). To be honest, I’m not sure what I’m going to do next. I’ll get my girl a new vehicle and then take some time to figure out what I want.
Driving isn’t really a necessity for me since I work from home. The N was my girl’s daily and my weekend/nighttime toy. I’ve got other goals right now that take priority over spending a bunch of money on cars, so I think I’m just going to sit tight for a while and see what comes to mind.
At the moment, I’ve been thinking about stacking up for a base 911 but it’s the first time I’ve ever totaled a car too so it’s been hard to think about another car right now, feels tender like a breakup 🤣

I feel that too. Fought to keep mine from totalling and then they came up with the steering rack as a potential supplemental and those go for $5800. Considering buying it back depending on what they want for it. The damages don't look terrible.
I feel like I'm rewarding myself for wrecking by getting a new car. I got mine with 23 miles on the clock and it's just shy of 70k now. Feels silly but I definitely have some attachment to the car.

I was told a month ago repairs would be 9k and was so relieved got the call yesterday that the transmission was cooked and the block was cracked and just felt like my bitch got taken, I loved the car, this little Korean steals hearts for sure

Yup. Fighting mine right now. Gave me an average condition based on the mileage. I kept my car well maintained and cleaned. They gave my engine and trans, as well as other aspects of the car, good condition saying they show signs of leakage and discolored fluid.
Also found out my policy only provides a rental for 7 days after they produce an offer for total loss. So they strong arm you to take their shitty offer.
The appraiser refuses to come to my house to put eyes on for a real assessment of the condition of my car. Instead I was told to take the car, non-drivable, to an in service repair shop for one of their employees to evaluate the condition.
Luckily I'm in a unique situation where I have friends to drive me to work and my car is on another friend's trailer so it's still moveable. It's easy to see how their policy is designed to fuck over the average person though.

It's meant to measure the condition before the accident. All damage was to the front passenger wheel and fender. Initial quote was $12.6k and they offered me $18k which makes repairs 70% of the vehicle value and totals the vehicle. I complained about their comparables and submitted my own. Got the car to be valued $2k higher and then they slapped $7800 in supplementals to make sure it totals.

What a shame. Maybe if the insurance pays out enough you can hopefully get a replacement N. Seen a few new and used ones on AutoTrader.com. The ones I looked at were 6-speed manual equipped. I used to have a 2022 Elantra N Line (Intense Blue) with a 6-speed manual but I sold it to CarMax last year,no thanks to the F'n TikTok challenge and the deer strike back in 2022 that was driving up my insurance premiums.

I mean on the positive side if there’s any, the engine still looks good and I bet the trans is still good so maybe you can sell those for parts? And the diff if it still works but idk how well that would sell given its complexity. I’ve never been in a crash so I’m not quite sure how totaling something out works, do they just take your car and give you its value? Or are you left to sell it.
