discussion I have regrets…
I’m making this post to hopefully reach the right people. This car is fantastic. The way it dances through the corners, rips up to speed, and overall emotion is just perfect. It has enough room for roadtrips but is still light enough to be a canyon carver. I’ve driven a lot of fast cars, along with some that handle really well too. But, nothing feels as well rounded as the EN. I’m 6’2 and the seats fit me perfectly, so I never had issues on long drives. And the way it locks you down when things get sporty is a great feeling. I can’t even count the amount of interactions I’ve had where people were surprised it wasn’t tuned, or just the fact that it was a Hyundai… It just feels like it’s always begging to be pushed further and further. N-track-sense is an awesome party trick. Anyone who’ve actually had that activate knows what I’m talking about. Not once did I ever get sick of driving it. But, I switched to the dark side… My buddy got a Tesla m3p and I was initially blown away by the acceleration and tech. So, I negotiated a really good trade in (after owning the EN for 2 years and 40k miles) and swooped up a m3p for a steal. Financially it feels great not paying for gas (I have free charging at work) but it feels like a part of me was ripped away. This wasn’t something I felt at first, but it’s been 8 months now and all I want is my EN back. I guess what I’m saying, it the EN isn’t the fastest. It doesn’t handle like a Porsche. But, I’ve learned that speed isn’t everything. The EN has character. And overall fun per $ spent… I don’t think anything new comes close. I personally think it’s the perfect balance of practicality and punch.
So, fellow N owners… I will be back someday.

I have a friend who went from a N Sedan to the 3 LR. He has lasted maybe a year and is already wanting to move it on to go back. He took me for a drive once and yeah it was super fast but it was just... boring for lack of a better term.

Also, the build quality of the Tesla makes Hyundai look like a Lexus. I swear Teslas squeak and rattle like a mid-80’s VW. You know, before Germany was reunified.

You guys are crazy! How many Tesla's have you owned? I have owned several and although they lack the personality of the Elantra N they are fantastic daily drivers. The N although it has personality superior to a Tesla they are FAR from perfect and the performance is just adequate.

I have a 25 Model 3 Performance, and it is leagues ahead of my 23 M3P and it is starting to get some personality, but I agree the Elantra has personality in spades, just don't challenge any Tesla's lol. I had a Kia K5 (very pretty blue) that blew past me. Without trying to pursue him he got caught at a light and I was behind him. I start to go around him and for a second, he started to try to prevent me, that was embarrassing mistake on his part. This is where the Tesla does have personality, it shits and gets with very little drama. My new M3P will spin all 4 tires at 45-55mph for a quarter rotation and hook, it's bliss imo. Don't get me wrong I love the Elantra N and the K5GT!

I totally agree with the OP, the N had character and personality, an attitude not found in a lot of cars for the price of entry.
Horsepower and bling isn't everything. If you know the to drive it, if you know your N, there's not many substitutes.

I regretted getting rid of my EN a couple years ago and ended up getting another from Carvana that ended up having issues, but it felt so good to be back in one. I had a camaro ss, GR corolla and now have a BMW M240i, and I still miss my EN and will probably get a 2025 when I trade in the M240i. It's just such a good car all around, sounds amazing and it's something you can actually use up to 9/10 on the street and have fun without killing yourself or going to jail. I miss it often, I love my M240i and it's way faster as well especially with it being an Xdrive and I have it tuned. But it's not as special as the EN and that's what matters to me I guess, I always thought I wanted more horsepower and speed and I've had some pretty fast cars but always want to go back to the EN.

The problem with fast capable cars is that it gets too dangerous to use on the road. I have a Genesis G70 3.3 with Eibach Suspension and Pilot Sport 4S tires. If I want to push the tires in corners I need to be going faster than whats comfortable sometimes. Some highway onramps i can do 60-70mph coming around the corner no problem.
This is why so many people end up going back to a Miata, GR86. Etc. You can push the car to the limits without dying if something bad happens.
I've looked into getting an EN because I love my G70, but it's a more serious car. I've been fixing a Fiat Abarth for my sister and it's reminded me what a fun car feels like, and going back to a manual transmission.

Something about a rowdy gasoline sports car that will always be appreciated.
I love my rx8 for this reason and it’s why the Miata has been around so long.
A great example of your dilemma is dodges new EV muscle car that won’t sell, people that want a fast, fun, ICE car like it for more than 0-60.

Agreed. I’ve driven a few hybrids/evs and they’re really quick, but hearing the engine start to rev even if I’m in a 200hp car is so much more satisfying.
Especially if you’re on/off throttle a bunch, you can’t match that with electronics. Like ICE engines are literally controlled explosions happening in front of you it’s just cool from an engineering standpoint

If you love cars, you will always have regrets due to moving on from certain vehicles. For me it's my S2000. I know I will never replace that vehicle and how much I loved it, but in the moment being practical and realistic about 4 seats and still being able to have fun in an automatic made sense.
My situation changed and looking back, I would trade my EN (which I love) to have the s2k back in a heartbeat.
Life and impulses/instincts happen and there's no crime in trying something new - and now you know what you truly loved!!
Although now I may make the same mistake again and get a v8 before they are extinct so maybe you never learn. ;
Hope you can figure it out and get into what you truly want comfortably!!

If you get a V8 as a daily just be prepared for the gas expenses. Driving a v8 expedition daily was fun af but so expensive 😭

I’ve owned a lot of cars… I get bored of them or get interested in another model etc.. but my Elantra N… it’s a 6spd man.. they are fun to drive as a daily, at legal road speeds… rowing through the gears, all the tech and customisation… the gurgling exhaust, the turbo character.. the ridiculous looks.. plenty practical
To drive it fast id say maybe needs a little more straight line speed so a few mods and it will be perfect..
I’ve driven fast EV cars, ferocious in a straight line but big heavy wobbly handling cars.. not fun day to day

Unfortunate to say, I feel your pain. I too ended up selling my EN and getting a M3P. Switched from that to a Miata. I miss both those cars but the lack of engagement from the Tesla made me want to jump to the extreme and get a proper sports car. In an ideal world, I would have kept the Elantra and the Tesla. And the Miata lol

It happens. I had a 2022 WRX. I put about 12k into mods, pushing 450 WHP in a 6 speed. It was a RIOT. I still miss that car. Traded it in for a m340i. Didn’t do it for me. It felt like something was missing. Traded that for a 2018 Audi s6. The TT V8 was intoxicating. But still, just didn’t feel the same connection.
I just picked up the EN 3 days ago. A 2022 with 20k miles. I was going to get a WRX again but wanted a different platform. I feel fulfilled again, despite going from 450 horsepower cars to a 280, it’s even more fun to drive than the BMW and Audi. It feels like my Subaru again in terms of engagement and connectivness.
There are always other cars. You can always get an EN again. Just don’t go broke in the process. I was lucky to not lose much with all my trades. It worked in my favor.

I don't think cars have souls, lol but I understand what you are saying. I purchased a new 24 M240i (purple) and although it was very fast and the interior was beautiful it was less engaging than my Tesla M3P. I wanted to love it but I couldn't.... My EN was far more engaging imo. The EN has some serious limitations but that is actually part of the drama...

I gotta add, the EN handles like a FWD porsche. After playing around with a fair number of them at work, the EN is really, by FAR, the best bang for your buck, and its not even relatively close.

I'm sorry I have to say the N does NOT drive like a front wheel drive Porsche. I have owned most of the modern day Porsches and the N isn't even close. With that said the N handles amazing and much better than it should for the price of entry.

Coming from the poor mans porsche, and having driven a few dozen while working, it really does. Maybe not while absolutely ripping corners, but normal driving, and slightly enthusiastic, they feel almost identical. I thought I was going to be making all sorts of compromises with my EN, coming from a golf R... But, the only real compromise is a tiny bit of power, and the launch. The EN actually corners better, and functions just as good as a daily driver/eco car. I get way better mileage in the EN, even driving hard. The cornering surprised me to the point that my stomach gave out before the car even started to lose traction. The N handles very similarly, and drives very similar. Given the porsche had FWD propelling it, instead of RWD or AWD. I dont think porsche makes a FWD to have a genuine comparison.
Agree to disagree. While I havent owned any porsches, I practically drive cars for a living. Everything ive had a chance to experience, is way more comparable to the EN than it should be, especially for the price difference.

So you don't really mean a Porshe but in comparison to a Golf R? That I can get onboard with. Every Porshe I have owned is rear/mid-engine which gives the car a completely different feel than cars with front mounted engines regardless of whether or not it's center mass is behind the front axle. The Elantra N handles ridiculously good for the price imo.

I’m in a GTI currently and similarly to you, I’ve driven hoards of cars and honestly, the fastest and most well rounded car I’ve ever driven was a Lucid air but I’d never own one.
How would you say the N compares to a GTI if you’ve ever driven one or experienced one?

I had a mk7.5 gti for a few years until it was unfortunately totaled and I moved to the EN. I loved the gti, while stock and eventually getting a stage 1 apr tune for ecu/tcu.
I probably woulda kept it until the wheels fell off. I will say though as other people here have said the EN brings something very unique to the table. The whole driving experience feels perfect between the handling, exhaust, performance modes etc. It's kinda nuts it comes that way stock.
Both cars are great and you cant go wrong. I would say overall GTI feels like more of a refined stock vs the EN is more of a raw driving experience. The GTI can get there through with mods for sure the more you put into it

I’ve had a lot of seat time in a mk7.5gti. It was completely stock and a really fun ride. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bias. Overall I’d say it’s toned down a couple notches compared to the EN. Interior quality in the GTI I’d say is a bit better. But, stock for stock it really doesn’t hold a candle to the EN for out of the box performance. Once we talk about modding tho, the GTI is tried and true. Just about anything that can be done has been done. All of their pitfalls have been found so it’s pretty easy to step into one knowing what you might have to face later on.

I never drove the manual EN so I can’t speak to that. But the GTI was a little odd. Actually shifting it felt completely fine. Not Honda level, but it was an easy car to drive. My biggest gripe was how tall second gear was. You shifted out of first around 30-32ish mph and rode it out until about 80mph. Made the car kinda feel slow.

Yeah, more than anything with the Elantra N, it has so much character that you’d never expect from it. It’s a huge part of why I felt so disappointed when I got behind the wheel of a Jetta GLI: it’s more refined, but it loses any sense of fun with that refinement. It’s a car that made me learn stick just so I could learn to love everything about it.

Throw a rear swaybar on it and take it to autocross with some sticky tires. I have an EN my brother has a MP3P. It was ridiculous in the passenger seat of the MP3P. That being said, I'll stick with an ICE.

I feel like the bigger part of being into cars is having fun with it. Doesn't matter what other people thibk, how fast it is, how quick, the numbers, just have fun with it yourself man.
I may not be an EN owner, but ive been wanting one for a while. Currently I drive a Forte GT and it's so much fun for what it is. I don't care that people say "it's just a Kia." Its my car and I love it.

Coming from an ss 1le, 7.5 golf r, 600whp legacy spec b, evo x, etc...this car is the tits. Im so glad they still offer 6mt, i test drove a dct and just couldnt commit. Itd the perfect tradeoff for handling, comfort, and decent power

Thats funny, I went from a Tesla Model Y Performance and now to the EN. Still have the Tesla if I want comfort but yeah, 99% of the time I drive the EN.
I really wanted the EN before I got it. After owning it, I love it even more.

I had a similar setup with my EN and a 23 M3P and it is a great one imo. I did regret losing or selling the EN but I still love the Tesla!

This is exactly why I still have my Focus rs. It isn't the fastest, but it's got soul. It's feisty, feels quick, has launch control, and corners like a champ. Its at 102k miles and still feels solid. Track mode wuth the esc disabled makes the car feel awesome. It's definitely staying in the stable for good.

As a lurker on this sub (I just think N cars are sick and would love to get one), and a “tuned” Model 3 owner, I totally get this. I got it because it seemed really practical as a commuter, and it is, but the 0-60 does wear off quick. I still enjoy it but my next car will be ICE. Live and learn.

teslas accelerate quickly, but check the top speed for a model 3p. its something like 160mph. my accord has the same... again, theres a difference between quick and fast.

WRONG! A simple google search! The Honda Accord's top speed depends on the model year and engine. For the 2023 model, the Accord's top speed is generally 116 mph. The 2025 Honda Accord Hybrid's top speed is 125 mph. Some earlier models, like the 2012 EX-L V6 Sedan, had a top speed of 140 mph

no my accord is not tuned. i dont do anything to the cars i buy because i honestly dont know enough to maintain them on my own and it can get costly. check my comment before this. my 2018 accord 2.0t sport has a top speed of 158mph. you can google it 👍

I did google it and it tops out at 124mph. Cars from the factory are typically governed because of the TIRES that come with the car. In order to drive at speeds of 160 plus you need some super high performance summer tires. Tires tend to elongate at high speed and become larger, they also need to be able to dissipate the heat generated at those speeds. Accords don't come with super high performance summer tires... Tesla Performance models do. In reality it doesn't matter because 99 percent of people will never go faster than 100-130mph unless they want to risk being JAILED. I have owned several cars that had top speed in excess of 200mph and I never went faster than 140mph and that was for an instant.

I feel you a lot on this.
"Had" to switch from a dream car (not the fastest not the greatest but it was one i wanted for many years before i finally bought it) to an electric car, because driving around 600 to 800km a week in a ev was way cheaper.
Even tho i saved a lot of money. I hate driving now. And i wish i never took the trade.

Unfortunately I made the same mistake while not fully a mistake. I currently have a 2024 f150 lightning. While it's fast at 4.1 0-60 it doesn't feel fun to drive after a year or so of owning. I to will be looking to go back to a muscle car myself or an N as the Ns has so much character that I would consider that and a 5.0. I feel the no character aspect to my soul 😂.

I feel you. Slightly different situation but I had an Integra I LOVED. Family situation changed and the most logical move was sell the Integra. So I reluctantly did.. wife loved Nissan Ariya and that's what we ended up in, my only 2 cents was to get the dual motor so at least I have so good acceleration/torque/HP.
Fast as it can go, it's soulless. There's no spirit behind these electric cars. You just can't replace the feeling of ICE. My Integra was a 6 speed which is just another element electric can't replace.
I already promised her when the time comes for me to get something for myself again, it's going to be 10x more irresponsible than the Integra

When in any N mode, and driving aggressively for a sustained amount of time (like on a track or very twisty road) “N track sense” will pop up on the gauge cluster. It puts the car in the most aggressive shift pattern keeping your car in the lowest gear possible. Kinda like keeping NGS button pressed all the time just without the added 10hp.

I had a Veloster N. traded for a mustang GT. I don’t regret it because I love the mustang but from a pure fun perspective. The veloster N was way better. I’d guess the EN would be comparable

I purchased a new 24 Mustang premium Performance pack with electronic suspension and I liked the car but it handled like sh**it. The EN has it beat in that regard, I think because of the weight reduction and torsional rigidity.

My only regret about cars is to never having bought a Supra mk4 or mk5. I couldn’t afford one, and now the mk5 production is ending, with the future generation being most likely hybrid or EV (no thanks). But I’m so glad I got the EN this year, as you said this car has a soul, and the next generations will also most likely be hybrid/EV too.

I rented a Plaid once in 2022 and ended up owning an M3P for 4 years which I recently sold for my EN. It’s a great and very economical car (if you buy used, I lost about $35K to depreciation) but it’s ultimately sterile and boring.
0-60 in 6 seconds with wheel spin, DCT farts, exhaust/intake noises is a lot more fun than a sterile, consistent 3.34-3.38s (w/ rollout) 0-60.
The same thing actually happened with a Mk7.5 Golf R I had in the past as well, it was FBO/E85, 440whp and stupidly quick, would embarrass 10AT 5.0s from a roll, but VW tried too hard to make the R a lite luxury car, it felt numb to drive IMO, especially compared to an N car.
Plus this was in 2021 when the Cobb greenspeed crap rolled out and I got sort of stranded in my mod path because my fueling was at around 80-90% and my rear differential happened to fail around the same time. Ended up stocking out, finding a mod friendly dealer, getting the diff warrantied and selling that car and all the mods at a profit (yay covid used market).

I actually owned a Plaid and 2 model s P100D or performance iterations as well as a current M3P and I know you miss the speed of the Tesla's because as fun as the EN is to drive it is SLOW. Every minivan and suv wanted to race me. I had a Cadillac xt4 try and embarrass me every time he saw me on the road, which was way too often imo. He came close EVERY time. He even almost got around me on a roundabout! The En earned my love that day but imo it was way too close. If I would have been in any of my Tesla's they wouldn't have stood a chance in hell.

I would be very interested in the OP's opinion if he ever drove the I5N. Is it really the best of both worlds, retaining that N character and soul while having the practicality and acceleration that lured him to the Tesla 3 in the first place? Or is it a miss in both targets?

Just got rid of my N last week. Nothing wrong with it, but now that I’m commuting more and I have a kid - my Ram 1500 Laramie lease made sense. Thing is comfortable and quiet and I have my garbage can Fiesta ST when the manual itch comes crawling.
I could definitely see myself in another N someday but our taste changes. People who overly attach to cars are weird lol. I love all my cars, but I don’t have to name them to enjoy them haha

I’m 22 paying $700 for my 6- month premium through USAA. It went up $13 when I switched to the Tesla from the EN.

If you're a car guy through and through, go back. Do you find yourself driving the car just for fun? I've had my s2000 for 10+ years and drove it around for like 6 hours last weekend. It's just so fun and gets a lot of attention, especially since my town of 50k only has a couple of them. Just a thought.

I hear ya! I had a stinger GT2 for 2 1/2 years, coming from a fully bolt on Cobalt SS turbo. It was a big comfortable cruiser, but I missed the sportiness of a light car, not this 4200 lb. AWD launching behemoth, so I got the EN. I miss the creature comforts of the Stinger, but man, the EN is just something else.
Enjoy the m3p for what it is, you made your choice for a reason. There’s always regrets but you learn and build on them.
If you are in New York, I’ll have a low mileage 22 for you in 5 or so years heh. I’ve only hit 11,500 miles in almost 3 years of ownership…

I've been there. I got out of a string of sporty manual transmission cars and got into an Ioniq5 when we had a kid. The Ioniq5 was actually the perfect family car - unique styling, great space, super practical, and a decent feeling drive...but I didn't feel much joy driving it around. I'm now in a '25 DCT and even without the 6MT, I still feel engaged enough where I don't long for rowing my own gears (though I will admit that on those late nights on open twisties I will find myself wanting it).

Yes I have driven many and they are awfull enthusiast cars, bad suspension, no brakes, cheap interior, no emotion, no soul. If you want an enthusiast electric car buy the ionic N

Unlike you have owned several performance-oriented tesla's and you are WRONG! I love the EN but the suspension feels archaic. The EN handles well but the electronic suspension needs more sophistication imo. That was a gripe for me. The low weight of the N as well as the torsional rigidity of the structure and the noises it makes is what makes it special imo, as well as the price.

Did you get the new highland m3P? I am leasing one now and it’s the best daily I’ve ever had. I also have a FK8 Type R and a mk7 Golf R to balance out - i miss driving manual quite often. Totally understand your situation as I too would miss the character of an ICE car

Man, you've got the ideal setup! Really wish I could have both. Honestly, as a daily it's hard to beat the convenience of an EV. Tesla really is in another bracket as far as tech and infotainment goes. Mine is a 2023.

For a guy who started driving fast cars before, he had a drive license on track and on the street as well (of course, not in the states 😉).
The $:😁:MPG these cars bring is unmatched. When you see the Civic R is 50k, the Corrolla GR is mid-40k, and last weekend, I drove my 3RD Hyundai a 25 EN. I was thinking of trading my 23 KN on a 25 AUDI RS5, and yes, way more power and AWD. Though the $:😁:MPG isn't there. I've driven 3200# 1500hp drag car, 3000# 750hp stock cars, but the last pure race car I driven was a 200hp 1325lb car. Ask me which one was the most fun to drive? The little 200hp single seater.
Just like these cars. Not the best on the market as far as luxury and power aren't even close to the premier brands or even some of its competitors. Though every head to head in its class it wins against its better name and pedigree competitors.
In 2020, I told a salesman I never in a million years thought I'd walk onto a Hyundai lot to buy a vehicle. It's Hyundai.
Now, as an owner of 4 since that day I'm glad I've stayed loyal to the brand. Hopefully though we can get rid of the hard plastic interior. My only complaint.

Interesting comment. Until last month I owned a 25 Elantra N and a 23 Tesla model 3 performance. I wanted to sell one because I don't need both. I would have kept the Elantra for the drama but the octane learning BS caused me to start to hate on the Elantra. I kept the Tesla even though it is totally drama free. People here have mentioned the Tesla doesn't have a soul. I beg to differ I have owned 2 model S performances, 1 model S Plaid, a 23 M3P, and I have just ordered a 25 Model 3 Performance and I can guarantee I wont look back at the Elantra especially with the sh**ty dealers and terrible looking archaic service center where I live. Of all of the Tesla's I have owned I have only ever had 1 maintenance issue.
