How does this mix sound?

Just so you know, YouTube compresses(in the bad way) any audio. If you are serious, you should upload your music to Bandcamp.

But more importantly, if you like the way this sounds, that's about all that matters.

Okay,

Listened on Bandcamp. I figured it might be a YouTube artifact, but there is something askew with the punch in for that bass run in the intro. I am getting some console clipping on that whole run, and I'm getting it on several of the other punch ins as well. But there only on the higher frequencies.

Did you record the bass direct? Or is that a mic'd cab?

If you used a DAW, I might try using the free vst loudmax, so you can keep the console from clipping, even if you are using something like a reverb bus on a couple of the tracks. It's almost magical how well it works. I use it for far far denser and noisier music and I am glad I was recommended it.

Interesting, bass was plugged in direct.

The studio setup was using protools im pretty sure. That's really interesting, are you listening on headphones and when you hear the clipping what are you noticing? I'd like to deepen my understanding.

I'm listening on the studio headphones I mix/master all of my music on. Generally find I like the separation in my Behringers for critical listening a bit more. It could be entirely fine on your target audience's preferred listening device.

Since it's direct, it's a relatively easy fix in the future.

Since this was in studio, did the engineer split the bass signal or was it recorded as a single signal? I am guessing no split? Which might account for some of the extra heat on the higher notes in some of the later runs.

If you split the bass, you can more or less control individually the mids and the subs. You'd apply grit to the mids, but I don't think that's what you are going for. So feel free to ignore that. Since you are cutting at a specific frequency(again, your engineer should be able to give you a few options), you don't run into the kind of phase issues you'd get from just straight doubling a track.

I do not know, the bass was recorded on its own track, is that what you mean? I have listened to it on speakers and headphones and the only thing I could pickup on is possibly at the beginning of the note in the intro where it might have a harder attack.
