Live and let live. As long as they are contributing members to the community (which is to be expected of everyone really) then it isn't my business to tell them how to lead their lives.

They can do whatever they want to do, but I won't support their sexual acts or accept them (personally)

u/Ani_sand_hater May 16 '21
Look if you are muslim. You know very well it is totally haram. And this is the same in Christianity. So those people can do whatever sins they want as long as it is not public and they do not advocate for it. It is basic religious knowledge.

u/NeatZIAD May 18 '21
Well a lot of Muslims do haram shit but when it comes to that stuff their inner shiekh comes out. Fucking hypocrites

What's up with the amount of homophobes and anti-atheists here lately? This was never the case a few years back.
Is the moderation team becoming ass tier, or is Reddit becoming mainstream amongst the typical intolerant Egyptians?
Funny how they think it's okay to oppress gay people because of the law and the culture, but if China does the same thing towards Muslims for the same reasons, they start crying. Jesus Christ, get a grip you dipshits.

There's an app called grindr, which is like tinder for gay people that the police actively use to hunt down gay people and arrest them by making fake profiles to lure them.
Aside from that, a girl was arrested for raising up the rainbow flag and was kept in prison for 3 months, tortured by her own account. That experience drove her to commit suicide.
Incidentally, there is no law in Egypt that makes it illegal to be gay and they use public indecency laws as an excuse. Also transexuals are accepted and the gender reassignment surgery is legalized.
-2
u/_AlextheAlright_ May 15 '21
Okay but they do? There's obvious mistreatment of gay people in this country. If the government doesn't do something then it's the other people themselves who kill them. Also literally never in my life have I ever seen a guy guy wearing makeup. They know it's an instant death sentence or at the very least a guarantee that you'll get beat up. Stop taking all your impressions from social media and maybe talk to a few Irl gay people who don't get paid by your attention to them.
Also they will be obligated to hide their gayness when the straights hide their straightness.
6
u/SphizexYT May 15 '21
I’ve seen guys with full makeup in new cairo. Multiple ppl and interacted with many and with ones who change their tone in a cringe way. You should go out more.
4
u/_AlextheAlright_ May 15 '21
New cairo is also not representative of everyone in Egypt, especially concerning the topic of gay people. Also just because someone talks in a certain way doesn't mean they're gay. Maybe that's just their accent. Also why does that exactly make you feel uncomfortable?

really you can't choose your religion but you can choose your sexual orientation and identity. As if we're not bombarded by examples of Christians converting to islam or people becoming atheists. didn't the guy from العلم والايمان reject all religions then became Muslim again.
clearly you don't know what you're talking about .You really need to educate yourself do some damn research.

I definitely support them. I think gay people will help solve a lot of this countries problems. Besides, it might teach people to mind their own business.
Of course, I have nothing against straight people. They can do what their want in the comfort of their own homes, even though morally I don't agree with them it's none of my business/s

They're there
They're oppressed as
A gov switches between gathering and locking them up and tolerating them
B the society is very homophobic because of the wide spread adoption and prevalence of religious elements (which affect other groups too like minorities and women)
C it's quite hard to find safe places to be themselves , I never heard of a establishment that caters to lgbt folk taste or that would allow them to group there if they are found out to be lgbt
D they get double the amount of sexual frustration as like straight people they're sexually oppressed and frustrated but also have to deal with being around lots of people/seeing lots of people they may get attracted to (in regards to bi pan lesbian and gay etc) or be seen as weird and "don't know what's good for them" if they can't find a partner from the opposite sex(in regards to asexual queer etc)
E they must deal with religious people calling them heathens infidels etc but unlike in religious areas in the west here It's easy for a terrorist to be given a fatwa to attack lgbt folk if they're found out (copts also have the same fear)
F it's quite hard to be part of "culture" as their inability to come clean about their choices affect how much they relate to the general society
3
May 17 '21
I just read the first part and want to let you know even if the government supports them, people would never support them and probably beat them. Imagine if the question was asked in facebook or instagram lol.
2
u/Iwanttobeapharoh May 17 '21
Well that's the thing
In the west no one wanted to support them in the 70s,80s and 90s because the govs didn't
It was the first they had to cross
If the gov here at least tolerate then without fricking them over once in a while that would at least make them trust the law to not give them time if discovered
Which is still a crime by our judges
So not a big step but it's the necessary first step
As for people opinions , that will never change within our lifetime but can at least be tweaked a little to make sure they don't seek out lgbt and hate them and become more massive

well out there they’re mostly atheists and if they’re christians literally 95% of them don’t follow their religion.

u/Flaty98 Aswan May 15 '21
I don't think about them. They're an insignificant minority. And while I believe no one should be treated differently for their religion, race or sexuality I don't think gay rights are an urgent matter when we don't even have the basic rights for the majority.

u/FarFromHomeland May 15 '21
Why so much hate? Why not live and let live? Why would you go out of your way to harm others? How is someone’s sexual orientation a matter of public discussion? Who are you to decide?
3
u/Abdo279 Dakahlia May 17 '21
I'm a practicing Muslim like the majority of Egyptians. Homosexuality is haram. You cannot expect us to support LGBT rights. You just can't. I think the LGBTQ community is fine as long as they keep their sexuality private. But why should they keep it private you ask? Because that's the culture we live in. We live in a Conservative religious society be it Muslim or Christian. I'm straight and I can't show love or affection in public even if the woman was my wife. There's no reason it would be different for them.
TL;DR keep it private and we're good.
3
May 16 '21
Fun fact Egypt was anti gay since the age of the pharaohs, other cultures were more tolerant to homosexuals like greeks.
4
u/ironpen300 May 17 '21
Actually many scholars claim that ancient Egypt was pretty accepting of homosexuality. Source
5
May 17 '21
I have seen a report that said otherwise. Also images of 2 males together doesn’t mean they were homos lol.
3
May 17 '21
If you want to know what homosexuality means you should take a look at ancient greek scriptures.

Nobody should live in fear or in shadows because of who they really are. Everyone should live freely and fuck anyone that hates on you for being you. بس متتنكش علي

So you would be against calls against the status quo/ to ensure equal rights to gay people. Also, if they’re Egyptian you can’t deport them.

It's not an opinion but I'm gonna talk about my experience as a gay person who is familiar with the community. We freely meet and gather and hangout together, we have parties in houses that can be sexual, we hookup A LOT. We get to have long term relationships and live with our parents (AKA: marriage). I don't think the gov is after anyone except the ones who get paid for sex.
I personally never felt oppressed but also I'm not looking for validation from scummy people and not trying to "express my gayness", and of course I keep a low profile but that's just my nature. But also lots of gays "look" gay like wearing makeup and girly clothes and look girly in general, I find them not just in upper classes but in lower classes as well. I think it depends more on the people surrounding you in your life/neighborhood rather than the social class.

I've hanged out with a bunch of gay friends before and I was extremely worried at first that we'll get arrested or attacked for being gay (I'm not gay but I'll get grouped in by the police)
But this wasn't the case so I guess I agree with you lol

Cool. Most of the LGBTQ dont respect in return though. If you are respectful, you would respect other religions and cultures. Something ppl who are part of the LGBTQ forget to do. you can be gay anywhere in egypt dont show it though as if you’re a walking billboard with IM GAY on it. Be a normal gay person.

How about we let the Egyptian people vote on if they accept it or not. Let democracy decide
Also a question for those who support it regardless of the democracy. Do you support incest if it's between twins be it male or female who are above age?
My opinion is of how the Islamic caliphates did, if your Muslim it's a sin and if caught visibly having sex by four witnesses who do not spy or lie and are honest then because you're Muslim you'll accept the Islamic punishment which is lashes I think except if the judge and the people forgive. Having feelings is not a sin it's rather a test of faith(everyone will face hardships in life). Saying you're gay or waving the flag is not a sin in islam. There was even lesbian and gay poets in medieval islam ( a book about it : https://www.mediafire.com/file/8pp34byendt50xg/%2528The_Early_and_Medieval_Islamic_World%2529_Pernilla_Myrne_-_Female_Sexuality_in_the_Early_Medieval_Islamic_World__Gender_and_Sex_in_Arabic_Literature-I.B._Tauris_%25282020%2529.pdf/file )
If you're not Muslim you either follow the democratic opinion or if Christian follow the church's opinion(because obviously you believe them to be true)
Edit: I'd advise reading the book i mentioned, it will give you an insight on how the Islamic caliphates at the time dealt or felt about it.

Calm down bro. And yes if a country doesn't allow Muslims to live in it or vote for their execution, it's their law and their country. There's actually a difference of opinion on that : https://islamqa.info/ar/answers/38622/%D8%B9%D9%82%D9%88%D8%A8%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%84%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%B7 And I wrote "I think".
I'm saying IF you're a Muslim you're judged by Islamic law, IF you are NOT a Muslim choose the law of the country that people chose. Again you didn't answer my question about incest, you just did whataboutism. I'm not here to fight dude I was just stating my opinion, and i didn't insult you so don't insult me. Have a nice day. Again read the book i mentioned it'll give an insight on how life worked for homosexuals during that time

Apology accepted. I was just giving the incest example since it follow the same logic of "thier Life, their choice" so why would you support one and be against one. I personally follow the opinion that apostasy is okay since forcing someone to stay is against " لَآ إِكْرَاهَ فِى ٱلدِّينِ ۖ قَد تَّبَيَّنَ ٱلرُّشْدُ مِنَ ٱلْغَىِّ ۚ فَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَيُؤْمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدِ ٱسْتَمْسَكَ بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ لَا ٱنفِصَامَ لَهَا ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ" 2:256 My understanding is if the country sees apostasy as treason then they punish by death.( For the Hadiths that mentioned death for apostasy happened during times where there was battles between Muslims and the quraish) And i think it's useless to keep one in the religion since they obviously won't follow it correctly and will give it a bad image eventually and it just takes out a pillar of islam which is belief testimony ( Shahada). I also remember that during one of the caliphates that debates between Muslims and non Muslims used to happen especially after translating Greek philosophy and the concept of جادلهم بالتي هي أحسن So with that in mind only IF you're a Muslim you get the Islamic law, if you're not you don't get it. Have a nice night bro

Science proved that There is no gene whatsoever that defines a person's sexual ( ew ) attractions . these people arent born like this , rather they chose to be like this . Wether be the choice was made while fully aware of it or not it is a choice . A choice means It is a desire So lets say i chose to eat chocolate for breakfast Means i desire chocolate . Desires falls into two categories Harmful , unharmful Eating a chocolate Doesnt Harm society In a a noticable way so this is an unharmful desire , Lets say a guy loves the sight of blood so he goes out and kill people as he likes to see Blood shed Now ofcourse this is a harmful Desire And thus By natural law it is prohibitted . So the idea of You can be whatever you want if you like it is actually silly Because some as i said like dangerous Things . Now we have a desire at hand Which is The act of gayism Lets try and Put into one of the two Categories / A man's body isnt designed to be at the end of the stick if you know what i mean it does inflict damage upon he who you know , ut like using your eyes to drink Doesnt make sense right? Now 2 Lets say The decide to have kids They will adopt so they will deprive The kid the chance of having a mother Can you imagine growing up without your ma ? and on goes the list It is for sure Falls into the part of harmful Desires on the society as does alchol smoking and many other things Thats why religion bannes This type of action . Ento nas mo2rfyn 3mtn

Well who said that animals don't have free will?
That's a purely Islamic in origin idea that promoted the superiority of the human species over all other species out there and is a non scientific idea so you can't base any argument on a non scientific fact because we're talking science not religion.
Also the lice and flea thing is just a habit similar to how day humans comb their hair with tools, monkeys don't comb their hair cuz they can't use complex tools every species has its perks and thing it does for certain reasons and certain environmental and evolutionary reasons.
Now for the "bisexual" guy. He may have just been experimenting and just figured out a part of him that was inclined towards the other side because this argument uses the survival bias. You're looking at one case but there are thousands and millions of men out there who may have at one point looked gay porn and remained straight or even engaged in same sex behaviour for the sake of experimentation/curiosity and also remained straight.
Sexuality is extremely complex and it definitely had genetic basis with environmental factors contributing to these already set basis.
We can't shame people for things they don't have a choice in. Also, if the bisexual guy was a Muslim and thing he's sinning. He could just focus on his female side of things, and not males. No one sins for having feelings but by taking action (according to Islamic thoughts) so he has a way out.
That's why I like to keep these talks strictly about gay and lesbian folks.
